Desmond Daniel Amofah (born May 12, 1990 – c.?June 19, 2019), better known as Etika, an American YouTuber, streamer, and model.

He was best known for his over-the-top reactions to Nintendo Direct's presentations. After several months of being physically ill and suicidal, Amofah suffered with signs of mental disorder, as well as threatening suicide on several occasions, he vanished on June 19, 2019.

The body of Amofah was discovered in the East River by the New York City Police Department on June 24, after it was reported that he jumped from the Manhattan Bridge.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined on June 26 that Amofah's death was caused by drowning, and that the cause was suicide.

Early life

Desmond Daniel Amofah was born in Brooklyn, New York, to father Owuraku Amofah, a Ghanai politician and advocate, and Haitian mother Sabrina Amofah. Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana's great uncle, has been president since January 7, 2017. Amofah's older brother, Randy Amofah (August 14, 1982 – October 31, 2010), died of asthma attacks. Cardinal Valery, his half-brother, has a YouTube account dubbed "IAM9INE."

Amofah attended Shell Bank Junior High School for one year and was kicked out of the school by his mother after Amofah became involved in several fights with other students. Amofah said in a livestream on 2018 that his craziest confrontation took place at Shell Bank, in which he and another student engaged in a fierce fight over a girl. They became best friends after.

Amofah graduated from Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice (SLJ), a small law-themed college preparatory public high school. Amofah produced many DVDs in a series called "SLJ FAM" while he was attending the academy. He was also a member of the Free Food Mafia club. Etika Career

Career

Amofah was involved in modeling and rapping before he began posting Written in Ice, his own creation, published in 2007 under the pseudonym "Iceman." Amofah appeared in two Grind Time Now rap battles in 2008.

Amofah started modeling in 2011 and continued into 2015, with the aim of extending into 2015. He had a website Model Mayhem, where he said he was "quite tall" and that his last measurement of height was "six foot, six inches."

Amofah said in a tweet that the pseudonym "Etika" appeared in the 2003 video game Sonic Battle, as he was a fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog series in his youth. Players could enter a cheat code named "EkiTa," and when Amofah was 12, he simply switched the T and the K to create his username because he "liked that result better." Since playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, he had a mediocre fade.

Amofah, who had previously used "TR1Iceman" on YouTube, has since launched a new YouTube account in 2012 to broadcast his gaming and reaction streams under his original name "EWNetwork." Originally intended for the channel's content to be produced collaboratively by a variety of users, including Amofah himself, but such plans never materialized. He had more than 800,000 followers on his YouTube and Twitch channels before the death of his main channel on YouTube in 2018, and less than a month after launching "EtikaFRFX" on YouTube, he had more than 130,000 followers.

The Amofah's material was normally Nintendo-focused. He often streamed reactions, many over-the-top, to Nintendo Direct presentations, which often included screaming and slumping out of his chair in elated surprise, as well as tossing objects in his room about. In a Super Smash Bros. 4, one of Amofah's most popular reactions was his reaction to Mewtwo's emergence as a warrior, when Amofah yells "Mewtwo!" Several times. The video was Amofah's most watched video on his "EWnetwork" channel, and the reaction of the game's creator, Masahiro Sakurai, was retweeted by the commentator. Amofah's last Smash Bros. reaction was his reaction to the unveiling of Banjo & Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. The ultimate disappeared 8 days before his disappearance. At the Super Smash Con's 2018 and 2019 iterations, he received the "Best Reaction" award.

After the Nintendo Switch controllers were released as the Joy-Con, Amofah began to say his followers the "JOYCONBOYZ" and would often end his videos with his signature phrase, "Please have yourself a damn good one." Despite focusing on Nintendo-related games, Amofah conducted playthroughs of indie games (e.g., Undertale, Deltarune, and Doki Doki Literature Club). . (He's also played on the Minecraft anarchy server 2b2t.) Amofah was also a fan of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and he appeared on several livestreams of him enjoying episodes of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency while offering commentary.

After making scallops, Amofah's channel name was changed to "Young Ramsay" in 2015, being inspired by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay himself followed Amofah on Twitter shortly afterward. After ending the stream, Amofah's livestream of him browsing the deep web and receiving an unexpected phone call on his personal phone number, which made Amofah feel ill and didn't want to go back to the deep web again. Amofah hosted a Christmas livestream on December 24, 2018, featuring him dressed as Santa Claus.

Fans of Amofah's where he ostensibly had a Nintendo Switch console before its 2017 debut gained fame and were scrutinized by followers. The Amofah's model was later revealed to be 3D-printed by fellow YouTuber "Sandqvist" at his request.

Amofah confessed to many "chargebacks," or "fake donations" of large sums of money sent to his PayPal account through stream donations in June 2017, which would threaten Amofah with hundreds of dollars in processing fees.

Amofah was temporarily banned from Twitter for using the word "n-word in a tweet on October 23, 2018. He responded to the suspension by posting a video of himself frequently quoting the word and defending himself for using it. The word had been transformed by black people "from a tool of hate to a model of love," Amofah said, and should no longer be used as a racial insult. Amofah named rappers Travis Scott and Drake, who use the word in their songs, on the video. Amofah uploaded pornography to his YouTube channel "EWNetwork" (then titled Etika), which went against YouTube's policies and eventually resulted in the channel's demise. In April 2019, his second channel "EtikaFRFX" was cancelled for the same reason. He was also barred from Twitch for using a homophobic word during a stream. Amofah posted cryptic messages on social media following the demise of his "EWNetwork" channel, including the words "it's my turn to die" and a snapshot of his defunct account. Several of his followers believed the messages and tweets were suicidal in character, which caused a panic in his family. Amofah took to social media on Friday to announce his well-being and that others on streamers admitted to being able to see him in person. He later apologised for his subpoena on EtikaRedditNetwork. Amofah announced on his Twitch channel on October 29, 2018 that he purposefully deleted his channel due to the fact that he did not receive ad sales from the channel.

Amofah shared several tweets about sadly ending his life on April 16, 2019, the first one mentioning "Savonarola!" following the cancellation of his second channel "EtikaFRFX."

I'm going to kill myself!

You must have already had it. You all, stupid humans, should be ashamed. He then posted a tweet claiming to kill himself by shooting himself in the head. This tweet culminated in his arrest and hospitalization. Christine Cardona, who had worked with Amofah from 2011 to 2017, reported her health and that she had been "observing him all day." Amofah released a photoshopped snapshot of himself holding a rifle, which Cardona later revealed to be fake.

After posting a large number of mysterious messages, including homophobic and ethnic slurs (that were later deleted), he blocked close friends of his and other YouTubers on April 29, who were quickly blocked. After a concerned fan alerted police about his disturbingly erratic appearance during a livestream, he live-streamed himself being arrested by police to over 19,000 viewers on Instagram Live later that day. Amofah yelled terms and excerpts from his apartment window, including "The movement will not be broadcast, not felt." Amofah's word and quote included the phrase "The revolution will not be televised, not felt," he wrote on Twitter several times. Amofah conducted "hi" on his YouTube channel "TR1Iceman," during which he performed songs from the Playboi Carti album Die Lit for a few minutes without saying anything.

Amofah was interviewed by Keemstar on his YouTube channel "DramaAlert" on April 30, where Amofah said he was the "antichrist" and he wanted to "purge all life." Amofah was detained again later this week for assaulting a police officer. Amofah performed "Stupid Monkey," a livestream video on Monday where he ate a carton of raw eggs and made several monkey noises without saying a single word.

Amofah's erratic behavior around this period prompted some of his followers to take the events leading up to his suicide as a humorous spectacle rather than signs of him struggling with his mental health. People who attended the video where Amofah assaulted a police officer were on the internet had a chuckle. The majority of Amofah's livestreams in 2019 were spammed clown emojis.
