It was during this period when she regained contact with Simms that she learned how to properly mix her own songs. Simms assisted her in learning how to use the equipment in order to help her create more music. She signed with Interscope Records in 2017. Johnny Montina is her boss.
Whack made her debut as Tierra Whack in March 2017, with three songs including "Toe Jam" and "Shit Happens."
"Mumbo Jumbo," a hip-hop single and accompanying music video that featured the young rapper on stage while wearing a mouth prop, was released in October 2017. The bulk of the song's lyrics are deliberately unintelligible. In 2017, she appeared on Flying Lotus for the fourth time.
Whack World, Whack's debut fifteen track album, was released on May 30, 2018 and received a "Best New Music" award from Pitchfork. Critics applauded the album's unusual appearance, with each song lasting about 1 minute each. Current artists who have been in the industry such as rapper Remy Ma chose to cosign Whack in an episode of Genius' "The Cosign" series on YouTube in which current artists who have worked in the industry have the opportunity to view videos of younger artists. Remy said, despite the fact that she predicted potential in each of the artists, "I pick her because I feel like she brought the entire package as far as the song, the vocals, and the actual visual." I think she did something that was way out of place, and I loved it. "I want to watch it again." Whack's single "Unemployed" was released in a group of female MCs such as Kash Doll, CupcakKe, Mulatto, Tay Money, and That Girl Lay Lay Lay Lay Lay Lay in the episode of The Cosign. Beginning on February 19, 2019, Whack released one single per week for five weeks in a series she referred to as "#whackhistorymonth."
