Giovanni Simeone Career

Club career

Simeone joined the club in November 2011 after rising through the youth ranks. Simeone was called up by the main squad for the pre-season in July 2013; Simeone made his league debut on August 4th, playing the full 90 minutes against Gimnasia La Plata. He renewed his deal later this month, signing before 2016. Simeone scored his first professional goal on September 8th, scoring his second goal in a 3–0 home win over Tigre.

Simeone joined Banfield, Argentine Primera División, on a season-long loan agreement on July 6, 2015. He scored the match-winning goal on his debut against Quilmes on July 12, 2015, defeating Quilmes 1–0.

Simeone, a French footballer, signed for Genoa, Italy, on August 18th. In a 1-1 draw with Pescara on September 25, he scored his first goal, making it his first game for the club. Simeone netted a brace in Genoa's 3-1 victory over Serie A champion Juventus on November 27.

Giovanni joined Fiorentina on August 16th, amid rumors that Atlético Madrid was keen on a young player to be mentored by his father Diego Simeone. In Fiorentina's 3–0 league victory over Napoli on April 29, 2018, Simeone scored his first hat-trick.

Simeone joined Cagliari on a year-long loan agreement with Fiorentina, which also included an obligatory purchase clause at the end of the loan term. He made his debut against Inter Milan on September 1st in a 2–1 loss. Simeone's first goal came against Parma on September 15, a 3–1 victory. He scored in four straight games after returning from the COVID-19 lockdown; he finished the season with 12 goals overall.

Simeone scored a brace against Torino in a 3–2 victory, extending his streak to 2020 with six goals.

Simeone joined Hellas Verona on a season-long loan contract with the option to make the deal permanent on August 26, 2021. In a 4–1 victory over Lazio on October 24, he scored all four goals. It was his second hat-trick in Serie A, and both of them came against Maurizio Sarri's teams. Simeone scored two goals against Juventus for the second time in his career, as Verona defeated 2–1.

He joined Hellas Verona on a long-term contract, which will finish in 2026.

Simeone joined Napoli on a season-long loan with the option to buy on August 18th, 2022. He scored a goal on his debut in Champions League, a 4–1 victory over Liverpool, in which he celebrated his goal by bursting into tears and kissing a tattoo of the Champions League logo that he acquired at the age of 13.

International career

Simeone is both Argentine and Spanish nationality, but he represents Argentina internationally. Simeone, who captained Argentina at under the age of 20, finished as the top scorer at the 2015 South American Youth Football Championship, assisting Argentina in winning its fifth championship in the tournament.

Simeone scored on his senior international debut in a 3–0 friendly victory over Guatemala in Los Angeles on September 8. In November 2018, he was part of a team that defeated Mexico in the friendly Adidas Cup against Mexico.
