David Bromstad Life

David Reed Bromstad (born August 17, 1973) is an American designer and television celebrity.

He was named the winner of the HGTV Design Star's inaugural season in 2006.

He is the host of his own television show, Color Splash with David Bromstad, which premiered on HGTV in March 2007 as well as Color Splash Miami on HGTV, which premiered in 2010.

My Lottery Dream Home, on HGTV, is also a host of My Lottery Dream Home, in which he assists lottery winners in finding their dream real estate home.

Early life and education

Bromstad was born in Cokato, Minnesota, to Diane Marlys Bromstad (née Krueger) and Richard Harold Bromstad. His mother is of Swedish and German descent, and his father is of Norwegian descent. He has three older siblings, Dean Richard Bromstad, Dynelle Bromstad, and Dyonne Rachael Bromstad. He had always been fascinated in art and design, and when attending Wayzata High School, he made the decision to pursue a career as a Disney animator. He attended the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, a school known as a starting point for Disney careers. He began working as a Disney illustrator after graduating.

Personal life

Bromstad is openly gay.

He owns a home in Orlando, Florida, which was featured on My Lottery Dream Home: David's Dream Home.

He has a "tattoo addiction" and favors designs that refer to his passion for family, color, gay pride, and Disney.

Career

After being placed on leave as a Disney illustrator, Bromstad Studio was born. Bromstad travelled to Miami Beach and competed for HGTV's Design Star, a reality television contest between a contestants to select a host for a new show on the HGTV cable network at the behest of a friend. Bromstad competed against nine other potential designers on Design Star, winning the grand prize – a car – and the opportunity to host his own show on HGTV.

Bromstad appeared as a guest-jude in the first episode and as moral support to the finalists in "Challenge 7: Island Dreams" on the second season of HGTV Design Star. He was a mentor from Season 6 and the host from Season 7.

He hosted Design Star All-Stars in 2012 and 2012. He appeared on HGTV's Design at Your Door and was a competitor in the second season of Rock the Block, collaborating with designer Tiffany Brooks. He has appeared on HGTV'd, HGTV Showdown, and Bang for Your Money.

Bromstad began hosting My Lottery Dream Home in 2015.
