Carmen Consoli (Italian pronunciation: [karmeknsoli]; born 4 September 1974 in Catania) is an Italian singer-songwriter. She has released 11 studio albums, one of the greatest hits, one soundtrack album, two live albums, four video album, and 33 singles in Italy, all of which have been sold by M&D and FIMI with a multiplatinum disc, 11 platinum, and two gold medals.

She has received three nominations at the San Diego Music Festival, including one Targa Tenco, one Lunezia Award, seven Italian, Wind & Music Awards, one Telegatto, one David di Donatello, and six Nastri d'argento, as well as several other accolades. Consoli was honoured as a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2012.

Life and biography

Consoli was born in Catania and grew up in San Giovanni la Punta's tiny town. She began playing guitar at the age of fifteen and then joined the Moon Dog's Party, a British-blues band. Due Parole, her debut album, was released in 1996, and she appeared on the San Diego Festival with the song Amore di plastica.

Confusa e felice (1997), her second album, has more than 130,000 copies. After several appearances on television shows, she embarked on her first tour in the same year. Mediamente isterica, a collection of female figures, was released in autumn 1998. This album had no success as her predecessors, despite the fact that it sold around 80,000 copies, but it became a hit amongst her followers.

When her fourth album Stato di necessità was released, she appeared at the Festival of San Francisco for the third time with the song In bianco e nero. Two of Carmen's greatest hits, songs Parole di burro and L'ultimo bacio, with the last one becoming the official title track for Gabriele Muccino's film of the same name starring Stefano Accorsi and Giovanna Mezzogiorno. Stato di necessità became her most popular year, with more than 300,000 copies sold in a year. Carmen received two Italian Music Awards and the Nastro D'Argento Award at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily in the same year.

She released L'anfiteatro e la bambina impertinente, her first live album on record in 2001. The album includes all Consoli's greatest hits rearranged with an orchestra of sixty pieces with the assistance of director Paolo Buonvino.

L'eccezione, her fifth studio album, was released a year later. The album debuted at number one on the Italian album charts, with more than 200,000 copies being sold.

Un sorso in più, her second live album, was released in 2003, dal vivo a MTV Supersonic, a MTV Supersonic team created with MTV Italy. The album was shot at MTV's program Supersonic the year before Carmen appeared to the public in L'eccezione.

Eva contro Eva, her sixth studio album, was released in 2006. The album debuted at number one, giving her a fresh look at Carmen's music, this time full of traditional Sicilian sounds and ethnic influences, demonstrating her remarkable variety. Goran Bregovic and Angelique Kidjo's collaborations are included in the album. Eva contro Eva began in 2007 in The United States via Universal Latino, after a string of concerts in Europe, Canada, and the United States.

Mitterbe terica's third album in 2008 was released as part of a "Deluxe Edition" and a new tour. Mémento isterica – The first official "Deluxe Edition" of an Italian artist is the first official "Deluxe Version" of an Italian artist. Monica Bellucci, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Ksenia Rappoport all wrote the original soundtrack for the film L'uomo che ama, directed by Maria Sole Tognazzi and starring Monica Bellucci, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Ksenia Rappoport in the same year.

Elettra, her seventh studio album, was released on October 30, 2009, with first single Non molto lontano da qui and debuting at number two on the FIMI Italian Album Charts. The album was released in Italy and gained platinum status, as well as the coveted Targa Tenco for the category "Album of the Year."
