Lee Chae-rin (born on February 26, 1991), better known by her stage name CL, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and rapper.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, she spent a significant portion of her childhood in Japan and France.

CL trained at JYP Entertainment before joining YG Entertainment at the age of 15 and debuted as a member of the girl group 2NE1 in 2009.

CL took off her solo career in the United States in 2015.

2NE1 officially disbanded in 2016, and CL remained a solo act under YG until her deal came to an end in November 2019.

CL Career

1991–2008: An early life and work history began.

Lee Chae-rin was born in Seoul, South Korea, but the majority of her childhood was spent in Paris, Tsukuba, and Tokyo. She migrated to Paris alone for two years when she was 13 years old. CL said that "Culturally, I'm not 100% Korean." When living in different cities as the number of people increased. I'm very mixed and also very open." When she was 15, CL applied to join YG Entertainment in South Korea. "Intro (Hot Issue)", Big Bang's first film based on a song recording, was released in 2007. CL collaborated with fellow member Minzy for "Please Don't Go," which charted at number six on the Gaon Chart by the end of November, the same month after the company concluded with "I Don't Care" promotions. "The Badest Female," her debut solo album, was unveiled on May 28, 2013. CL wrote the lyrics and co-composed the music for the tracks "Crush," "If I Were You," and "Baby I Miss You" on 2NE1's second album Crush. CL's founder, Scooter Braun, was expected to debut as a solo artist in the United States the next year. She appeared in Diplo's single "Doctor Pepper" in May 2015, alongside Riff Raff and OG Maco. CL's first single, "Hello Bitches," was released in November 2015 as a preview for her initially scheduled EP Lifted. She appeared on labelmate Psy's single "Daddy." The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 97, her first appearance on the charts. "Lifted" was released on August 19, 2016. Within three hours of being announced, the song debuted in the top 30 of iTunes' Hip-Hop/Rap chart, peaking at number 21. CL's Hello Bitches Tour, her first North American tour, began in New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on October 29, 2016, and ended in Toronto on November 14.

She appeared on Lil Yachty's single "Surrender," an exclusive track off of his Target deluxe edition of his album Teenage Emotions, alongside Shaiana, on May 26, 2017. The My Little Pony: The Movie soundtrack also featured "No Better Feelin" from CL's original soundtrack album, "No Better Feelin'" originally released on September 22, 2017. She made her Hollywood debut as an actress in Peter Berg's film Mile 22, which stars Mark Wahlberg, on January 4, 2018.
