He is best known for his appearances in the television series Confession Couple (2018), My Mister (2018), Come and Hug Me (2018), Kill It (2019).

Life and career

Jang Ki-yong was born in Ulsan, South Korea, on August 7, 1992. Jang, along with his parents and older brother, lived in Ulsan. Jang had a keen eye on fashion and photography as a child. Jang debating future college and skills obtained over the years during his third year at Ulsan High School. He noticed a runway video from a fashion show starring Lee Soo-hyuk on the internet, which piqued his curiosity. His passion for magazines and pictorials grew, and he eventually wanted to be a model.

Despite his aspirations for fashion and modelling, he was preparing for the college entrance exam during the second semester of high school. They were initially dismissive and disapproved of his career choice after announcing his dream career to his parents. He persuaded them to let him follow his dream, which they later vowed to do well: "If you really love it and can do well," the father said.

Jang went to Seoul to fulfill his childhood dream. He often fantasized about the booming city and marveling the King Sejeong bronze statue in Gwanghwamun right before his own eyes. Following passing the college entrance exam, Jang began studying at Yong In University in Seoul's musical acting department. Jang, 19 years old, visited KPlus (now YGKPlus), a South Korean modelling company, in the hopes of joining their team. However, he was not immediately chosen. A year later, he returned a year later and was given the opportunity to take a pictorial. Jang was hired as the company's newest recruit following training's acceptance.

Jang began modelling at 20 years old at the 2012 S/S General Idea Collection Exhibition during Seoul Fashion Week in 2012. Modelling gradually improved his timid and introverted image from childhood, according to Jang. Despite recalling his first year as stifled, Kolon and Caruso's appearances in fashion shows at the time included Kolon and Caruso, and runway show credits include Loriet () and Unbounded Avenue (). He was also selected as one of twelve promising rookie models by the Korea Model Association. In 2013, his appearance in IU's music films "The Red Shoes" and "Friday" brought him worldwide recognition. At the 2014 Asian Model Award ceremony in January 2014, he went on to win the Fashion Model Award.

Jang was given the opportunity to appear with label-mate Lee Sung-kyung without the need of an audition by the director of It's Okay, That's Love (2014). Despite having no lines and being dubbed the "One Second Cameo," his role ignited a buzz in South Korea. Jang auditioned for The Greatest Marriage (2014) later this year, and being more conscious about acting. Though many other actors qualified for the role, Jang was chosen because he matched the job and the school's image in comparison to the others. In the drama Schoolgirl Detectives (2014), he was also cast.

Jang's acting career spanned his participation in television series This is My Love (2015), Beautiful Mind (2016), and The Liar and His Lover (2017), alongside web-dramas We Broke Up (2015) and Love for a Thousand More (2016), which were both co-productions of YG Entertainment and starred Kang Seung-yoon. Since being named as a contestant in the second installment of Tribe of Hip Hop, he challenged himself with hip hop in 2016. Despite his occupation as a model, T.O.P. of Big Bang's "Doom Dada" attracted attention due to its fast-paced pace and flow, but its execution was lauded. Jang was a finalist in the top tenths.

He rose to fame as a Confession Couple (2017) as Jang Na-ra's college senior. Since being accepted so many offers to appear in commercials and television shows, Jang cites the drama as a turning point in his acting career. When people in their 40s and 50s approached him and acknowledged him, he felt the effects more. By media outlets in South Korea, Jang was dubbed "Most Popular Actors Born in 1992" and "Rising Super Rookies." He received several casting calls for various dramas, including My Mister (2018), after it had aired. Jang also starred in My Mister for its producer and writers as well as the plot. Since it aired, Jang's role as a cold-hearted loan shark came to a new audience. At the 6th APAN Star Awards and nominations at The Seoul Awards, his success earned him the Best New Actor Award, his first as an actor.

Jang played Benjamin in his first leading role in the melodrama Come and Hug Me in 2018. He plays a detective with a complicated friendship with his childhood friend. At the Baeksang Arts Awards, his participation in the drama earned him the Best New Actor award in television.

Jang was in OCN's action drama Kill It In 2019, she was playing a doctor by day and a heartless killer at night. He appeared in the romance drama In the same year, he appeared as a CEO and a genius composer. WWW also published a paper in the United States. In the crime action film Bad Guys, based on the OCN drama of the same name, which premiered in September 2019, Jang made his big screen debut.

Jang appeared in the mystery romance drama Born Again in 2020, alongside Lee Soo-hyuk and Jin Se-yeon.

Jang appeared in the Netflix original romantic comedy film Sweet & Sour alongside Chae Soo-bin and Krystal Jung in 2021. Jang appeared in My Roommate Is a Gumiho, the first iQi original production drama starring Lee Hye-ri, Kang Han-na, Kim Do-wan, and Bae In-hyuk. Jang's last project before his compulsory enlistment was the SBS television series Now, We Are Breaking Up With Song Hye-kyo, Choi Hee-seo, and Kim Joo-hun, all of which was pre-filmed before his departure in August and slated in November.

During Jang's first musical appearance at a military service, Jang performed in the Korean republic's musical Blue Helmet: Meissa's Song, which was Jang's first musical appearance during the military service.
