Corentin Tolisso Career

Club career

Tolisso's career began with local clubs in Tarare and Amplepuis, near his hometown. He used to play as a forward before becoming a physical, probing midfielder. In a 4–4 draw against his future team Olympique Lyonnais at the age of 11, Tolisso scored a hat-trick. He then signed up for Lyon's academy in 2007 at the age of 13.

Tolisso's debut for the club in a 4–0 home victory over Nice on August 10, 2013, but the referee didn't even touch the ball for the first time. On October 24, he made his European club debut on October 24, 2013, defeating HNK Rijeka 1–0 in the 2013-20 Europa League group stage. Tolisso signed his first professional deal with the club this week, putting an end to the club's contract before 2017. Lyon defeated Bordeaux 21-0 away on March 9, 2014, with the 94th minute (in the 94th minute) winner scoring his first senior goal of his career (in the 94th minute). For the majority of the season, Tolisso was used as a utility player, working at right back in place of Mouhamadou Dabo and later in central midfield after injury to Yoann Gourcuff and Guefo.

Tolisso's first team action with Lyon in the following season was afforded due to Fofana's continued absence and subsequent injury to Clément Grenier. He appeared in every Ligue 1 match for the team during the 2014–15 season, scoring seven goals. Tolisso and colleagues Nabil Fekir and Anthony Lopes were given better contracts at the end of the season, resulting in new deals with the club until 2020. He maintained his fine form in the 2015-2016 Ligue 1 season, scoring five goals and setting up six assists as Lyon ended the Ligue 1 season as runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain.

Tolisso's form in the previous season gained him many suitors from around Europe, and Napoli's €37.5 million bid in July 2016. He turned down the transfer and reaffirmed his commitment to Lyon, but cited his passion for the club and excitement in their development as his reasons for staying at the club.

On August 6, 2016, Lyon defeated 4–1 by reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain for his first appearance of the season in the 2016 Trophée des Champions. In the 87th minute, Tolisso's brother scored in the back of the net, but it was no more than a consolation. Tolisso scored in his first Ligue 1 goal of the season on August 27th in a 4–2 away loss to Dijon and his first goal in a UEFA club competition in a 3–0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb.

Tolisso was handed the armband in their stead and captained Lyon in Lyon's first ever Rhône derby against Saint-Étienne, with regular captain Maxime Gonalons and vice-captain Alexandre Lacazette injured. After being sent off for a foul on Fabien Lemoine in stoppage time, Tolisso received his first red card of his career in the return fixture on February 5th. Rachid Ghezzal, a Lyon teammate, had been suspended just moments before Tolisso's dismissal for a challenge against the same player. After Lyon's loss to Saint-Étienne, the ill-discipline caused club president Jean-Michel Aulas to declare that both players will be severely punished for their behavior. Tolisso remained a regular fixture in the team, but he ended the 2016–17 season with a total of 14 goals and seven assists in 47 appearances in all competitions for Lyon. He was also selected in the UEFA Europa League team of the season.

Bayern Munich signed Tolisso to a five-year contract with Lyon for €41.5 million, plus up to €6 million in potential bonuses on June 14, 2017. The fee was the highest ever earned by Lyon from the selling of a player, but the transfer of Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal on July 5, 2017 was broken for the first time by a fee of €53 million. It was also a Bundesliga and Bayern record for a signing, outspending the club's previous investment of €40 million in buying Javi Martez from Athletic Bilbao in August 2012.

On August 5, he made his club debut by playing in a penalty shoot-out victory over Borussia Dortmund that saw Bayern crowned Supercup champions. He then scored on his Bundesliga debut on August 18, scoring Bayern's second goal in a 3–1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. Tolisso scored a brace in Bayern's last group match on December 5, 2017 – but the result was not enough to guarantee the club a victory over PSG. In a 4–0 away win over SC Freiburg on 3 April 18, he scored a thumping long-range goal to double the lead.

Bayern came from behind to beat FC Augsburg 4–1 and win the league crown with five games remaining on Saturday. Tolisso equalized on April 7th as Bayern came from behind to beat FC Augsburg 4–1 and win the league championship with five games remaining.

After winning the title with France, Tolisso began the season as a World Cup champion. Tolisso fractured a cruciate ligament in his right knee in a 3–1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, September 15. Following the injury, French national team coach Didier Deschamps was convinced that Tolisso would "come back as strong, if not even better." "Much better for you" will be the 2019 season, according to him. Tolisso was reportedly able to jog on an anti-gravity treadmill during Bayern's winter trip training in Doha, Qatar, without experiencing any difficulties. According to Bayern Munich coach Niko Kova, he was supposed to return to the pitch in March 2019, which was "earlier than expected."

In the 2019-20-20 championship season, he played in total 28 appearances and four goals. In a 1–0 win over Paris Saint-Germain, he appeared in the UCL final as a second half replacement.

Tolisso won by 4–0 over Atlético Madrid in the first match of the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League group stages on October 21, 2020.

Tolisso was expected to leave the team after the season ended on May 30th, 2022.

Lyon announced Tolisso's return to the club on a five-year contract until 2027 on July 1, 2022.

International career

Despite being born in France and having represented the country at various youth levels, including the U21 side, where he was captain, Tolisso was also eligible to represent Togo through his paternal lineage. Claude Le Roy, Togo's general, revealed in 2016 that he would invite Tolisso to represent the country rather than France. Tolisso had previously acknowledged his links to Togo, but remained loyal to France, saying, "I was born here and grew up here."

Tolisso was called up to the senior squad for the first time against Luxembourg and Spain in March 2017. He had previously represented France at various youth levels. In the 80th minute of a 2–0 friendly home loss, he made his debut against the latter on March 28th, beginning the game and being replaced by Thomas Lemar.

He was called up to Russia's 23-man French squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on May 17th. In their first group stage match on June 16, he played for the first 78 minutes and was later subbed off in a 2–1 win over Australia. Tolisso did not appear in the last two group stage matches against Peru and Denmark. In a 4–3 win over Argentina in the round of 16 matches, he replaced Blaise Matuidi in the 75th minute in the 75th minute. Tolisso began the quarter-final match against Uruguay on July 6th and was aided by Antoine Griezmann's assist, who saw France advance following a 2–0 victory. In an 86th minute during a 1–0 semi-final victory over Belgium over 10 July, he was subbed on to replace Matuidi. Tolisso won their second World Cup title on July 15th, although Matuidi was still missing in the 73rd minute. During UEFA Euro 2020 qualification, Tolisso scored his first goal for France in a 2–0 win over Albania on November 17th.

After losing 4-1 to PSG, Angry Lyon ultras protested their players on the pitch with an extraordinary rant, though they warn them not to 'tarnishing' the club's shirt

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 4, 2023
After losing 4-1 at home to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night, Olympique Lyon players received an extraordinary dressing down by their fans, who warned them against'smearing' the club's shirt. As the Ligue 1 champions took a 4-0 lead at halftime at the Groupama Stadium, Kylian Mbappe scored twice, Achraf Hakimi, and new signing Marco Asensio added two more. Lyon, who are currently unbeaten in second place after four games, received some scant consolation from Corte Tolisso's second half penalty, who are now out of the playoffs with one point after four games.
