Dru Decaro Life

Andrew Philip DeCaro (born September 1, 1983), also known as Dru Decaro on stage, is an American singer, singer/songwriter, and producer.

He is best known as the lead guitarist for Grammy Award-winning RnB artist Miguel and has performed with Snoop Dogg, Will.I.Am, John Legend, Ice Cube, Faith Hill, Lil Jon, and Andy Grammer.

Early life

DeCaro was born in Washington, D.C., and moved to Baltimore, MD, at the age of 3. While moving, Dr. Lu's uncle played an old guitar at their house. Dru was befuddled to allow his uncle to keep the guitar, and he started playing it right away. Dru formed a band and began writing songs and rehearsing in a friend's basement assembling children from the neighborhood.

Dru met an older drummer while working at a local pub and was thrust into Baltimore's Rock 'n' Roll and heavy metal scene at 15. The resulting band, Ex-Rate, was heavily inspired by the metal bands of the early 2000s (Deftones, Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down) and Hardy Coast hip hop (Wu-Tang Clan, Gravediggaz), and the pioneer of east coast hip hop, performing a single show around the Mid-Atlantic, selling the bill with then-regional band The Strokes, Good Charlotte and Pissing Razors The band would often have to sneak young Dru into the back doors of bars and clubs where they played, but it soon became normal, as he was the principal songwriter and a bit of a mystery weapon. Dru was suspended from high school on arson and reckless endangerment charges and sought refuge in music and the band. But they would break up soon after, with some of the friendships having soured over addiction, distance, and diverging tastes.

When starting his new band, Matt'Boyitz' Long, Dru is still in touch with him. In the early 2000s, a four-piece, experimental rock band called 'To A Science.' While still a youth, Dru was the band's principal songwriter and de facto leader as they performed around the region and released their debut album, 'Why Stop Now.'
