Joseph Henry Hamilton Jr. (January 6, 1929 – June 9, 1991) was an American television producer and actor.
Personal life
Hamilton was the brother of television actress Kipp Hamilton.
Hamilton's first marriage (April 10, 1948 – 1963), to Gloria Hartley, gave eight children.
On May 4, 1963, he married Carol Burnett. They had three children, including Carrie Hamilton, before divorcing in 1984.
Sandy Troggio was married in 1991, but he died of cancer the following year.
He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Career
Hamilton began his career as a musician and composer with the Skylarks, and was the producer of The Garry Moore Exhibition in 1958, where actor Carol Burnett appeared on stage. He appeared on many early television shows, including Dinah Shore's with The Skylarks. He appeared in two episodes of The New Phil Silvers Show in 1964. He appeared on Burnett's short-lived CBS variety show The Entertainers and her long-running eponymous series The Carol Burnett Show as executive producer and composer of the show's theme song. Duke Reeves on Mama's Family made a brief appearance (albeit on a poster). He was Executive Producer of Mama's Family for the first 30 episodes on NBC (1982-1984), and later for the 100-episode syndicated version, which was produced independently for Lorimar Telepictures from 1986-1990. He appeared at The Tim Conway Show in 1980-81 before being Executive Producer. Despite Thelma "Mama" Harper's death in the TV film, he was Executive Producer of the Eunice TV film, which spawned Mama's Family.
Hamilton received five Emmy Awards, the first for the Garry Moore Exhibition, which featured Burnett.
"I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together," Hamilton performed Burnett's most popular theme song, which she performed to end her show each week.
