Daniel Johns Career

Career

Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou, a former member of "The Innocent Criminals," formed a group that performed regularly after school for hours of four hours or more.

The group's careers began when the three members were 15 years old when they received a demo of their song "Tomorrow" from SBS TV's Nomad competition. After "Tomorrow" remained in the No. ten, the group, now called Silverchair, hurriedly revealed their first album Frogstomp in 1995. For six weeks, the Australian singles chart has ranked 1 in the top 10 positions.

Freak Show was released in 1997, followed by Neon Ballroom in 1999, and then Diorama in 2002. Following Diorama's success, Silverchair went on a lengthy break before releasing their next album.

In late 2005, Johns and Silverchair reunited to announce the release of Young Modern, whose name derives from a term given to Johns by composer Van Dyke Parks. The new album was released on March 31, 2007 and was followed by Across the Great Divide tour with fellow Australian band Powderfinger.

Silverchair revealed on their website in May 2011 that the band was going to "indefinite hibernation" and that "the fire simply isn't there between the three of us at the moment." Later this month, Johns and filmmaker Josh Wakely gave a talk at TEDx Sydney in which they discussed a film that was tentatively titled My Mind's Own Melody. In June 2011, a video of the talk was posted on YouTube, and in mid-2012, a trailer for the finished film was released.

During the post-Diorama period, Johns worked on several side projects, the most notable being The Dissociatives with dance singer/producer Paul Mac. Since Mac's 1997 remix of "Freak" and his contribution to Neon Ballroom, Johns and Mac have collaborated together. They recorded a five-track EP in 2000. I Can't Believe It's Not Rock. The Dissociatives (2004), the two siblings' debut album, was released in London, United Kingdom, and a few months later, they reassembled in Sydney and Newcastle to finish off the project. The Dissociatives toured with musicians Kim Moyes on drums, Julian Hamilton on keys, and James Haselwood on bass.

On Silverchair's website on June 13, 2008, it was announced that Johns was working on a new side project with Luke Steele (The Sleepy Jackson, Empire of the Sun), but that a release date was not confirmed for the collaboration. According to a radio interview with Steele, the project's name was "Hathaway and Palmer," but no details have been disclosed since.

Johns was appointed as the producer of The Scare's album in December 2008.

In 2012, Johns collaborated with the Australian Chamber Orchestra to produce the soundtrack Atlas for a Qantas Airlines commercial that debuted a week before the 2012 Olympics.

Johns explained:

For Johns' third album, the Veronicas, a pop duo from May 2012, wrote and performed music. The writing process began in November 2011, and the twin sisters shared that working with Johns was "one of our greatest experiences."

As of January 2013, Johns was scheduled to appear live with Van Dyke Parks as part of Australia's Adelaide Festival, and he was also expected to be working on his first solo album. Steele and Johns announced in May 2013 that they were finishing the job that had started in 2008.

Johns co-wrote the song "Impossible," which was released by Australian rapper 360, and also performed on the song's chorus in January 2014. Johns learned 360 through his brother Heath, who also happens to be 360's publisher.

Johns, a musician, arranged and produced the soundtrack for Netflix's animated children's film Beat Bugs in 2016. Walter Walter and Mr. Mudwasp were both the character's singing voice. "It's a dream job to go into the studio and desect all of The Beatles' songs," he said. Eddie Vedder loved his version of "Magical Mystery Tour" so much that he kept Johns' backing vocals in the final album, according to Johns.

In May 2016, Johns worked with Perth duo Slumberjack on their song "Open Fire," which was also included in the music video. He co-wrote and performed uncredited backing vocals on 'Say It' from Flume's Skin LP in the same year.

Johns has worked with artists like Zhu in the track "Modern Conversation" in 2017 and with fellow Australian artist What So Not in the album Not All The Beautiful Things, where he contributed to a large portion of the album's success in 2018.

'Boom Tish', a Johns-based band, formed in 2017. They've only one song, a remix of The Easybeats' 'Hello, How Are You?' Beau Golden and Dave Jenkins Jnr of the band released new photos of Boom Tish in the studio in January 2020. Boom Tish' live band appeared in Johns' twice-weekly Sydney Opera House shows in 2015.

In March 2018, Johns teamed up with Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun to create Dreams, releasing the single "No One Defeats Us" for the first time. No One Defeats Us is Dreams' debut album, which was released on EMI in September 2018.

According to various media outlets, Johns was planning to work on a solo album that would be out early in 2014. "It's looking very likely that it'll be out next year," Watson's boss said.

Johns performed a piano version of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the 40th anniversary of the Triple J radio station Beat the Drum, held at Beat the Drum in Sydney, Australia's Domain, on January 16, 2015.

On the Triple J radio station, Johns premiered a new song as a solo artist on January 29, 2015. Peter Vincent, The Sydney Morning Herald's National Music Editor, referred to the album as "sexy" and "soulful." "Aerial Love" debuted at No. 1. On the Australian Singles Chart, 50 is the highest ranking on the chart, with No. 2 peaking at No. 1. 21. On May 22, 2015, Johns released his fifteen-track debut album as a solo artist, titled Talk. The record features a variety of R&B, soul, synthpop, and electronic melodies. Talking at No. 1 st. Within the first two weeks of its introduction, 2 On the ARIA Albums Chart in Australia had risen. The album has also excelled in other areas of the world, coming in at No. 1. Immediately after its introduction, the Slovakian iTunes charts reached their top 1 on the Slovakian iTunes charts chart.

Melbourne! Today, Saturday and Sunday- I am signing translucent hot pink, exhibition exclusive FutureNever vinyl from 10am-1pm. We have a set allocation for each day, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. I am truly humbled and appreciative of every one of you for joining me on this FutureNever journey. When my anxiety did not allow me perform live any longer, I was told by many senior people in the industry that my career was over. I refused to accept that that was my reality, so I built my own ecosystem with my visionary friends bmgausnz To be here today, with the exhibition doing so well that rialtomelbourne has extended the run and sitting on a record that has not only become my first #1 solo record but also the longest charting Australian aria_official Top 10 of 2022 is ALL thanks to you guys. Thank you to mattryan for the FrogWash inspiration, thank you to ebflow for the impromptu laundry shoot at barrattslaundry that set it all off, thank you to fingerscrossed_creative for building the impossible Sud City and moving it on a truck from Newcastle to Melbourne, thank you eddiezammit angus_kingsmill and my radiovelvet family for making this dream a reality and finally thank you to bmgausnz for empowering (and encouraging) me to turn my back on the traditional music industry and build a new one that works for me and not against me. This signing is a thank you to everyone but also a chance for me to ‘smell the roses’, I did not want to sit in my house as my proudest achievement (the exhibition) rolled on without me properly immersing myself in it. Today is a celebration. 🎥- jaspermonsters
