Dillon Brooks Career

College career

After playing at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, Brooks, a small forward from Mississauga, Ontario, transferred to the University of Oregon. He averaged 11.5 points per game as a freshman and was named to the Pac-12 Conference all-freshman team. Brooks led the Ducks to the Pac-12 Conference regular season title and a top-ten national ranking as a sophomore. The Sporting News announced him first-team All-Pac-12 and a third-team All-American at the end of the season. The United States Basketball Writers Association also named him as the best IX basketball player of the year (USBWA). Brooks averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Brooks said he would remain with Oregon for a third season after the conclusion of the 2015–16 season. In the summer of 2016, he sustained a foot injury and did not participate in Oregon's offseason trip to Spain. Brooks was accepted to the Associated Press' preseason All-America squad on November 7, 2016. In 28.9 minutes per game, Brooks averaged 14.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in his three seasons of college life.

He declared himself eligible for the 2017 NBA draft and hired an agent, putting an end to his college career.

Professional career

Brooks was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 45th pick in the 2017 NBA draft and then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies right away. On July 21, 2017, the Grizzlies announced Brooks to his rookie scale deal. Brooks scored 19 points in the Grizzlies' season opener on October 18, 2017, the most points scored by a Canadian-born player in an NBA debut.

In a 137-123 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 11, 2018, Brooks scored a career-high 36 points, one assist, and two steals. Brooks was expected to be involved in a failed three-way trade between Memphis, the Washington Wizards, and the Phoenix Suns in December 2018; the trade faltered due to miscommunication between Brooks and his similarly named teammate, MarShon Brooks, because the Memphis front office did not want to trade him, not MarShon.

Brooks recovered from a ruptured ligament in his right big toe on January 5, 2019 and underwent successful surgery to fix it. Brooks did not return for the remainder of the 2018–19 season.

Brooks was the Grizzlies' starting shooting guard for the 2019–20 season. On February 5, 2020, after scoring 16.1 points per game in the first half of the season, the Grizzlies announced a three-year, $35 million contract.

In a 104-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings on February 28, 2020, Brooks scored a season-high 32 points, as well as receiving two rebounds, one assist, and one block.

Brooks scored a season-high 31 points on his debut in NBA playoffs on May 23, 2021, as well as 7 rebounds, leading the Grizzlies to a 112-109 victory over the top-seeded Utah Jazz. In five games, the Grizzlies will be unable to be eliminated and lose the series.

Brooks would miss two to three weeks due to a fracture in his left hand, which was announced on October 12, 2021. In a 105-100 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on December 19, he scored a career high 37 points. Brooks sustained a left ankle injury during a 123-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on January 8, 2022. He was out for 3-to-five weeks with a foot injury, which was confirmed as an ankle sprain the previous day. Brooks scored 24 points in a 117–130 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs on April 16.

Brooks was rated a flagrant 2 and ejected after he chased down the Warriors' Gary Payton II and struck him in the head while in the air, going up for a fast-break layup; Payton bowed hard and fractured his left elbow. Brooks was suspended from Game 3 of the series.

National team career

On May 24, 2022, Brooks agreed to a three-year contract to compete with the Canadian senior men's national team.

National team career

In the 2015 Pan American Games, Brooks competed for the Canadian national team, where the team earned the silver medal.

Another game, another victory, and another match for the Houston Rockets. This time, it was power forward Jabari Smith Jr. who threw down for Ime Udoka's team by facing Utah Jazz guard Kris Dunn, resulting in an ejection for both players. As the ball was being brought up the court five seconds into the second quarter, the two threw punches at each other. Before the brawl started to escalate, players and officials clashed, no one seemed to land a significant blow. The two were exchanged a few words, a few pushes, and the next thing you'll know we're ejected,' Dunn said.
