'We pay your wages!' British holidaymakers hit back at anti-tourist graffiti in Tenerife as they say: 'Half the restaurants would be shut if it wasn't for us'

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 13, 2024
British holidaymakers have hit back at anti-tourist graffiti in Tenerife by saying half of the island's restaurants would be closed if it wasn't for them. Anti-tourist protest marches are due to take place on the Canary Islands including Tenerife and Lanzarote on April 20 to highlight problems such as the lack of affordable housing they claim are caused by Airbnb-style holiday rentals. Activists and environmentalists in the Canary Islands have warned that locals are being forced to live in their cars - and even caves - due to the impact of major tourism operators who are 'consuming the island'. Canarians have resorted to desperate measures to limit the number of tourists frequenting local beauty spots, spraying anti-tourism graffiti and erecting fake 'closed due to overcrowding' signs to ward off holidaymakers. Yet Brits in Tenerife have slammed the criticism, saying without them the local economy would crash.

In November, the comedian, 40, welcomed her son with her partner, Australian CNN reporter Phil Black. Ellie took to Instagram to post a mirror selfie with the baby and talk about how she felt about it after she was short of work. 'It's the first day back to work for me,' she said.' 'Eight weeks mat leave is not what anyone needs,' but there's always been somewhere.' At 5 a.m., I was left with a screaming baby. I've been so worried about leaving him with such a full plate (quite an intense schedule of nights away from the next six weeks), but my fella has been so chilled about it.'

Tallebudgera Creek: Hundreds take to a popular Gold Coast swimming hole to beat the searing heat only to find out the water had been contaminated by a major SEWAGE leak: 'Smell here is putrid'

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 18, 2023
Hundreds of people have descended on a popular swimming spot despite a massive sewerage fire, with visitors describing the stench as 'putrid'. Following the leak, Tallebudgera Creek on the Gold Coast has been blocked between Schuster Park and Tallebudgera Creek Beach. However, on Monday, as the water quality reached new heights, swimmers took a dip. Even teenagers were seen leaping off the bridge into the water, some completely unaware of the sewage leakage.
