His parents supported his playing as long as it did not interfere with his education. He also took guitar lessons from Detroit guitarist Robert Gillespie who taught him classic blues and rock 'n' roll. They also accompanied him at the adult bars he would play during the evening.

His early musical influences came from the Monkees, Kiss, guitarists Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Yngwie Malmsteen, and country music.

John 5 married pornographic actress Aria Giovanni in 2002, but they divorced in 2006. He then married hair stylist Rita Aghajani on June 7, 2009. John 5 has three children: sons Jeremy and Andres, and daughter Nicole.

John 5 Career

Career

Lowery began his career as a session guitarist after arriving in Los Angeles from Michigan at the age 17. Alligator Soup was his first band in Los Angeles, resulting in a critical meeting with Rudy Sarzo from Whitesnake, who recruited Lowery for his band Sun King, giving him his first real glimpse of fame. He also met producer Bob Marlette, who has worked with, among other things, Tracy Chapman, Alice Cooper, Rob Halford, and Black Sabbath.

Lowery began working on various Marlette projects, including television show soundtracks, movie soundtracks, including Speed 2: Cruise Control, and commercials and infomercials. Lowery was selected to play with Lita Ford, opening the door for Kiss. He began a long time friendship with the various Kiss members, which culminated in him being featured on Stanley's Live to Win album.

Lowery's next work was working with Randy Castillo in the short-lived projects Bone Angels and Red Square Black, who released the Square EP via Zoo/BMG. When Lowery was chosen to play with k.d., the band disbanded. Long on tour.

Lowery heard that Marilyn Manson was looking for a guitarist and wanted to cold-call the studio Manson was working with to request an audition, but the guitarist role was already given to Zim Zum. Under the band name of 2wo, Lowery collaborated with then-former Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford, Sid Riggs (keyboards), and Ray Riendeau (bass) to produce an industrial metal-inspired album. Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), a guitarist, remixed the following album (Voyeurs) and was released on Reznor's Nothing Records label, under the parent company Interscope Records (Universal). The album was not a commercial success, but it did produce one video for the first single "I am a Pig," directed by Chi Chi Larue. It contained some S&M scenes and so was not widely distributed, but it was not banned as has been previously stated. The band began touring around the world and were on the Ozzfest website, but the tour was postponed and 2wo disbanded.

Well, John 5's first true "big break" came when he was chosen by former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth to play lead guitar on the critically acclaimed 1998 release of the DLR Band.

Lowery writes about how he came to meet Roth in Guitarist Magazine: "I was little, and I was dying to play with David Lee Roth." I was at my friend's house for a day, and... I wonder[ed] what Roth is doing now. [Rose Roth had just been pushed away from Van Halen for the second time in favour of Gary Cherone, and he had also written a tongue-in-cheek book in 1997.] I'm going to call up his manager and see if he needs any songs."

John 5 wrote on six tracks that he had written to Roth's leadership, one of which was published on the Roth's website. Lowery claimed that he knew exactly what Roth would like because he was a long-time fan of David Lee Roth's work, both in Van Halen and as a solo artist. Roth was awed after hearing Lowery's songs, and he subsequently asked for Lowery to perform several more songs. Roth was choosing between Lowery and Mike Hartman as the one to play lead guitar at the time. (Lowery will also perform bass on the album under the moniker, "B'urbon Bob"). In 2000, Hartman would die a little while afterward in Cystic Fibrosis.

Roth, who was captivated by John 5's ingenuity, called a meeting and later scheduled a recording session that lasted two weeks and culminated in the release of the fourteen track DLR Band album. "I remember before we started doing it in two takes, you can't do it."

David Lee Roth invited Marilyn Manson, Lowery (then called John 5) to write and record the single non-cover song for Roth's 2003 album Diamond Dave, while still lead guitarist for Marilyn Manson, Lowery (then called John 5) in 2003.

Marilyn Manson was searching for a guitarist to replace Zim Zum who had been barred from the band during the recording process. John went out for the band for the third time. Following Rob Halford's tour in Europe, John was contacted by Manson's manager, asking if he'd like to meet Manson for lunch. Manson invited John to join the band at the dinner. Lowery accepted Manson's name "John 5" and he was named "John 5". "right then and there," Lowery put it. It was evidently something he'd been dreaming about." 5 of them have booked on tour and will be working on the new album. Marilyn Manson's first live appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards was his first live appearance.

Manson was bouncing across the room as he struck Lowery's guitar and chest with his boot during the 2003 Rock Am Ring festival's opening bars. When screaming at Manson, Lowery was outraged and threw his guitar, sparking a lot of confusion. The Grotesk Burlesk tour had been a high-pressure mission, and just weeks before he had suffered the loss of very close family members, according to Lowery. Lowery continued to reflect on his conduct later, describing it as unethical and saying that there was no bad blood between Manson and him.

Lowery was also on Plague with Jason Lowetz as the frontman during this time. Bob Marlette's album was made in the studio, but never made it out of the studio. Before Scott Weiland took it on, Lowery was considered a frontman for Velvet Revolver.

Lowery and Manson parted company in 2004. Confusion ensued after certain media announced that he had been fired prematurely from the band, but in truth, the two men arrived at a mutual understanding that they did not want to go their separate ways. "We were just on different roads at the end of the tour," says the tour guide. It was completely amicable. He just wanted to write with other members of the band, but I wanted to do other stuff." Lowery, who worked with Manson, expressed resentment against him because he does not drink alcohol or smoke heroin, while Manson does not do drugs, but Manson "is not like that." Lowery, on the other hand, says Manson never told him specifically, and it's also unknown if or if Manson has ill will toward him.

Lowery formed the band Loser in 2005. They started working on their debut album Just Like You, recruiting vocalist Joe Grah, Charles Lee on bass, and Glendon Crain on drums. Bob Marlette, a friend and producer, co-founded the band partially. With the band Jibe, singer Joe Grah already had a lot of success in his home state of Texas. Grah was recommended to Lowery by Marlette, but Lowery and his friends hopped on a plane to Texas to see the band perform. Grah landed back to Los Angeles and was hired on the spot.

"I was from Grosse Pointe, Michigan, which is kind of an upper-class neighborhood, and I was always the cool kid," John said. "I started playing guitar at the age of 7.' I had a rock shirt on and I had a tattoo from the start, and I had that tattoo early on. Since everyone around me was wearing Polo and Brooks Brothers, I seemed to be a loser. However, if you're going to a Polo club, you're a loser. So I think everyone can relate to that name, and "Just Like You," the album's name, sums it up.

The band had their first success right after signing with Island Records, when the song "Disposable Sunshine" became a part of the Fantastic Four soundtrack.

Crain briefly left the band during the recording of the album and was replaced by drummer Elias Andra, a close friend of Lee's. Andra had some success with the band Psycho Plague, his own creation, an industrial metal band that toured with Linkin Park as a headline act at the time. However, Andra fled quickly after promotional shots were taken, and Crain returned. Andra went on to become Julien-K.'s drummer.

Lowery was also working for Rob Zombie and a work conflict ensued. Lowery, while Los Angeles was touring on conflicting dates, was still touring Zombie. However, with promo material for the debut album out and a release date in the bag, Island Records did not like the prospect of Loser without John, and so the band was not included on the label.

"I am the founding member of Loser, so leaving was not a straightforward decision," says John 5 in a press release. "I've been juggling two careers, Loser and Rob Zombie, for more than a year." I found it impossible to be in two places at once."

The album has been on hold for the longest time, and no word has been given regarding a release date has been given. (working on April 11, 2012) The official Loser Myspace page has tracks available for download (working on April 11, 2012). The album was never officially released, but promotional copies were sent to radio stations and music industry insiders, and it has since become a fan favorite.

While Lowery was in Los Angeles, he soon began to work with cult rock singer and film director Rob Zombie. Lowery and Zombie struck it off right away at the Camp Freddy benefit concert, and Robbie invited Lowery and Zombie to compete with him at Ozzfest 2005. "I'm completely ecstatic to be able to compete with Rob on Ozzfest!" For the longest time, he has been one of my favorite musicians. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to perform with him and never thought I'd be able to broadcast the stage with him performing the Zombie songs we all know and love.

Zombie was thought to leave the music business to concentrate on his film career before starting to work with Lowery.

"Camp Freddy begged me to perform one song at the Arrowhead Pond (in Anaheim, California) for this tsunami relief effort." And John was there, and we played one song, 'Thunderkiss,' and it kicked ass, and he's a supercool guy and I was like, 'this is great.' 'Do you need a guitar player for Ozzfest?' explains John. 'Yes,' I answered.' "I want to do it," he said, "Perfect, done."

-Rob Zombie on John 5

Lowery co-written eight out of eleven tracks with Zombie on Rob Zombie's 2006 album Educated Horses, co-writing eight out of eight tracks with Zombie. Lowery assumed the role of Rob Zombie guitarist as a permanent fixture after he left Loser. Rob is the best I have ever worked with. He's a natural performer. On stage, we have a blast. Hands down, it was the single best experience I have had dealing with someone." John is also a guitarist on Rob's latest albums, Hellbilly Deluxe 2, which were released on February 23, 2013. The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy was released on March 12, 2021.

Lowery was first introduced by Ginger Fish, a former Marleyn Manson bandmate, as a member of Rob Zombie's band in early 2011. Joey Jordison of Zombie/Slipknot appeared in Europe with his band Murderdolls, leaving Zombie without a drummer for a few shows on their tour's North American leg. Fish was sent by Lowery to fill in as the drummer. In April 2011, Fish was announced as the new and permanent drummer.

Lowery will be scoring the soundtrack for Rob Zombie's latest film, The Lords of Salem, in October 2011. Zombie revealed it on his Facebook page. On the official John 5 website, this was also confirmed.

In May 2021, it was announced that John 5 and Rob Zombie, Nikki Six, and Tommy Clufetos formed a supergroup named L.A. Rats are a rodent. "I've Been Everywhere" is their debut track from Liam Neeson's film The Ice Road.

Mick Mars will be retiring as a touring guitarist from Mötley Crüe due to continuing health problems. Aftershock in Sacramento, California, rumors had been circulating that John 5 would take over as Mars' replacement, particularly since John did not turn up for a Rob Zombie concert at Aftershock. Mötley Crüe said on October 27 that John 5 had taken his place.

Lowery has released eight instrumental albums since being launched in 2004 with Vertigo. Several famous guests appeared in his productions. For example, Songs for Sanity featured Albert Lee, while others featured Steve Valiant, Joe Satriani, and Jim Root. Remixploitation, John's 2009 release of a remix album. In addition, Lowery has produced The Devil Knows My Name (2007), an instructional DVD. John 5 announced on his Twitter page in July 2009 that he is now six tracks into his new solo album. He performed with Slash at a tribute to the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas on October 2, 2009.

"Just did all the guitar and bass for my latest solo album, Tommy Clufetos played the drums and killed it," John 5 had to share on Twitter. "Did the photo shoot for the new record today?" a tweeter said in a Twitter update on January 8. "Just had Billy sheehan perform on the [sic] song (ya dig)," says the artist.

MySpace account was defunct in June 2011. "There are a variety of reasons, chiefly the demise of Myspace as a way to reach you, the followers," John explained on his own website. ... So today, the steps were taken to close the account at Myspace."

E.g., he often referred to his songs after well-known murderers. (Gein with Envy, Songs for Sanity), Albert Fish ("Werewolf of Westeria") ("The Devil Knows My Name") or torture devices (see any song from Requiem).

"Careful with That Axe," his seventh solo album, which will be announced in August of this year, was announced in February 2014.

On March 3, 2017, John 5 released Season of the Witch, his eighth solo album. In early 2018, he released It's Alive, his first live album, and toured in the early and late months of 2018 in favor of it. On July 31, 2019, John 5 released his ninth solo album titled "Invasion." In early and late 2019, he was on the road in support of the "Invasion" album.

The Creatures opened for Queensrche from January to March 2020.

On October 29, 2021, John 5's tenth solo album Sinner was released.
