Ginger Zee Life

Ginger Renee Colonomos (née Zuidgeest; born January 13, 1981), better known as Ginger Zee, is an American television star.

She is ABC News' chief meteorologist.

She was previously their weekend meteorologist.

Early life and education

Zee was born in Orange, California, on January 13, 1981, the daughter of Dawn Zuidgeest-Craft (née Hemleb) and Robert Zuidgeest. Before she was 1 year old, the family moved to Michigan. Zee was named after her Dutch father's "Ginger" from Gilligan's Island due to his love of the show.

Zee has a stepfather named Carl Craft, as well as two half-sisters, Adrianna and Elaina Craft, who live in her extended family. Adriaan Cornelis "Adrian" Zuidgeest and Hillegonda "Hilda" Zuidgeest (née VanderShoor), who immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands, are Zee's paternal grandparents. George Joseph Hemleb and his grandmother Paula Adeline Wesner are both grandparents of Zee.

Zee said she wanted to be a meteorologist because "I saw a waterspout on Lake Michigan when I was eight years old." I was mesmerized. It was actually the coolest thing I'd ever seen." Zee graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Michigan, in 1999. Zee then went to Valparaiso University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology as well as a major in both math and Spanish. She aspired to be a meteorologist on The Today Show by age 30.

Personal life

Zee was diagnosed with narcolepsy at the age of 21, and was told not to write about it. Zee became engaged to WNBC's Benjamin Aaron Colonomos, also known as Ben Aaron, in August 2013. On June 7, 2014, the couple wed. Adrian Benjamin Colonomos, the family's first child together, was born in Petoskey, Michigan, in December 2015. On August 14, 2017, she revealed on Good Morning America that she was pregnant with her second child. Miles Macklin, her son, was born in February 2018. The family lives in Manhattan.

Ginger Zee Career

After graduating from college, Zee worked for various media outlets such as WEYI-TV in Flint, Michigan, WYIN-TV in Merrillville, Indiana, WLAV-FM and WOOD-TV both in Grand Rapids, Michigan, WBMA-LD ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Alabama as an intern under chief meteorologist James Spann, and WMAQ in Chicago, Illinois, an NBC owned and operated station. While working at WMAQ from 2006-2011, Zee was once asked to fill in as a guest meteorologist on the weekend edition of The Today Show, and this fulfilled her high school goal. In addition, Zee is an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.

Zee reached national prominence when she joined Good Morning America Weekend on November 12, 2011. Zee occasionally appears on other ABC programming such as Nightline and ABC World News Tonight.

On December 2, 2013, ABC News announced that Zee would become Chief Meteorologist for Good Morning America and weather editor for ABC News, succeeding Sam Champion, who took a job with The Weather Channel.

In 2015, she competed in an episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! against Bellamy Young, who won, and Josh Gad.

On March 4, 2016, Zee was announced as a celebrity competitor on the 22nd season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars. She was paired with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy. The couple finished in third place behind Paige VanZandt in second and Nyle DiMarco in first.

Good Morning America's Ginger Zee claps back at troll who says she 'dresses like a streetwalker', September 27, 2022
The weather lady, 41, had the best response to the hater, who claimed that her choice of clothing resembled that of a retired-stripper-turned-prostitute. 'I have been missing these harsh disses on Twitter lately,' she fired back, alongside some laughing emojis. 'Thank you for the smile.' The TV personality added: 'If this is what a stripper turned prostitute wears… I'm out of the loop.' The GMA star's epic response quickly gained hundreds of likes and replies from people who stuck up for her choice of clothing. This isn't the first time Ginger has dealt with backlash for her looks. Back in 2020, someone wrote on Twitter that her makeup reminded them of a 'hooker.' Ginger previously revealed that she struggled with anorexia as a teen, and explained how comments criticizing her looks could trigger her eating disorder.
