Jennifer Paige Scoggins (born September 3, 1973) is an American singer and songwriter.
She is best known for the 1998 pop sensation "Crush."
Early life
Jennifer Scoggins was born in Marietta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, on September 3, 1973. She is of English descent. Chance, her older brother, started singing at local coffeehouses and restaurants at the age of five.
Vivid Image, a top 40 covers act, traveled around the country and then moved to Los Angeles, where she landed an internship with Mountain Dew. She appeared in Atlanta, Georgia, in front of 50,000 spectators at the Olympic Games in 1996 with Joe's Band, a ten-piece covers band. Paige and producer Andy Goldmark teamed up this year. They began with a dance version of Aretha Franklin's masterpiece "Chain of Fools." The record grabbed the attention of German indie label Edel Records, whose president, Jonathan First, was looking for a fresh-faced pop act to establish overseas presence. He was so impressed by Paige's talent that he flew to Los Angeles and gave her a recording deal.
Career
Jennifer's career as a Billboard 100 pop artist began with her single, "Crush." Andy Goldmark, Mark Mueller, and Cosgrove & Clark's song appeared on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles in April, 1998 and went on to be the most-requested song on the radio station that summer. It eventually became a Top-three Billboard chart hit in the United States, lasted 17 weeks in Billboard's Top 10 and went to #1 in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
Jennifer Paige's debut album was released in August 1998 and featured guitar-driven mid-tempo songs like "Questions", "Befortween You and Me," and "Just to Have You." Critics took note of her voice, and Billboard magazine announced that "Paige succeeds in the virtually impossible challenge of oozing sensuality without resorting to traditional groans and moans; rather, she portrays the tone's emotion with her remarkably versatile vocal range. As a result, she brings a new sense of urgency to the song."
"Crush" was a hit, and two other songs, "Sober" and "Always You," followed them, and the former reached #6 on the Billboard Dance Chart, with both "Sober" and "Always You" following him.
Paige produced "Beautiful," a new song for the soundtrack of the film Autumn in New York in the summer of 2000.
Paige toured the world, performed at the Vatican (though Pope John Paul II was not present), and appeared at the World Music Awards. Positively Somewhere, her second album, was anchored by the single "These Days" and was released in the United States in September 2001. Due to poor timing and a lack of promotion by her American brand, it was not noticed until its European and Asian debut in the summer of 2002.
"Stranded," the European release of "Stranded" was a modest success. The single made a rapid impact on radio stations in Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Scandinavia. Especially Somewhere in Japan ranked in the top ten, and both singles became radio hits throughout Asia.
Edel introduced Flowers: The Jennifer Paige Hits Collection in 2003 as a result of her parting with her record label. Paige confessed that she no longer worked with either Hollywood Records or Edel Records in October of the same year. Paige continued writing for other musicians and compiling songs for a new studio project. Lifetime Television selected "The Calling" for their made-for-TV film, Augusta, Gone, based on the same book. Paige and co-writer/producer Chris Landon of Loudnoize Entertainment co-wrote the song.
In Ibiza, Spain, Paige began writing and recording her sequel to Positively Somewhere. Paige has been a member of the independent company Glor Music Production since 1997. The album, titled Best Kept Secret, was released in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on April 25, 2008. In March, the first single "Wasted" was released, and it was a hit in Italy. "Underestimated" became Paige's second single on the record, with a music video immediately following. "Ta Voix (The Calling)" was the third single from the album (duet with Lâm).
On November 20, 2009, the album was re-released as a deluxe edition, which included new songs such as "Beautiful Lie" with Nick Carter and DJ Kore sung in French, as well as a new version of "Crush" remixed by DJ Kore in French.
Paige revealed in 2010 that she and Coury Palermo formed "The Fury" as a team. On November 30, 2010, their first single "Silent Night" was released on iTunes, as well as their second Christmas album "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in 2011. The pair renamed their band name to Paige & Palermo in 2012, and their debut EP "STAY" was released digitally on June 4, 2013, followed by their second EP "GO," which was released in August.
