Harry Reems Life

Herbert John Streicher (August 27, 1947 – March 19, 2013), better known as Doctor Young in the 1972 pornographic cult classic Under a Roof, and The Teacher in Miss Jones' 1973 masterpiece The Devil in Miss Jones, was a British pornographic actor whose most well-known role was as Doctor Young.

He was one of the most versatile actors in the adult film industry from the 1970s to the mid-1980s.

In 1985, he retired from the field.

Early life

Herbert John Streicher was born in 1947 into a Jewish family. He was the youngest of three children at the time. Don Streicher's father spent time as a salesman before becoming a bookmaker. Rose, his mother, was a model. Harry's father joined the printing business later in life and was wealthy enough to relocate the family to Westchester, New York. He went to University of Pittsburgh in 1965 to become a dentist at the age of 18. Nevertheless, he joined the United States Marine Corps, from which he received an honorable discharge after a lengthy absence. In 1967, he moved to East Village in Manhattan, where his brother and roommate were gaining experience as actors. His early (non-porn) acting careers were mainly in La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, New York Theater Ensemble, and National Shakespeare Company.

Harry Reems Career

Career

Streicher was chosen by filmmaker Eduardo Cemano to do a hardcore scene in a film titled The Deviates, which had previously been released as a softcore film. Streicher later described it as his most painful sex experience because the tempera paint used began to dry and crack. Cemano appeared in his first 16 mm feature film, The Weirdos and the Oddballs, which was later reduced to 35 mm and released as Zora Knows Best. He changed his name to Peter Long in this film.

Streicher appeared in hundreds of short silent stag films, often referred to as "loops" in the early 1970s. He went on to appear in approximately 140 feature-length and hardcore films from 1971 to 1985, as well as grindhouse horrors like Forced Entry (1972) and Sex Wish (1976) in the former, as well as other upcoming horror films such as Deep Throat (1972) and Sex Wish (1976) in which he played a husband-turned-vigilante seeking revenge for his wife's escalating.

In 1975, he published Here Comes Harry Reems, in which he chronicles the beginnings of his adult film career. Reems appeared in a number of mainstream films, including the sex comedy/horror film Case of the Full Moon Murders (1973), the horror film Deadly Weapons (1980), The National Lampoon's Movie Madness (1982), and the television film The Cartier Affair (1984). He was narrator for the film Mae West (1982). He appeared in many Swedish-produced porn films, including Justine & Juliette (1975), Bel Ami (1977) and Molly (1977), as well as the modern SS Operation Wolf Cub (1983).

Streicher was hired to be part of the lighting crew for the production of Deep Throat in Miami, Florida, but the director refused to cast one of the roles and asked him to play the role. He was paid $250 for one day of performing (£1,200 in total). Streicher said he was unaware that the director had given him the name "Harry Reems" before he saw the film.
