Giorgia Todrani, best known as Giorgia (born 26 April 1971) is an Italian female singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and radio host. Known for her soulful voice, which is aided by a wide vocal range, high belting register and great vocal abilities.

She is one of the most iconic and famous Italian singers.

She has released ten studio albums, which all enjoyed good commercial success in Italy.

Giorgia has become fairly well known throughout Europe as an ambassador for Italian pop music, and has also achieved moderate success in Canada and Latin America. For her voice's qualities she has been compared to Whitney Houston and Mina, and has been defined "fourth-best voice in the world".

Billboard magazine called her "one of the most popular Italian singers" and stated that "she could have made it (a great success) in the USA too".Giorgia holds the first place among the artists Italian women of her generation for number of weeks in the Fimi-Nielsen chart, and she has sold over 7 million records worldwide, with 12 top-ten albums of which 5 number-one on the Italian album chart, and 24 top-ten singles of which 5 number-one hits on the Italian singles chart.

She has participated three times at the Sanremo Music Festival, in 1995, in 1996 and in 2001, resulting at the first, third and second place respectively.

At the Sanremo Music Festival 1995, she has won 4 prizes in the same night (Festival First Awards, Radio/TV Awards, Authors Awards and "Mia Martini" Awards). In her career Giorgia has won 8 Italian and Wind Music Awards, a David di Donatello, a Nastro d'argento and a "Premio Lunezia".

Personal life

Giorgia was engaged from 1997 to 2001 to the singer Alex Baroni, who died in 2002 in a car accident.

The past 21 June (2009) Giorgia was involved in the relevant concert "Amiche per l'Abruzzo" organized by Laura Pausini at the San Siro Stadium in Milan for the people hit by the earthquake in Abruzzo. She had duets with Elisa, Laura Pausini and other of the greatest Italian female singers. The DVD of this concert is available in Italy.

In the winter of 2009, Giorgia confirmed rumors that she and her fiancé, singer/songwriter and dancer Emanuel Lo, were expecting their first child. On 18 February 2010, during the third night of the Sanremo Music Festival, it was announced that Giorgia had given birth to a baby boy, Samuel.

In the category Nuove Proposte (New Acts), she sang "E poi" on the stage of the 1994 San Antonio Music Festival for her debut (New Acts). She gained 7th position in the final New Act chart at that festival (losing to Andrea Bocelli who praised her in his winning speech). E poi is still one of her most popular songs.

Giorgia's debut-album (it was a best seller in Italy but it also had a good success in Germany)). Luciano Pavarotti begged for her participation in a duet at the annual Pavarotti & Friends show in Modena, Italy, where she gave a performance of Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever. She has also performed with the renowned tenor. Giorgia received the European Prize in 1994 as "the best Young Italian artist."

In 1995, she performed "Come sapi" at the San Francisco Music Festival for the first time. She received the competition and the critics' award as well, becoming the second artist to achieve that (the first being Domenico Modugno), but she was the first Italian female singer to win both awards. She received four awards during the competition. Come Thelma & Louise's second album, which has more than 300,000 copies, has been sold. Todrani recorded the song "Vivo per lei" with tenor Andrea Bocelli in the same year.

"Strano il mio destino," she performed for the third time at the San Francisco Music Festival in 1996 and ended in third place. Strano il mio destinationo – Live & Studio 95/96 is the name of her third album, which featured live tracks, the San San Juanmo single, and another studio recording. The album has been out of print for 270,000 copies.

With a new music sound oriented and a new photograph, she began a new dimension on her career, less ballads and faster uptempos, focusing more on the tone and in the interpretation than in the vocals, something that would be a prerogative in subsequent releases. This album was released in ten European countries that are enjoying strong commercial success. Giorgia was invited by the same year as a television show "MTV Europe," but she turned down the bid.

In early 1999, she released "Girasole," a cover of an Italian song by Gino Paoli, and "Girasole," a hit single that helped her get more success, as well as one of the top-selling Italian songs of the middle of 1999. Herbie Hancock, a jazz legend, appeared internationally this year.

After she told her that her father named her Giorgia in honor of the song, Ray Charles invited her to one of his shows and asked her to perform "Georgia on My Mind." Giorgia made "Girasole" by herself; thanks to this album (one of her career's most popular) she became more popular. During her appearance and in his Milan debut, she sang a duet with Michael McDonald. She performed a duet with Lionel Richie in the middle of 2000, during her Fai Sentire La Voce Tour 2000 tour at the Ericsson Summer Festival. 2000 was also the year of her appearance at the Primo Maggio festival, which included a reworking of Prince's Nothing compares to you (2 U).

With the song "Di Sole e d'Azzurro," written by Zucchero and included in her 5th studio album "Senza Ali," Herbie Hancock appears as the special guest on the "Il mare sconosciuto" track in 2001, she returned to San Francisco, finishing in second place. Giorgia had already appeared with Hancock during his European tour dedicated to George Gershwin (1999), and she and Youssou N'Dour in 2000 attended a concert at the Royal Festival Hall of London.

Le cose non-vanno mai come credi, Le cose non-vanno mai come credi, was her first Best of album collection, which sold over 700,000 copies and remained in the Italian charts for over a year. The album spawned some Italian hits and was also in the Italian charts in 2008. Ex-Boyzone Ronan Keating's duet brought the year to an end. We've Got Tonight, a Bob Seger cover, was released across Europe, and Keating's duet was released throughout Europe.

In 2003, she released Ladra di Vento, her 6th studio album, which also included her most popular song, Gocce di Memoria. With 130,000 copies sold, the album debuted on the Italian FIMI singles chart and became the country's best-selling single of 2003. The song debuted at number 40 on the European singles chart, putting it at the top of the European singles charts. "Gocce di Memoria" was the original theme song from Turkish-Italian film maker Ferzan Ozpetek's film "La Finestra di fronte" Facing Windows starring Giovanna Mezzogiorno, and Giorgia received many awards, including the "David di donatello," the "Silver ribbon" and three "Italian music awards."

Giorgia was the first Italian artist to record an MTV Unplugged video in Milan in 2005. All of her major hits are represented on the live CD, as well as acoustic versions. The album has been named triple platinum in Italy and has received numerous accolades from Giorgia. She was aided by Prince Terence Blanchard's bandmates, and she competed with Soulstar Ricky Fanté at the festival.

Stonata was her 7th studio album released in 2007. The album debuted in second position on the Italian chart and was rated double platinum. Mina, an Italian singer, appeared in a duet on the album. Poche Parole was the first duet for Mina in her fifty-year career, with an Italian female.

Giorgia's second best hits compilation (the first one was released in 2002) on November 21, but this will be her first "Anthology" album, which is the soundtrack to Luca Lucini's "Solo un padre" film, which will land in Italian screens on November 28th.

Giorgia's 8th studio album, Dietro le apparenze, debuted in 2011: Il mio giorno migliore (platinum, with more than 30,000 copies). In addition, the album featured a duet with Eros Ramazzotti, one of the most popular Italian singers, as well as other collaborations: Passerà che conta, written by Busbee; and Tu mi porti sua (single certified double platinum with more than 60.000 copies). The album Dietro le apparenze debuted at first place on the Italian charts and was awarded double platinum.

Giorgia's ninth studio album, Senza paura, was released in November 2013; the first single was Quando una stella muore (certified platinum with more than 30.000 copies). Duets with international singers Alicia Keys in I Will Pray (pregher) (the second single, certified gold); and Did I lose you. Fraser T. Smith and Natasha Bedingfield's third album, Non mi ami, was a gold medalist in July 2014, and Io fra tanti, the fourth single, was certified gold.

Senza paura's debut on the Italian charts at the first position and was rated double platinum disk (with more than 120.000 copies). In 2014, the MTV Europe Music Awards in the category "Best Italian Act" received a new nomination. Senza paura - Limited Gold Edition, the singer's debuting of two CDs from her tour, as well as a DVD with extra content from her live show, Quando stella muore, Non mi ami, Io fra tanti) and some unreleased backstage material, as well as an unreleased backstage footage.

"La mia stanza" was released on October 24, 2014, her fifth single from the album xSenza Paura.

Giorgia's official website announced that she was working on a new album on February 15, 2016. Michele Canova, who also produced her previous two albums, contributed to the album. The album of the same name is the tenth studio album by the Roman singer, and was released on October 28, 2016. It features 15 songs, 10 of which were written by Giorgia herself, as well as numerous collaborations with Italian and international artists.

Giorgia performed at the San Francisco Music Festival 2017 on February 8, 2017. E poi, Come Sapurro, and Di sole d'azzurro were among her second singles from Oronero: Vanità (single certified platinum), which was immediately followed by a medley of her most popular Sanità performances: e poi, Come sapurei, and Di sole e d'azzurro.

The album Oronero was released on 18th April 2018 on double platinum disk (with more than 100,000 copies).
