Enda John Stevens (born 9 July 1990) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for Premier League Team Sheffield United as a left back.

He has played in the UEFA Europa League for Shamrock Rovers and has had experience of football at a continental level. He also played Gaelic football for St James Gaels.

Early life and career

Stevens was born in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. Before playing association football professionally, he played Gaelic football for St James Gaels.

Club career

Stevens, a member of the Cherry Orchard youth team, joined UCD, but was forced to leave at the end of the 2009 season. He had trials with Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Stockport County, and Yeovil Town. He was one of Jeff Kenna's first signings for St Patrick's Athletic. He can play as a center back or as a left back. In a 1–0 victory over Cork City at Turners Cross in March 2009, he made his professional debut.

Stevens made a leap into the first team in which he was left as the first pick left back in the league, FAI Cup, and Europa League qualifiers. In the 2009-10 UEFA Europa League, he made six appearances, and the Pats advanced to the play-off round after qualifying through two rounds.

In December 2009, he signed for Shamrock Rovers. Stevens made his Rovers League debut in Tallaght Stadium on March 21 as the Shamrock Rovers captured the league title for the first day of the season.

He won the All Ireland Setanta Cup with Rovers in 2011. In 2011, he won the league championship for the second time. He appeared in the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League for Rovers, the club's first ever appearance in the competition. Stevens made 15 appearances for Rovers in European competition over the course of two seasons.

He capped off a memorable year by winning the PFAI Young Player of the Year award.

Stevens will join Aston Villa's management Alex McLeish on August 31, 2011 beginning in January 2012. Stevens was allowed to remain at Rovers until January 2012 to assist them in their maiden UEFA Europa League campaign. Aston Villa has confirmed the signing of Stevens following Shamrock Rovers' retirement from European competition.

Stevens spent the majority of his first months at Villa playing for the reserve team. In a 2–1 pre-season victory over Burton Albion on July 14, 2012, he made his first appearance for the team in a 2–1 victory. He made his complete debut for Villa starting with a 3–0 victory over Tranmere Rovers in the League Cup second round and also came off the bench in Villa's 4th round victory over Swindon Town. Stevens made his first league appearance for Villa on November 3rd, defeating Sunderland 1–0, coming as a replacement for Eric Lichaj. Stevens made his complete league debut for Villa in the next match against Manchester United on November 10, 2012, due to an injury to Joe Bennett and Lichaj's suspension. In the next game, Stevens' third appearance in the league, the Villa defense conceded five goals after being defeated 5–0 by champions Manchester City.

Stevens made his Lavatory debut for the club against Liverpool on August 27, 2013. Stevens returned to Aston Villa after a month's loan, having made four appearances in all competitions for Notts County.

On November 28, 2013, Stevens agreed to a one-month loan agreement with Doncaster Rovers. On October 10, 2014, he signed a one-month loan contract with Northampton Town.

On September 6, 2014, Stevens was loaned to Doncaster on a one-month loan.

Stevens signed a two-year contract with Portsmouth on June 15, 2015. In a 3–2 victory over Newport County on December 26, 2016, he scored his first goal for Portsmouth. Stevens settled himself as a key player in one of the division's tightest defenses in his first season as Portsmouth finished sixth in manager Paul Cook's first season as coach Paul Cook's first season as a manager.

Stevens was named in the Team of the Season at the EFL Awards in second season as Portsmouth's first-choice left back. This was a season in which he notched in with one goal and a big seven assists, which contributed to Portsmouth's promotion to League One.

Stevens joined Sheffield United in May 2017. Stevens was promoted to the Premier League by United on April 28th. Stevens signed a long-term deal in March 2020, extending his stay at Sheffield United until 2023. He was joint-highest assist provider for Sheffield United in the 2019/20 season, as well as Lys Mousset on 4 assists.

International career

In a friendly in Cyprus in February 2011, Stevens made his Republic of Ireland U21 debut.
