Career
Hill's YouTube channel, which became known for its celebrity makeup tutorials, was born in 2011. "Get Ready with Me & Kim Kardashian," Kim Kardashian West's reality mogul shot a video in July 2017 with the title "Get Ready With Me & Kim Kardashian," which has since become one of Hill's most viewed videos.
Hill co-created with Australian cosmetics company BECCA to introduce "Champagne Pop" as a highlighter in 2015. Sephora, a beauty chain, sold more than 25,000 units of "Champagne Pop" within 20 minutes of its launch, smashing sales records. In 2017, Estée Lauder bought BECCA for $200 million.
Hill also worked with Morphe Cosmetics in 2015, resulting in a palette with her favorite Morphe eye shadows. Morphe unveiled a limited-edition, gem-encrusted makeup brush set in 2016, as well as a second eye shadow palette under the brand name "Jaclyn Hill x Morphe" in 2017. Following their availability, all three items sold out quickly. Hill's vault collection with Morphe was unveiled in June 2018. In her vault video, she said these were the shades she didn't select for her Morphe X Jaclyn Hill palette. There are four palettes with ten pans in the vault. They also sold out shortly after being announced.
Hill's EMV sales were reported to have sold $10.7 million and $12.2 million, respectively, as a result of his BECCA and Morphe collaborations.
Hill unveiled a YouTube video on May 23, 2019 announcing the launch of her namesake brand, Jaclyn Cosmetics, which included previews and swatches of the 20 nude "So Rich Lipstick" shades, which would be available within the week. This news was initially met with mostly positive reactions from long-time followers, but there were some criticisms of her definition of a flawless nude shade, photographs that revealed some anomalies with pigment, and a lack of critiques from others in the beauty industry. 20 nude lipsticks were launched on May 30, 2019, and despite the minor controversies, the product sold out within the first day and seemed to be well-reced. Customers immediately noticed flaws in their orders and said that their lipstick had either been melted or broken after a single use. Although some defended the brand by claiming that hot temperatures and shipping conditions were to blame, many others defended their concerns on social media. Photos of various flaws in the product were shared, including air bubbles, gritty texture, hair, and mold. Hill was quick to deny allegations by stating that she had not heard no one complain and that using the lipstick in conjunction with other lip glosses was the source of decreased quality. However, she encouraged consumers to call her and her staff if they were dissatisfied in any way, promising to either compensate the customer or replace the product.
Reports of allergic reactions to the drug have surfaced in more severe cases of dissatisfaction. Several signs that had been reported were related, but not limited to itching, redness, and cold sores, were present in the study. A petition was started calling for the lipsticks to be returned, but Hill did not respond. Hill addressed the growing fear on June 12, 2019 by posting a video titled "My Lipsticks" in which she discusses the potential causes of harm and reminds viewers that she will honor those who express dissatisfaction with her team.
Fans and the YouTube community were not happy with Hill's apology and her explanations, so the backlash grew. On July 3, Hill took down her Instagram and Twitter accounts, leaving only her YouTube channel open to the public.
Hill relaunched her cosmetic line in 2021 with a Valentine's Day mystery series that was sold in four separate sets each priced with different price points. Hill's bronze and Blush duo and her Beaming Light loose highlighters were released on March 2, both in bronze and Blush. Hill introduced the Luxe Legacy Collection on April 24, 2022, a gift from her mother, Robin, to her. According to Hill, there will be many more upcoming Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics drops on her Instagram account.
