Denzel Rae Don Curry (born February 16, 1995) is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter.

Curry, who was raised in Carol City, Florida, began rapping in sixth grade and began working on his first mixtape in 2011 while attending college.

SpaceGhostPurrp, an underground Florida rapper, made the mixtape popular on Purrp's social media, bringing Curry's local attention and resulting in Curry's incorporation of Purrp's hip-hop group, Raider Klan. Curry joined the Raider Klan in 2013 and his debut full-length album, Nostalgic 64, was released in September of that year, although he was still in high school.

On June 9, 2015, Imperial and Ta13oo, which debuted at number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart, are scheduled to announce four more projects, 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms, and Ta13oo on July 27, 2018.

Zuu's fourth studio album, Zuu, was released on May 31, 2019 to further acclaim.

Early life

Denzel Rae Don Curry was born in Carol City, Florida, on February 16, 1995. He is of Bahami descent through both his mother and father. Curry began to rape in elementary school with early poetry aspirations. His time at a local Boys & Girls Clubs of America chapter, where he challenged others to rap battles. He attended Design and Architecture High School in Miami for two years before being kicked out. Curry later attended Miami City Senior High School, where he began working on Nostalgic 64 while still attending classes. Curry confessed to being molested by an unidentified older male during his childhood in a 2018 interview with The Breakfast Club.

Personal life

Treon "Tree" Johnson, Curry's brother, died as a result of illness after being arrested by the police in Hialeah, Florida, on February 27, 2014. Officers responded to a call made by a man who said that Johnson was beating two dogs with a metal pipe. In an attempt to restrain Johnson, officers used physical force, pepper spray, and a taser. He died as a result of being taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital due to his wounds. The incident was deemed as a case of police brutality by his family. In interviews and music, Curry has discussed Johnson's death.

Curry has always expressed his admiration for art, with a number of comic books and anime shows influencing him to draw.

Curry lived in Miami before January 2017 with XXXTentacion, Ronny J and other C9 activists, according to the self-titled ULT House. After breaking up with his mother, he painted his entire room and to help him, several people living in the ULT House drew all over their walls. He has lived in Los Angeles since.

Curry found out he was related to S. Louis rapper Smino by the discovery of a shared uncle in January 2021.

Career

Curry's first mixtape, King Remembered Underground Tape 1991–1995, was released on September 24, 2011. Curry's whole project was later revealed on SpaceGhostPurrp's site, which triggered Denzel's musical career. Curry became a member of SpaceGhostPurrp's hip hop group, Raider Klan, following the unveiling of Curry's first mixtape.

In 2012, he released King of the Mischievous South Vol. II, his second mixtape. 1 Underground Tape 1996, which piqued the attention of fellow American rapper Earl Sweatshirt and other Odd Future artists, is the product of a single Underground Tapee.

After Trayvon Martin's death, he lived in Carol City and attended Denzel Curry's third mixtape, titled Strictly for My R.V.D.R.Z., he was released. Tupac Shakur's style and name were heavily inspired by his rap style and the name of the album.

Curry's manager Mark Maturah, and under his leadership, released his first studio album, "Dark & Violent," starring J. K. The Reaper and Nell, in late 2012.

On YouTube, a mixtape titled "Curry Wuz Here" appeared in 2021, and the release date was reported to be January 16, 2011.

Curry left the group based on his solo rap career after being disbanded, leading to Curry's decision to embark on his solo rap career. Curry's debut full-length album, Nostalgic 64, was released on September 3, 2013. Among others, JK the Reaper, Lil Ugly Mane, Mike G. Nell, Robb Bank$, Stephen A. Clark, and Yung Simmie appear on the album. Curry appeared on Deniro Farrar's "Bow Down" album in 2014 (included from Farrar's Rebirth EP). Curry was also on Dillon Cooper's track "Eyes of the World" (included from Cooper's X:X mixtape). Curry has said he was heavily inspired by Outkast's album, Aquemini, when listening to the video. Goodie Mob and CeeLo Green, as well as other southern artists, inspired him.

Curry's first double EP, 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms, debuted on June 9, 2015, with his breakout song "Ultimate." The song went viral, and it was used in several Bottle Flip videos. Spotify has over 175 million streams and YouTube has 65 million views. The single "Flying Nimbus" was his first release in 2016.

Imperial, his second full-length album, was released on March 9, 2016, but it was re-released on Spotify as the deluxe version on October 14, 2016.

Curry was featured in XXL magazine in June 2016 as part of the 2016 Freshmen Class. Curry portrayed a 'newman cypher' alongside Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, and Kodak Black as part of this performance. This cypher has over 180 million YouTube views as of March 2021, the most for the XXL channel.

Curry's website added a song titled "Hate Government [demo]" on May 13, 2017. In the weeks that followed, he performed two more demos for "Equalizer [demo]] and "Zeltron 6 billion," both starring Lil Ugly Mane. Following these announcements as well as a series of cryptic messages on social media (showing another alter ego named Zeltron) he released an EP named 13. Both of the demo tracks were included on the EP, as well as two other new songs. Curry's "Skywalker" album was released on August 18, 2017. Later this year, a remastered version of 32 Zel was released, as well as a Juicy J. remastered version of "Ultimate" on September 22.

Curry made several references of his third studio album, Ta13oo, when he first began releasing demos for songs on 13. The 13 songs serve as a preview to Ta13oo, and no release date has been announced for the album. He appeared on artist ASAP Ferg's "Kristi," which also featured IDK. On March 10, it was the first time a live concert in Austin, Texas, was held. He uploaded the song "Uh Huh" featuring IDK on his official YouTube channel on March 16, 2018.

On Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show, Curry unveiled "Sumo" on Thursday, the lead single off of Ta13oo's "Sumo." "Percs" was Curry's second single off the album on May 24, 2018. "Clout Cobain" was Curry's third single and announced on July 13, 2018, that his album Ta13oo would be released in three acts: The first act, Light, was announced on July 25, followed by Gray on July 26, and Dark on July 27. Each previously released single represents one of the album's performances, as "Sumo" represents Light, "Clout Cobain" represents Gray, and "Percs" refers to Dark, which form Ta13oo together.

Curry performed a cover of "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine on Australian radio station Triple J on February 14, 2019 as part of the Like a Version, which was received widespread acclaim. His report earned him the 5th position on the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown this year.

Curry's first single since the introduction of Ta13oo was released on May 8, 2019. The song is named after his father, whom the album is based on. Curry's second single title "Speedboat" was announced on May 22, 2019, as well as the launch of his forthcoming Zuu album.

Curry made his television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 15, 2019, performing a medley of "Ricky" and "Wish" from his album Zuu. He also revealed that his signature dreadlocks had been chopped.

Curry unveiled a project titled 13lood Out on January 6, 2020, starring Ghostemane, Xavier Wulf, ZillaKami, and AK of The Underachievers. The initiative was first announced in November 2018.

Curry unveiled Unlocked, an EP collaboration with Kenny Beats, was released on February 7, 2020. The publication was accompanied by an animated short film. Curry appeared on the soundtrack to the Madden NFL 21 game in August 2020, alongside singer Yungblud. Curry appeared on $NOT's track "Sangria" in October 2020.

Curry unveiled 1.5, a rework of his previous collaboration with Kenny Beats, was released on March 5, 2021. The remix album includes new work from Robert Glasper, The Alchemist, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Sango, Jay Versace, Godmode, and Charlie Heat, as well as recent Smino, Joey Bada$, and Benny the Butcher among others.

A North American and European tour was announced on the same day (with guest artists Kenny Mason, Mike Dimes, Redveil, and PlayThatBoiZay). Curry released another single from the forthcoming album "Zatoichi" starring Slowthai on February 24, 2010. It was accompanied by a music video directed by Adrian Villagomez. Curry announced on March 18 that the album would be released on March 25. T-Pain's third single, "Troubles," was released along with a music video on March 21. The album was released on March 25, 2022. It debuted on the Billboard 200 chart and at number 51 on the Billboard 200 chart and at number 23 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Albums chart, peaking at number 51 on the Billboard 200 chart and at number 23.
