Career

Dommett is a student at the University of Rockhampton, Gloucestershire, and he attended The Castle School in Thornbury. He was a member of Psirus, a nu metal band that performed five shows as a youth. At the age of 19, he immigrated to London. Joel played minor characters such as Josh in Teenage Kicks (2008), Jonathon Hansel in Casualty (2004), and Dale in The Golden Hour (2005) before standup comedy.

His first stand-up gig was in a bar in Los Angeles, and he has since appeared in venues including Reykjavik, Gravesend, and The Netherlands. He received the Best Newcomer award in 2008 and was a finalist in the year's Stand Up Comedian of the Year.

He appeared in The Edge of Love as a train soldier who appeared briefly in a scene in 2008, and the film is a Second World War drama.

He was a co-host on Paul Foot's podcast from episode 1–20 in 2009. Dommett is a member of the National Youth Theatre.

Dommett appeared in all six episodes of Popatron, a sitcom made by Charlie Brooker's Zeppotron that debuted on BBC Two as part of its BBC Switch brand in 2010. Beginning in 2011, Dommett hosted Live in Chelsea, a live discussion show revolving around the events of the famous reality show Made in Chelsea. Dommett appeared in the first two Impractical Jokers UK series from 2012 to 2014 on BBC Three.

Dommett was a team captain on ITV2's comedy show Reality Bites in 2015. On Nicole Scherzinger's crew on the Sky 1 panel show Bring the Noise, he was also a regular panelist. Dommett appeared on a celebrity version of The Chase in November 2015. Joel appeared in the Fulwell 73 film White Island (based on Collin Butt's book A Bus Could Run You Over), where he played Dexter, a DJ who is detained for cocaine possession and Connor's attempts to find out who set Dexter up in Ibiza. The film received mixed feedback and didn't become a hit.

Dommett appeared in the sixteenth series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! She came in second place in second place, losing out to Gogglebox's Scarlett Moffatt.

It's Not Me, It's Them: Them is Not Me. Dommett's debut book of memoirs was released in 2018. The book reveals his intimate encounters with 40 women before his now wife, Hannah Cooper, and has the running argument that he is on his first date with her and recalls the women he had been in love with. Hannah asks Hannah whether she would like to marry him on the last page of the book.

I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp on ITV2. Dommett co-presented I'm a Celebrity from November 2017 to December 2019. In January 2020, the aftershow was cancelled due to it being too expensive to film.

Dommett began presenting Hey Tracey, a computer-generated "Tracey" and Emily Atack's reality dating show Singletown, both on ITV2. Singletown's second film during the COVID 19 pandemic ended, but it has not confirmed if Hey Tracey will have a third series.

Dommett was announced as the host of ITV's The Masked Singer, the UK version of the international music game show Masked Singer, on September 9, 2019. The Masked Dancer, Dommett's older sister performance, debuted in May 2021.

Dommett's Unapologetic Tour of the United Kingdom in 2020: (If This Is OK?) The stand-up comedy tour was postponed to 2021 to 2022, but no further restrictions were enforced. Only a few shows were held in February and early March before a national lockout was imposed; the show has the theme of Joel being newly married and his newfound primetime television presenting roles.

Dommett hosted the 2021 National Television Awards ceremony on September 9, 2021, marking David Walliams' appearance in 2020. He was on the long list for the best host but he didn't make it to the final shortlist, but he didn't make it to the final shortlist.
