Isaac Slade Life

Isaac Edward Slade (born May 26, 1981) is an American singer and guitarist, principal songwriter, pianist, and co-founder of the Colorado-based rock band The Fray.

Early life

Slade was born in Boulder, Colorado, and grew with his family in the Denver metropolitan area, which included both parents—who were missionaries from the same church—and two younger brothers, Caleb and Micah. He also lived in Guatemala due to his parents' occupation, where he attended Interamerican School in Quetzaltenango's capital. The Slade family is of both English and Slovak descent. He attended Faith Christian Academy in Arvada, Colorado, and later enrolled in University of Colorado, Denver, as a music and entertainment industry researcher. He obtained his Bachelor of Music.

Slade began singing when he was 8 years old and took the piano at 11 years old, after temporarily losing his voice. He wrote his first song when he was 16 and learned to play guitar when he was in high school.

Isaac Slade Career

Career

Slade and his future band-mates Dave Welsh and Ben Wysocki formed Ember, a band made up of Slade and his future bandmates Dave Welsh and Ben Wysocki. Soon after, the band disbanded, and later in the spring of 2002, Slade ran into former schoolmate and vocalist/guitarist Joe King in a record store. The two began writing songs as a result of regular jam sessions. Caleb, Slade's younger brother, was added on bass, and Zach Johnson on drums later.

Slade and King were recalled by Dave Welsh and Ben Wysocki to form the Fray. They soon released Movement EP, and they soon revealed Reason EP to some local interest, especially by Denver's Westword alternative newsweek. Despite these reviews, the band had a difficult time announcing a single. Before the band decided to submit "Cable Car," KTCL, a Denver radio station, refused eight of their songs. The song appeared on a KTCL radio show highlighting local bands, and the radio station received a significant number of calls for it shortly after. "Over My Head (Cable Car)" was the band's name, and by the time of 2005, it had become KTCL's most popular song of the year.

Slade revealed on Instagram that he had left the Fray with his last concert with the band, which was held at Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Illinois, on May 14, 2022.
