Life and career

Darin was born in Stockholm to Kurdish parents Shwan and Ashti, who are from Iraqi Kurdistan. He grew up in a musical family and began performing at an early age, with Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Whitney Houston as some of his major influences. After being discovered in college by a music producer after a performance, he began writing and recording songs at the age of 14.

Darin became nationally recognized in 2004 when he appeared in the first season of the Swedish Idol at the age of 16. He soared to become one of the show's most popular contestants, receiving 78% of the public vote. He finished as the runner-up and was signed by SonyBMG the day after the finale. The Anthem, his debut album, was released in February 2005. The album debuted at number 1 in the Swedish Album Charts and was rated gold by the IFPI. Robyn wrote his first song "Money for Nothing" and quickly climbed to No. 1. 1. Darin was the most visible celebrity in the country in 2005. They often wrote about his hysterical followers and referred to him as "the ultimate pop star."

Darin's second, self-titled, album debuted in the same year and debuted at number one. It was his first time to be released outside of Sweden, after being released in Finland. Darin was awarded platinum status by the European Union. Darin produced the album with record producer RedOne, and later announced the platinum-selling "Step Up" on Sverigetopplistan, which was also the first single to be released in Finland. Darin's first single "Ta mig tillbaka" from his (then) forthcoming Swedish album Fjärilar i magen came out in March 2015. It was the first time he recorded a song with only acoustic instruments, giving the result a different feel than those that had before. The lyrics were an autobiographical tale about his childhood and growing up in the 1990s. The single reached platinum and became Sweden's most watched song of the year.

In September 2015, Darin's own record label Dex Music unveiled Fjärilar i magen's fifth number one album in Sweden, making it his sixth number one album in Sweden. Darin's new English album Exit was signed by Sony Music for all Asian countries, including the Middle East in 2015.

Darin continued to perform in Swedish and released his eighth studio album Tvillingen on November 24, 2017. The album debuted at number one on the Swedish Charts. Both the singles "Tvillingen" and "Ja m du leva" were certified 2 platinum.

Darin has since released a few singles, including "Astronaut," "Identitetslös," "Hög," "Finns inga ord" and "En säng av rosor."

Darin has referred to his album "Identity" as his most personal song to date, and he has said that the album is about being lost and not knowing where you belong. He continued to have a "inner war" within him, referring to his history as an immigrant in Sweden.

Darin's first English single since 2013 was released in May 2021. For the first time in Italy, where the single will debut at the top of the radio airplay charts, the song will be a hit in the first quarter of 2022.

In October 2021, he performed his first Christmas song "What's Christmas Anyway" and his first Christmas song "What's Christmas Anyway" appeared on November 2021.
