Chelsea Elizabeth Islan (born 2 June 1995) is an Indonesian actress.
She gained public recognition in Tetangga Gitu, a NET TV sitcom.
She made her film debut in Refrain (2013) and continued her acting career in films including Street Society (2014), Merry Rika: Mimpi Sejuta Dolar (2014), Di Balik 98 (2015), and Guru Bangsa: Tjokroaminoto (2015).
She was named ASEAN parade ambassador in 2017 alongside Indonesian actor Nicholas Saputra.
Early life
Chelsea Islan was born in Queens, New York City, to an American mother and an Indonesian father, Islan moved to Jakarta to begin elementary school and then continued to high school at Mentari International School. She appeared in a stage performance of Once on This Island as an elementary student.
Personal life
On the 88th anniversary of the 1928 Youth Pledge, Islan established 'Youth of Indonesia,' a youth group dedicated to contributing to Indonesia and preserving the values of pluralism. She also serves as the President of the community at the 2017 Southeast Asian Leaders Summit in Jakarta. She was also named an Innovative Young Leader.
Career
She appeared in the 2013 drama film Refrain starring Afgansyah Reza and Maudy Ayunda before achieving mainstream success with the action film Street Society and the biographical film Merry Riana: Mimpi Sejuta Dolar, as well as the sitcom Tetangga Gitu in 2014.
She had appeared in Wall's ice cream commercial before this, in 2005.
In 2015 and another biographical drama Rudy Habibie, she appeared opposite Boy William in the historical drama Di Balik 98 in 2015 and another biographical drama Rudy Habibie in 2016. Both roles earned Islan prestigious accolades in the Best Actress category, which she lost to Tara Basro (A Copy of My Mind) and Cut Mini (Athirah) respectively, at the 2015 and 2016 Citra Awards.
Islan received the Best Supporting Actress Award in the 2016 Indonesian Film Festival, as well as the Best Actress Award in the 2016 Bandung Film Festival. She appeared in the Mo Brothers' action film Headshot as a doctor in 2016.
