Myles Christian Turner (born March 24, 1996) is an American basketball player for the National Basketball Association's Indiana Pacers. (NBA)

He spent one season for the Texas Longhorns before he was drafted in the NBA draft in 2015 and dubbed the 11th overall pick by the Pacers.

Early life

Turner was born in Bedford, Texas, to parents David and Mary Turner, and they started playing basketball as a six-year-old. He was a student at Central Junior High School and coached his team to 27 victories as a 6-foot-2-inch (1.88 m) freshman.

High school career

Turner played basketball for the Texas Select team throughout high school to learn himself and gain attention as a player, competing in well-known tournaments and camps such as the LeBron camp, the Nike Big Man Skills Academy, Adidas Nations, and the Elite 24 invitational.

Turner's ankle broke during his first spring game of AAU play, affecting his chances of recruiting, but he recovered and gained 30 pounds to improve his game between his sophomore and junior years.

Turner averaged 15.7 points, 12.87 rebounds, and 8.64 blocks per game in his junior year, leading Trinity to a 17-13 record and winning the state playoffs for the first time in ten years, but only the ninth time in school history dating back to the school's establishment in 1968. He has also hit six triple-doubles.

Turner maintained his high level of output during the 2013 AAU summer tournament, leading his Texas Select team to the championship in front of coaches from the majority of the Big 12 schools.

Turner's senior year as a nationally renowned figure in terms of his athleticism, ball control, shooting capabilities, and natural shot blocking for someone of his height. He solidified his point by finishing out his high school career with 18.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 6.8 blocks per game, leading the Trojans to a 24–7 record.

Turner was one of the few uncommitted recruits after finishing his senior year. Several internet sources, including Rivals.com and several other college basketball analysts, also ranked him as the No. 1 in the country's highest scorers, as well as being named the No. Among others. Behind Jahlil Okafor, the country's second center. Turner had already received 60 different bids by his senior year in 2013, but the list was narrowed down to Texas, Kansas, Duke, Arizona, Kentucky, Ohio State, and Oklahoma State. In the 2014 McDonald's All-American Boys Game, Turner scored seven points and seven rebounds. In the 2014 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship, he represented the United States, helping the country win a gold medal.

College career

Turner averaged 10.10 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game as a freshman at Texas in 2014–15, winning the 2015 Big 12 Freshman of the Year award.

Turner was drafted in the NBA draft on March 30, 2015, forgoing his last three years of college eligibility. "I knew I'd be picked really high so I knew it was going to be a good time," Turner said in June 2015.

Professional career

Turner was selected by the Indiana Pact with the 11th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft. Since undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his left thumb, he played 21 games between November 13 and December 28 of his rookie season. In a 122–110 loss to the Golden State Warriors on January 22, 2016, he scored a then-high 31 points. After placing third among East first-year players in scoring (13.4 ppg), rebounding (6.6 rpg) and minutes (29.8 mpg) during the month, he was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for February. In a 92–84 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, he scored 24 points and a career-high 16 rebounds on March 24, he added 24 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Turner played for the Pacers in the Eastern Conference for the seventh seed, defeating the Toronto Raptors 4–3 in the first round. He received NBA All-Rookie Second Team awards at the end of the season.

Turner had 30 points and a career high-tying 16 rebounds in a 130-121 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the Pacers' season opener on October 26, 2016. In a 102-95 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, he scored 26 points on December 15. In a 107-94 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, he had 17 points and tied a career high with 16 rebounds on March 26.

Turner was elected team captain prior to the 2017-18 season. Turner had 21 points and 14 rebounds in a 140-131 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in the Pacers' season opener on October 18, 2017. Due to a concussion, he missed the next eight games. He scored a season-high 25 points against the Miami Heat on November 19. Turner was forced to miss nine games in January due to a broken right elbow. He scored 25 points against the Philadelphia 76ers on March 13, tying his season high against them.

Turner agreed a four-year, $72 million contract extension with the Pacers on October 15, 2018. Turner tied James Edwards (391) for number eight on the franchise's NBA career chart on October 29, 1993-93 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. In a 109-101 victory over the Washington Wizards on December 10, he added 26 points and 12 rebounds, his highest level since 1998. In a 105-89 victory over the Wizards, he had 18 points and a career-high 17 rebounds on December 23. In a 105-96 victory over the Chicago Bulls, he had his first seven blocks on March 5. In a 106-98 loss to the Trail Blazers on March 18, he scored a season-high 28 points.

In a 119-80 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on February 25, 2020 Turner had a career-high eight blocks.

Turner led the Pacers to a 121-107 victory over the New York Knicks on December 22, 2020, matched a career-high eight blocks. In a 114–107 win over the Houston Rockets on January 6, 2021, he hit eight blocks in a 114–107 win. Turner had a season-best 3.4 blocks per game when the season ended.

In a 134-135 overtime loss to the Washington Wizards on October 22, 2021, Turner career-high 40 points, five three-pointers, ten rebounds, and three blocks. Turner scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 111–98 victory over the New York Knicks on November 4, while leading a career-high seven 3-pointers and grabbing 13 rebounds. He was out for at least two weeks with a stress reaction in his left foot on January 28, 2022. Through the All-Star break on February 10, he was shut down. Turner was ruled out for several weeks after being ruled out on February 23, 1998. He had been barred from the remainder of the season on March 28. If he played the required 58 games and ended the season with 12.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game, in 42 games, he would have led the league in blocks, shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the three-point line.
