Danille van de Donk (Dutch pronunciation: [dab dnk]; born 5 August 1991) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays for French Division 1 Féminine club Olympique Lyonnais and the Dutch national team. She aided her national team win the UEFA Women's Euro 2017 and placed second at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Early life

Van de Donk, a boy from Valkenswaard, the Netherlands, grew up playing football with boys. "If she started training at FC Eindhoven, she would have been laughed at by the boys," her uncle said. Club career

Van de Donk was playing for Willem II, the Dutch Efricsie club. She starred in 47 competitive league games and scored five goals for the Tricolores for the next four seasons. She appeared in eighteen of the 24 games and scored one goal during her first season in 2008. She suffered with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in her second season, which kept her off the field for several months. During the 2009-2010 season, she made seven appearances for Willem II, and the club finished third in third place with a 8–10–2 record. She scored four goals in 21 games as a starting midfielder during the 2010-11 season.

Van de Donk was signed by VVV-Venlo ahead of the 2011–12 season. She appeared in 18 regular season games and scored 8 goals as a starter for the club. Van de Donk scored a brace during a match against Heerenveen, boosting her team to a 2–1 win. She scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute in the lift of VVV to a 5–4 victory in a match against PEC Zwolle. Van de Donk scored his second brace in another match against Heerenveen, leading to a 3–1 win. With a record of 6–10–2, VVVV finished in fifth place. In 2012, she helped VVV reach the final of the KNVB Women's Cup.

Van de Donk played for PSV/FC Eindhoven before Eindhoven's participation in the inaugural season of the Dutch & Belgian BeNe League. Van de Donk was born in June 2015 and moved to Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC, a Swedish Damallsvenskan club. Van de Donk made 13 appearances for the club, scoring 4 goals. Van de Donk signed a new deal with Arsenal on October 7th, 2016, and she was a starting midfielder in 14 of the 15 games she appeared in. Van de Donk scored three goals in Arsenal's third place finish in third place with a record of 10–4–2. She scored two goals in eight matches during the FA WSL Spring Series.

International career

Van de Donk made her Dutch national team debut in a match against Mexico on December 15, 2010 in the 2010 City of So Paulo. She scored her first international goal in the 2013 European Championship qualifiers against Serbia.

Van de Donk was chosen for the Netherlands squad by Dutch national team coach Roger Reijners in June 2013 in Sweden for the UEFA Women's Euro 2013. The Netherlands squad lost all three of their group stage matches and did not progress to the tournament.

Van de Donk was a participant in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada under Reijners' direction. After finishing third in Group A and ranked second in the rankings of third place teams, the Netherlands advanced to the knockout round where they met 2011 champions, Japan, and lost 2–1.

Van de Donk was selected as part of the Dutch squad for the UEFA Women's Euro 2017 on home soil on June 14th. She went on to play a vital role in the tournament. She scored against England in a 3–0 victory for the Dutch in the semi-finals. Van de Donk qualified in the final against Denmark, where her charisma helped the Netherlands win by a landslide. The team was honoured by Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister of Sport Edith Schippers, as well as the Order of Orange-Nassau's Knights of the Order of Orange-Nassau, following the tournament.

The Netherlands defeated the United States 2-0 in 2015, losing 2–0. She also competed in the Final. "The increase [of women's football in the Netherlands] is absurd," she said after the loss. If I take a look at women's football and the rumors, it's amazing. That's what I'm most proud of, that we have so much respect from the Netherlands."

Van de Donk scored a goal in her 100th international appearance on October 8th, a 2–0 victory over Russia.
