Makbule Hande Yener (born 12 January 1973), better known as Hande Yener on stage, is a Turkish singer.

She made her debut in the early 2000s and since then has become a popular figure in Turkish pop music with many of her songs that have risen to the top of the charts.

She is also known for her style of clothes and has re-invented her image numerous times over the years, in addition to her musical career.

She has made occasional improvements in her music style; for a while, she began making electronic music, but this was short-lived and she has since returned to performing pop music.

Both her professional and personal lives have been among columnists' most popular topics, and her rivalry, as well as a debate feud with Demet Akalin are chronicled in tabloids from time to time. Yener was born in Istanbul's Kadiköy.

After completing her middle school, she decided to go to a conservatory but after receiving abuse from her family, she enrolled in Erenköy Girls High School.

Because she was in the second grade and became married, she dropped out of the program.

She tried to reach Sezen Aksu, and while working as a shop assistant, she met Hülya Avsar, who later introduced her to Aksu.

She spent time as Aksu's backing vocalist before beginning with Altan etin, who assisted her in preparing her first studio album, Senden Ibaret, which was released in 2000.

Sen Yoluna... Ben Yoluma... (2002), MÜ-YAP certificated album Sen Yoluna... (2004), followed by Ask Kadin Ruhundan Anlamiyor (2004) and Apayri (2006).

These albums made her one of Turkey's most influential artists in the 2000s.

"Yalanin Batsin," "Sen Yoluna... Ben Yoluma"), "Kirmizi," "Askin Atesi," "Bodrum," "Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya," "Mor" and "Mor" are among her songs that have become hits, including "Yalanin Batsin," "Bodrum," "Bodrum," "Kirmizi," "About Himalaya," "Mor," "As" Yener has been influenced by a number of artists, including Madonna, to whom her image, clips, and performances were often compared.

She was one of the few artists in Turkey to have an album that brought over 1 million copies.

In 2013, she was the Turkish singer whose YouTube videos were watched the most.

She was established as a gay icon in Turkey by the 2000s and made some statements calling for the recognition of LGBT rights in Turkey, but she became the object of criticism after being uneasy about LGBT issues for the next decade.

She widened the scope of her work and worked as the operator of many night clubs in the second half of the decade.

Yener has received five Golden Butterfly Awards, as well as four Kral Turkey Music Awards, as well as other prestigious accolades and nominations.

Hande Yener Career

Life and career

Makbule Hande zyener was born in Kad, Istanbul, on January 12, 1973. She is the younger of Yldz Yazdyu's (1934 – 2012) two children, who are five years younger than her elder sister. Since her paternal grandmother died, Makbule was chosen as her first name. She had an economically modest family. Y'ldz was a housewife while her father, Erol, served as a professional football player for a while and later worked at Ford Otosan. Yener grew up in Erenköy, Kadköy, and she announced that she wanted to become a singer from an early age. She wanted to go to a conservatory after finishing middle school but her family notified her instead, who sent her to Erenköy Girls High School. She dropped out of the second grade after learning that "my citizenship teacher was obsessed with me, on top of that, I hated literature" and didn't attend the exam sessions. "My music grades were still tenacious." Her parents were divorced when she was 17 years old, and Yener later said that it caused her "great pains" after her father fell ill with alcoholism. In 1990 in Fatih, she married customs broker Uur Kulaçolu. Her son an was born in October this year and was born in the same year. Yener and her husband, Uhur, began to have differences on certain topics as she got older. In 1994, the couple married.

She began to work with music mentor Erdem Siyavuşgil, who said she had a chance to be a soloist during this period. Yener began taking singing lessons and made several attempts to connect with Sezen Aksu. She began working as a sales representative at the Mudo store in Suadye knowing that many artists would come by to the store and that in this way she could "reach Aksu through the celebrities" who would shop in the store. She later found Aksu's phone number and wrote down her emails every day, requesting her for a chance to be her backing vocalist, but no one responded. Many singers who came to the store, including Nilüfer, ehrazat, and Sertab Erener, expressed regret for contacting Aksu unanswered. Yener didn't feel confident about becoming a singer until she met Hülya Avşar, who promised her that she will make an appointment for her with Aksu. During the meeting, Yener met Aksu through Avşar's help and performed the songs "Yalnzl" and "Oyun Bitti" for Aksu. She began singing for Aksu's interest and spent two years as her backing vocalist and assistant. She made her television debut in Cem Yor's program Laf Laf Laf. Açyor, in December 1994. She left Aksu and spent several years in Turkey, and began serving in jails. She called Aksu again to begin the preparations for her first album. She signed a DMC contract on Aksu's recommendation.

Hande Yener's first studio album Senden baret was released by Ercan Saatçi and DMC on May 31, 2000. Thus, Yener became the first female vocalist introduced by DMC to the market. Altan etin's songs were written for a year, and the album's songs were written by him. "Neither Western nor Arabesque, just Turkish pop," Yener described the album's style. Several Turkish newspapers have started predicting the results of her friendship with Altan etin, a well-known songwriter who had previously worked with zel. In reaction to Yener's statement that she was different from zel, columnists predicted that she would "sit on zel's throne." Yener also made it clear that the album was supposed to be loaded with zel, but that was put on hold as a result of DMC's struggles. "Yalan Bats", Senden baret's lead single, was the first song for which a music video was released. In summer 2000, the album became a hit in Turkey and has also dominated the music charts. "I knew I'd do well," Yener himself was surprised with the result. But, I was really surprised and delighted with the rapid growth of everything." Yener's debut was lauded by Hürriyet, who named her as one of the year's best stars. Following the debut of a music video for "Yalan Batsn," separate clips for "Bunun Ad Ayrk" and "Yoksa Mani" were also released. When filming the music video for "Bunun Ad Ayrlk," Yener was put in risk of freezing. "Yalan Batsn"'s music video was named with the Best Newcomer award at the Golden Butterfly Awards in 2000, and Candan Erçetin's music video for "Elbette" was named with the Best Music Video award in the United States, and she and Candan Erçetin received the Best Newcomer award at the Golden Butterfly Awards. Yener received the Best Female Newcomer award at the awards ceremony hosted by Akademik Bakhr magazine and later in the 2001 Kral TV Music Awards. Promising Female Singer was selected by the Magazin Journalists Association for her Promising Female Singer. Yener was also included in the album Türk Marşlar, which was released by Gendarmerie General Command with Turkish pop singers and was announced at the end of 2000. On the album, she performed "Biz Atatürk Gençleriyiz." She featured new versions of the songs from her first studio album Senden baret on her first EP, Extra, which was released in 2001. In the meantime, she appeared in one of Show TV's show-time's series Dad's episodes.

Yener formed a friendship with basketball player Kemal Tunçeri in the early 2000s. She appeared in the Petit-Beurre commercials by Ülker. Yener revealed in February 2001 that she was working on a new album and her second studio album Sen Yoluna... Ben Yoluma... was released in July by Erol Köse Production. Michael Kuyucu praised the album by describing it as "a fantastic work by Yener, who returned to the same success," Milliyet's Naim Dilmener said on the album's debut as "has brought together the careers of all the top female Turkish pop singers in one place." Following the introduction of a music video for it, "Sen Yoluna... Ben Yoluma" became a hit, and the songs "ansn Bol Bolsun," "Evlilik Sandal," and "Küs" were turned into music videos as well. MÜ-YAP's platinum award for the album has sold more than a million copies and was given a platinum medal. Hande Yener received the Best Female Pop Artist award at the 2003 Kral TV Video Music Awards, and Sen. Yoluna... Ben Yoluma... was named as the Best-Selling Album. "Sen Yoluna, Ben Yoluma," the magazine journalists Association also selected "Sen Yoluna..." as the Year of the Year. Sen Yoluna... Ben Yoluma... ranked 81st on a list of Turkey's Best 100 Albums in 2017, which included Hungary's Best 100 Albums. Yener appeared in the commercials for Filli Boya in June 2002, and he also appeared on the TV show Pazar Keyfi in July. She appeared on Star TV from March to June 2003. She dated businessman Moris Kohen for a while in the same year.

Yener's third studio album was recorded in Hamburg and Istanbul, and Erol Köse Production's Aşk Kadr Anlam (Julyor) was released in July 2004. As a listener, Yener later said that she had become more professional while working on this album, and that "I listen to the songs while being played by guitar with all my heart and emotions." I'll give it a thumbs-up if I like it myself. Does it become a hit, how much money will it sell for?' I do not appear in my head. I'm not sure we're preparing this album for Hande Yener. This album was also built with the same enthusiasm, but more importantly, everyone brought their most valuable and valuable songs together. All of their songs were very popular, and they could be considered a classic in terms of quality. They just gave me the songs that matched with my taste. Music critics praised the album, and it was highly regarded and considered profitable. "Acele Etme," "Krmz"," and "Ac Veriyor" were all turned into music videos, with separate clips for "Arma "Hoşgeldiniz" and "Bu Yüzden" completing the hit songs. On many radio's music charts, "Acele Etme," "Krmz," and "Ac Veriyor" have landed as the top hits on many radio's music charts. Aşk Kadn Ruhundan Anlamsyor launched 400,000 copies in 2004 and received a gold medal from MÜ-YAP. The album received the Golden Album award at a dinner hosted by stanbul FM. Yener gave concerts in Rumelihisar from 20 to 21 August 2005, with the support of Italian dancer and director Luca Tommassini.

Yener's fourth studio album featured "songs that were in harmony with her voice." Erol Köse Production released the album, titled Apayr, in January 2006. Yener called the album an alternative pop album, and later spoke about her change in music style on this album: "Some people are made sad when doing something new," she said. But in my opinion, my job is a career that demands change. The sound effects of technology are also changing so quickly that it was imperative that I be part of this transition. I love every album that I've made, but it's not possible to grow by doing similar things again and again. The albums and clips that I've made so far have caused wonder at first, and then they've been acknowledged." According to some commentators, Yener's album was a turning point in her career, and she discovered European elements within her latest works, rather than simply a pop album, but also an album that features house, R&B, and rock songs as well. Some music commentators responded negatively to Yener's style change, while others found it to be beneficial. Tolga Akyet's Tolga Akyet said the album was based on the Western dance system. The songs from this album, "Kelepçe," "Aşkn Ateşi," and "Kim Bilebilir Aşk" were among the songs from which separate music videos were released, "Kelepçe." Apayrs history began in 2006 and received a gold medal from MÜ-YAP. At the 2007 PowerTürk Music Awards, Apayr was named Best Album Award. Aşk Kadn Ruhundan Anlam, and Apayr as the two best albums of Turkey in the 2000s, according to NTV. Yener unveiled another version of Apayr in the form of an EP titled Hande Maxi. At the 2007 Kral TV Video Music Awards, the song "Biraz zgürlük" from this EP was turned into a music video, earning the Best Music Video award.

Following the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, the TRT committee called producer Erol Köse, asking him to clarify whether he would like to see Yener represent Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, which he accepted. After a long time, TRT announced that no bid had been extended to anyone for the contest. In a press release, Yener's producer Erol Köse said in a press release that the singer had received a preliminary bid from TRT, but that they had not informed him of this. Following the previous events, Köse said they had then rejected the informal suggestion for Eurovision.

Nasl Delirdim, Yener's fifth studio album, was released in May 2007. He was tipped off and called out. Yener changed her music style to the experimental music on this album, and 72,000 copies were pre-ordered before its arrival. Some critical remarks were posted about her change from pop to electronic music. "To make everyone happy is so difficult, even impossible," she responded to the criticism by saying. It is not the right thing to do something that pleases everyone. First and foremost, you will need to please yourself and display your musical taste. It doesn't really interest to me to do something that is manufactured and consumed immediately." Gerçek Pop's music website gave the album 5 stars out of 5, while some commenters gave praise for the album. The song "Kibir (Yanmam Lazm)," written and performed by Sezen Aksu, was selected as the album's lead single, and a music video for it was released. Kadir Doulu's first music video was released for her song "Romeo," which was written for her then-boyfriend Kadir Doulu, and he also appeared in the music video. Both of these songs became hits and dominated Turkish music charts. Nasl Delirdim has the same story as the two previous albums. NTV selected one of Turkey's best albums in the 2000s as one of the best albums of the decade. The album was named as the Best Pop Album by a Female Artist on a Female Artist by Stenbul FM. Yener became engaged to Kadir Doulu in August 2007.

Yener became outraged with several other artists after she used the word "grocery music" and her name began to appear in court suits and lawsuits in 2007. Due to these arguments, Demet Akaln's feud began and their feud became a hot topic in tabloids for years. Yener responded in an interview with a retort, saying: "I do Western music, so I can't compete with those who make fantasy music." Demet's style is not like mine. "If she does not like me, why is she after my jobs?" Akaln continued the argument by saying. It's clear that she does all the jobs that I don't like or refuse to do for herself." Yener filed a lawsuit requesting $50,000 on the allegations that Akaln had insulted her and assaulted her verbally, but the court said they did not find any insult in Akaln's words. In a lawsuit against Yener, Akaln later secured 10,000 in the court. Serdar Ortaç spoke about other musicians, stating that he does not like "Neither Hande, nor Mustafa [Sandal]! Bengü is the best in the world. Yener replied, "I'm not making music only for commercial use, and I don't make a music that can't be understood." I don't want to be compared to those who make "grocery music." Akaln, Bengü, and Ortaç responded to Yener's description of grocery music to describe the songs she found to be of poor quality, including Akaln, Bengü, and Ortaç. "If the most popular songs are grocery music based on what she said," Bengü said, the songs that most likely fall in that category are definitely her own songs." Yener's reaction to his letter, the Istanbul Chamber of Groceries responded, but the singer said that her description was simply about music and that she did not intend to shame grocery stores. Ortaç ridiculed Yener's album "Romeo" at one of his shows, but Yener responded with, "Serdar must discover himself a Romeo." Ortaç also filed a lawsuit against Yener, alleging that her words implied that he was "gay-homosexual and stifled his personal integrity." He won the lawsuit and received 3,000 in compensation. "Hürriyet selected the word "grocery music" as one of the key words of 2007 and Srma Karasu from Habertürk characterized the grocery music controversy as one of Turkish pop music's most popular topics, and said: "If the local pop has been taken outside of its cliché, it is with no exaggeration to say that it occurred thanks to Yener's 2007 album Nasl Delirdim?" and a 'grocery music' polemic. ... Thanks to Yener's courage, many musicians and singers discovered how electronic music can be used in our domestic audience. In later years, Erol Köse confessed to including Bengü in the controversy in order to raise her profile and that he planned portions of the feud.

Yener released "1 Yerde" as Kemal Doulu's first single in early 2008, as well as in its music video. Nasl Delirdim's last music video was then released. "Yalan Olmasn" is a song that was on sale in the United States. She also hosted an episode of Show TV's program Pazar Keyfi. Erol Köse Production released Hipnoz, her sixth studio album. It's currently in stock of 40,000 copies. TPA (Turkish Pop Alternative) Production was established together with Kadir Doulu during the same period. All of the songs in Hipnoz were written by Yener herself. Music critics responded with both praise and critical feedback to the album, including one who said that the singer had migrated away from pop music on this album. The album's "Hipnoz" debuted in ranked 10th on Billboard Türkiye's Top 20. Following the song's music video's debut, RTÜK announced that it had been barred from being broadcast. Yener made it clear that the news were not accurate and that the video had not been barred from radio and television, referring to the situation as a conspiracy against herself. However, the harm had already been done, and some broadcasters refused to air the music video. A RTÜK paper later announced that no broadcast ban had been applied to the clip. Yener had to cancel her work as a result of events before and after this crisis. She ended the album deal with the company by receiving compensation, causing more controversy, so she left Erol Köse Production in a contentious manner.

Yener signed a new album deal with Avrupa Müzik on November 1, 2008. Hayrola's seventh studio album on record in March 2009. The article was released. She wrote seven songs on her own, changed her style of writing, and performed the songs with a more natural tone. On the album "Arsz," Teoman appeared. Music analysts characterized the album as an electronic music album of high quality and more popular than Hipnoz, but claimed that it didn't have a song that might be as popular as "Romeo." According to MÜ-YAP, the album sold 37,000 copies by June 2009. "Hayrola?" the album's lead single, as well as "Hayrola?" "We were ranked third on Turkey's Official Music Charts and its music video, and Kemal Doulu directed it." Yener and Avrupa Müzik were having problems after the album's second music video was deleted. Yener sent an alert to the corporation that the second clip of the album could not be removed and unilaterally terminated the deal. Avrupa Müzik pleaded guilty of causing material loss and $50,000 for inflicting moral harm, causing moral harm. The court decided to pay Yener 20,000 from the firm together with interest as a result of the case. Yener revealed in late 2009 that she had been diagnosed with swine flu and had already written a song to put it away after her death, but later announced that she was getting better. She appeared on NTV's special show and performed the song "Sorma Ne Haldeyim" with Müslüm Gürges.

Hande Yener's announcement in the Turkish press at the end of 2009 that she would make pop music again caused a stir in Turkey's press and prompted critics to question the decision. Sadi Tirak from Hürriyet attributed her return to pop despite the fact that she was unable to make a breakthrough with her new style. It was later revealed in the news that the reason she had put electronic music aside was due to the decreasing number of her concerts and album sales. On the other hand, Yener said that these allegations were brought forward by the designers in an attempt to punish her for trying a different style. She cited the rise of pop music as a result of her enthusiasm for new advances, but she had no desire to make an electronic album anymore. Though the preparations were being carried out, user after users began insulting her stylist Kemal Doulu, which caused Doulu's request that it be terminated immediately. "Sopa," Vatan's lead single, was revealed later that day. Yener ended her friendship with her fiancé Kadir Doulu, who had been dating since 2006. Hande'ye Neler Oluyor, she said, was her eighth studio album, which she said she had made for "both listening and playing in the clubs." According to the poll results, there is a lot of polls on what is the best way to do it. Sinan Akçl wrote all of the songs on the album. Yener did not entirely return to her old style on the album, according to music critics, and they had both positive and negative reactions to it. Yener appeared on Okan Bayülgen's program Medya Kral in May 2010, but stayed on TV while it was still on air. "She couldn't make herself sing," she later explained. The album's first year was sold out of 100,000 copies, and two of its songs, "Sopa" and "Bodrum," became hits. "Sopa" came in fourth on Turkey's Official Music Chart, while "Bodrum" took top spot, while "Bodrum" climbed to number one. Both the songs "Sopa" and "Yasak Aşk" were released in a combined form on the album's first music video. Following the introduction of this music video, the songs "Bodrum" and ""öp" were turned into music videos. The Best Lyrics, Song, and Composition award was given to "Bodrum" by thestanbul FM. At the 2011 Kral Music Awards, "öp" was nominated for the Best Composition award. The remix album Hande'ye Neler Oluyor was released in September 2010, which featured a remixed version of some of the songs found in Hande'ye Neler Oluyor. And the new song, "Uzayl" has been released. On Turkey's Official Music Chart, "Uzayl" ranked third. Yener made a guest appearance in the Star TV series Geniş Aile's New Year episode in December.

Yener appeared on two of Sinan Akçl's songs, "Atma" and "Söndürümüzstanbul," in April 2011. "Bana Anlat" was her first performance at the 38th Golden Butterfly Awards in June 2011. The song was actually part of Poll Production's ninth studio album Teşekkürler, which was released in September 2011. She was unveiled as a nutshell in her 11th year of work, and she said the album's style was mainly pop. Teşekkürler's debut in her earlier ventures was a result of Yener's experimentation with her style in her earlier projects. Sinan Akçl's songs on the album were written and composed. Teşekkürler divided the minds of critics into two parts, some of whom characterized it as far-fetched and others as a result of how Yener had finally emerged as a writer with a singular and distinct style. The songs from this album were "Bana Anlat," "Unutulmuyor," "Teşekkürler," "Havaalan," "Dön Bana," and "Dön Bana." Sinan Akçl was also included on the album "Teşekkürler." According to MÜ-YAP, the album sold 59,000 copies in the year it was first introduced.

Yener's music critics chastised the singer, who claimed that she should continue doing good work, as opposed to those found in her previous albums. "Hasta," the album's lead single, debuted second on Turkey's Official Music Charts and was the first song from the album to be featured in a music video. Kraliçe received the Best Album award at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Academy Awards, as well as the Album of the Year award at the Magazine Awards, with 79,000 copies sold. She continued her musical career by releasing "Kşşşşş," inspired by a scene in the film Sosyete (1985), and did a duet with Serdar Ortaç on the song "ki Deli." "Ki Deli" was named by Naim Dilmener of Hungary as "Hande Yener's worst song up to now." Despite this, the album debuted third on Turkey's music charts.

In January 2017, Yener appeared at the Ülker Sports Arena during the 2017 Turkey Basketball League All-Star finals halftime. In the upcoming month, she took over the VIP Room in Arnavutköy. Hepsi Hit Vol. Vol., her thirteenth studio album, released in June. 2, was also opened in eşme, and she also opened the entertainment venue Neo. "Bak Art", the album's lead single, climbed to number two on Turkey's music charts. The songs "Benden Sonra" and "Vay" were also turned into music videos after the release of a music video for "Bak-caz Artk." Music critics reiterated the same complaint made against the album's predecessor's record; however, they generally applauded the musician's relationship with Mete zgencil. Yener was the Turkish artist with the most number of plays on radios and whose music videos were the most aired on music channels at the end of 2017. Seren Serengil doubted the report's accuracy, while Yener posted a topless photo of Serengil on her social media pages and made sarcastic remarks about her. The parties went back to court, but a few months later they decided to reconcile, and the lawsuits were dismissed.

Yener was featured on Aylin Coşkun's album "Manzara," which debuted on the music charts and its music video was produced by Yener herself. On Yldz Tilbe's tribute album Yldzlark, she also performed the song "Kş Güneşi" on Yldz Tilbe's tribute album Yld larklar. Yener's deep house album "Beni Sev," which ranked second on Turkey's charts, was followed by her first English song "Love Always Wins" in the second half of the year. Critics loved "Beni Sev" and it was dubbed one of the year's best songs. The song "Love Always Wins" is the same as the Love Wins slogan used in 2015 to highlight homosexual rights in the United States, and it brings Yener's links with the LGBT movement back to the forefront, though in the process, the singer remained silent on LGBT issues for a long time. Hande Yener was the female artist with the most streams in Turkey in 2018 with 154 separate works, according to Telifmeter. Yener and fellow singer Demet Akaln reconciled after an 11-year feud that made them the object of many tabloid news.

Yener continued her career by releasing four singles in 2019. Each of these songs had distinctive styles and were considered part of Yener's attempts to reclaim her image in the music industry's emergence process. She released the single "Aşk Tohumu" in February. She appeared on Australian singer Faydee's song "Gravity" on the same day as "Aşk Tohumu." Music critics applauded "Aşk Tohumu"'s electronic infrastructure, which was praised for bringing back memories of Yener's heyday of experimental music from a decade ago. In May and July respectively, Yener's other singles "Kuş," written by Altan etin, and "Krema," written by Mete zgencil, were released. Though the song "Kuş" was regarded as more commercial-oriented work than "Beni Sev" and "Aşk Tohumu," it received less critical feedback. The song's music video was shot in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The song "Krema" was discovered to be a more suitable alternative and was received mixed feedback. In addition, Turkish rap music became more mainstream in 2019 and Turkish pop music and its artists attempted to adapt to this new situation, among whom was also Yener. Yener appeared in the TRT 1 series Kalk Gidelim's special episode at the end of the year in addition to her musical appearances.

Yener's fourteenth studio album Carpe Diem was released in 2020 to commemorate her 20th anniversary of her professional music career. Berksan, Devrim Karaolu, Mete zgencil, Fikri Karayel, and Misha were among the singers and songwriters on this album who performed with Yener, including Berksan, Devrim Karaolu, Fikri Karayel and Misha. "Pencere" and "Bela," two of which were never included in the collection, were released throughout 2020. The album was eventually released on October 2nd, 2020, despite being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yener revealed in an interview in July 2021 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer a year earlier and discussed her subsequent treatment and recovery.
