Bop Shop: Songs From Vagabon, Miley Cyrus, Monsta X, And More

www.mtv.com, January 13, 2023
It's been a long hunt for the ever-elusive "bop" in the search. Playlists and streaming-service recommendations can only do so much. They often leave a lingering question: Are these songs really good, or are they just new? The MTV News staff has curated a hand-picked collection of songs from the MTV News staff. This week's collection isn't limited by age, genre, and can include anything — it's a snapshot of what's on our minds and what sounds good. With the latest music, we'll keep it fresh, but we'll still get a few oldies (but goodies) every once in a while. Get set: The Bop Shop is now open for business.

Ethel Cain, who was born in a bubble, is still mourned for her art

www.mtv.com, May 12, 2022
By Danielle Chelosky Listening to Ethel Cain's songs can be both immediate and painful, as if you were struck with a revelation or watching a huge hurricane roll in. There's a sense that nothing will be the same afterward. Hayden Silas Anhedönia — the eccentric artist who lends a country's twang and a vivacious, emo-rap edge to the indie-pop project — has a knack for weaving ephemeral moments of awe into large sensory experiences. Preacher's Daughter, which is also her debut full-length, isn't described as anything other than her opus. It's as cinematic and visceral as a horror film. Anhendönia compares to Thelma & Louise because it has an "all-American tale vibe with some fables and proverbs along the way," she says about Zoom a month before it was released.
