Craig David Career

Career

David's first exposure came as he worked on a B-side on B-side to British firm Damage's "Wonderful Tonight" on the track "I'm Ready." He then started doing vocals for the English garage band Artful Dodger, on tracks such as "Something" and "What Ya Gonna Do."

When David Lester, the artist's then manager, met the label's co-owner Colin Lester and performed some of his songs, he became aware of him. Lester later told HitQuarters that he was captivated by the first song he heard, "Walking Away," describing "that was an absolute standout" — "it was an absolute standout." Any seventeen-year-old who could write a song like this had a lot of promise," I said. On later visiting David's home in Southampton, he discovered it was more than half the real deal, not just some boy acting out of place." Lester's label was sold to him at that time. Lester's response to the song "7 Days" revealed that he had immediately noticed a number-one album and marketed the deal to an album deal the same day.

The song "Rewind (The Crowd Says Bo Selecta)" from Artful Dodger's It's All About the Stragglers debuted in 1999, opening the way for a solo career. "Fill Me In" the first single from David's debut album Born to Do It, released on Colin Lester's and Ian McAndrew's Wildstar Records, became the first of a string of four top ten singles from his debut album Born to Do It, which sold more than 8 million copies worldwide and gained multi-platinum recognition in more than 20 countries. The song "Key to My Heart," which was also included on the award-winning Warner Bros. animated film Osmosis Jones, was also included on the album.

David's debut, which was almost entirely written by David and Mark Hill of Artful Dodger, resulted in the United States' debut of "Fill Me In" in May 2001. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it ranked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Born to Do It was first published in the United States on July 17, 2001, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over 1 million copies. The single "7 Days" reached the top 10 in the United States, but "Walking Away," which had risen to number three in the United Kingdom and number five in Australia, fell short of the top 40 in the US and was the last of his singles to chart there.

Born to Do It was voted number 2 on their "Greatest Album of All Time" poll in April 2009, behind Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Slicker Than Your Average was released in 2002 as a follow-up to their previous album Slicker Than Average. David's top ten hits in the United Kingdom continued his run of top ten hits until "World Filled with Love" peaked at number 15 in 2003, extending his streak of top ten hits. In the United States, none of the six singles appeared from the album charted.

Although "What's Your Flava?"

While "Rise & Fall" (duet with Sting) received airplay on the urban contemporary and soft adult contemporary charts, they did not make the Hot R&B/Hip Songs chart or the Adult Contemporary chart.

However, "What's Your Flava?"

the Rhythmic Top 40 chart (number 32), the Top 40 Tracks chart (number 36), and the Top 40 Tracks chart (number 32) were included in the Rhythmic Top 40 charts (number 32). According to the RIAA, Slicker Than Your Average was awarded Gold in the United States.

"On the one hand, it's coming across like I'm arrogant," David said of the album title. On the other hand, it's saying I have a lot more composure on the album.

The album was leaked on the internet ahead of its official release, but David was not too bothered because it "spreads the word."

David later signed to Warner Music and assembled his third album, The Story Goes..., which was released worldwide in August 2005 (except in the United States, where it was never released). He was ranked number one on the first single, "All the Way," which sent him to the top of the charts. "Don't Love You No More (I'm Sorry)" his second single in the charts since "Rewind") spent 15 weeks outside the UK top 75, his longest-running single since "Rewind." "Unbelievable," the album's third single, debuted at number 18 in March 2006.

In 2007, David worked with British rapper Kano on his album "This Is the Girl." The track debuted on the UK charts on August 27th, 2007, and it debuted at number 18 on the UK charts.

The single was a top-ten hit, though the album debuted at number 18 on the UK Albums Chart, although not on the Top ten. "6 of 1 Thing," Trust Me's second single, debuted at number 39 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming his third-lowest-charting single to date.

David received two awards for Best Album with Trust Me and Best R&B Act in 2008. David was honoured for his contributions to the music industry by receiving an honorary degree from Southampton Solent University at a graduation ceremony held at Southampton Guildhall on November 7, 2008.

On the 24th of November, David's first Greatest Hits album was released. David released two singles to market the album in support of its debut. On November 17, 2008, Jim Beanz, a hard bassline beats dance track, was released, and "Insomnia," produced by Timbeach productions, a dance track with hard bassline beats. Toby Gad and Eimear Crombie provided back-up vocals and instrumental stylings. David also started working with guitarist and recording engineer Kwame Yeboah, both live and in the studio.

A new "Insomnia" mix, "Up All Night Mix," was released for digital download on December 29, 2008. David re-recorded "Walking Away" with four different artists around Europe, including Monrose from Germany, Nek from Italy, Lynnsha from France, and lex Ubago from Spain as part of the Greatest Hits collection. According to the UK Albums Chart, the album debuted at number 48.
