The spring/summer 2023 season featured classic sportswear, unashamed glamour, and sheer revelations. Many designers opted for the past, reminising about previous decades, while others concentrated on the present for their collections, resulting in a large variety of clothing styles for customers who want variety. For example, sartorial nods to the influential Geoffrey Beene and Stephen Burrows expressed in clear lines, simple uses of fabric, and minimalist silhouettes at Victor Glemaud. Puma's return to New York Fashion Week gave the American sportswear movement a renewed sense of direction, with its line of fashion-forward activewear designed by women's creative director June Ambrose. Tory Burch's tribute to Claire McCardell delves into sports, but her collection also featured sheer blouses and skirts, which were imbued with youth. Denim reemerged on the runway, in both avant-garde and wearable silhouettes, as with every season. These were exhibited at Area, Dion Lee, and Masha Popova, among other designers. Joseph Altuzarra presented denim as his own venture, debuting a skirt set, a maxi dress, and baggy jeans down the runway.

One thing is for sure: as the world mourns the passing of fashion legend Issey Miyake: he leaves behind an immeasurable design legacy. He revolutionized manufacturing, introduced Japanese avant-garde style to the west, advocated diversity on and off the runway, embraced color theory alongside minimalism, and stretched the boundaries of "art as fashion." In a way that Miyake does not have to disrupt the market and rewrite the design cannon. Miyake's unique education informed a large portion of his design and education in Paris under top couturiers Laroche and Givenchy, as well as Geoffrey Beene.
