Eliaquim Hans Mangala (born 13 February 1991) is a French professional footballer who plays center back for Valencia and the France national team. Born in France, he moved to Belgium as a youth and began his career at Standard Liège before moving to Porto in 2011 where he won three Primeira Liga titles before joining Manchester City in 2014 for £32 million.
He played 79 games for City, won the Premier League in 2017-18, and owed loans at Valencia and Everton before joining the former on a free transfer in 2019. Mangala made his French national team debut against Uruguay on June 6, 2013.

Club career
Mangala was born in Colombes, Northwestern France, to Congolese parents, but she left Belgium at the age of five to live in Namur, France's second-speaking capital. He joined Athletic Club Lustin as a youth player and spent six years with the club before heading to CS Wépionnais in nearby Wépion. Mangala joined the city's best team, UR Namur, after two years in Wépion and was immediately impressed. Mangala was used as a striker at Namur, and his good work at the youth level attracted attention from Standard Liège. Mangala and Standard also reached an agreement on a three-year youth deal in 2007.
Mangala arrived at Standard Liège and was converted from a left back and inserted into the club's under-17 team for the 2007–08 season. Mangala scored two goals in Porto's Europa League Round 16-second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt four days later, after Porto came back from 2–0 down to draw 3–3 and claim a passage to the quarter-finals on away goals. Porto defeated Sevilla in the first leg of the tournament on Thursday, with he scoring in the game's only goal on April 3rd. Mangala signed for England club Manchester City on a five-year deal on August 11, 2014, feeing £31.8 million. However, the fee was increased by spiralling costs as a result of Mangala's split ownership at Porto, with City having to pay £18 million to two firms that controlled over 60% of Mangala's economic rights. Mangala's second figure will make them the most expensive defender in British transfer history at the time. Mangala did not play with any of France's youth football teams because she was born in Belgium. He was recruited by the Royal Belgian Football Association in 2008, who called the player up to the country's under-18 national team. However, the call up was deemed futile due to the fact that no one had a passport at the time. Mangala drew the attention of the French Football Federation after excelling with Standard Liège's senior team, with France under 21 manager Erick Mombaerts attending a match between Liège and Mouscron in November. Mangala was chosen for the first time by the under-21 team for a friendly match against Tunisia on November 13th and a 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Slovenia on November 5th.
