Carly Colón Life

Carlos Edwin Colón Jr. (born February 21, 1979) is a Puerto Rican professional wrestler best known for his time with WWE under the ring name Carlito Caribbean Cool or simply Carlito. He belongs to a wrestling family, being the son of Carlos Colón Sr., who introduced him to wrestling.

His mother was born in Canada, which grants him Canadian citizenship.

Colón debuted in his father's promotion, the World Wrestling Council (WWC), winning the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship 17 times and the WWC Puerto Rico Heavyweight Championship once more.

He appeared in the X Wrestling Federation and Funking Conservatory, winning his first international championship for the second time in his career. Colón began a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and was in charge of the promotion until 2010.

He served in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), mainly wrestling in tag team matches when making appearances in WWC.

Colón made his main roster debut in October 2004.

Colón is a former United States champion and Intercontinental Champion, and he has worked with both the Raw and SmackDown brands.

After Pedro Morales, he is the first wrestler to win a championship on two separate debuts in WWE and the second Puerto Rican to become Intercontinental Champion.

Colón and his brother, Primo, were the only tag team to unify the WWE Tag Team Championship and World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania XXV.

On the independent circuit, he has gained numerous world championships.

Early life

Carlos Edwin Colón Jr., a San Juan, Texas, was born on February 20, 1979, the son of Puerto Rican professional wrestler and World Wrestling Council founder Carlos Colón Sr. and his Canadian-born wife Nancy. Primo and Stacy Colón, two younger brothers, all of whom competed in the World Wrestling Council, are among his three younger siblings. Melissa, Melissa's second sister, did not enter the wrestling business. Several members of Colón's family are also members of the World Wrestling Council, including his cousin Epico and uncle José Colón.

In 1997, Colón graduated from Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola. He joined a gym at the age of 11. He was dissatisfied with his physical appearance. He has said he did not start to wrestle for pleasure and did not set out to become a wrestler. Despite his age, he didn't decide to train until completing his college experience. Despite this, Colón was originally expected to retire within a decade and go on to operate a private company. During this first stage, he has admitted that peer pressure was applied to him to achieve his father's records.

Carly Colón Career

Professional wrestling career

Colón became a photographer in the World Wrestling Council in July 1999, then known as "Carly" for his cameraman, who was then subtly introduced to the television show. Ray González, the promotion's top heel (or villainous) wrestler, showed an interest in him right away after learning his identity. Colón retaliated after weeks of being pestered for weeks, punching González, resulting in a beatdown by La Familia del Milenio, the country's most dominant heel stable. Colón interrupted a match between González and Colón Sr. in 1999, helping his father by interrupting while wielding a shovel, which became his signature weapon early in his career. Colón Sr. and González' feud continued, with him intervening on behalf of his father. The final game of this feud came in the same way as the first Aniversario match. Vignettes depicting him training with Isaac Rosario began airing in WWC's Superestrellas de la Lucha Libre shortly after. Colón made his in-ring debut in January 2000 by defeating Félix Tapia, a worker and friend of La Familia. Immediately booked in a big push, defeating almost entire of the heel locker room within the first two weeks. Despite being online for less than three months, he gained the WWC fanbase's support.

Colón defeated González on January 29, 2000, becoming the youngest wrestler to win the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship. Following his victory, he was engulfed by followers and led to the Ejerc to la Justicia, the main fan-favorite stable in the promotion. González responded by forming a team of wrestlers that had feuded with Colón Sr. in the past, led by Hercules Ayala and Ramón lvarez. Colón withdrew the Universal Heavyweight Championship to González on February 19, 2000, following a rescue from lvarez. This culminated in a two-fold conflict involving lvarez and Ayala, which saw him victorious. He also wrestled One Man Gang, who was also involved in a storyline in which La Familia had a $10,000 reward to "end his career" during this time. Colón regained the title in the main event of Aniversario, the promotion's centennial event, on July 16, 2000. Curt Hennig was pinning him on September 30, 2000, which was followed by a feud. The two teams met in a rematch the next weekend, with the championship being postponed due to a time limit draw. Colón recovered the belt by defeating Hennig in a no-disqualification tournament without a time limit on November 25, 2000. Colón defeated "The Botswana Beast" Benjamin Peacock to a double count out on December 3, 2000. In his next match, he defeated Horace Hogan.

González lost Hennig and brought in Jerry Flynn to recapture the title. Colón won their first matches, but Flynn captured the Universal Heavyweight Championship on February 17, 2001. Reynaldo "Thunder" Rodro and Alex "Lightning" Cruz joined González in their feud with González, before migrating to another angle against La Familia's top tag team, Thunder and Lightning, consisting of Reynaldo "Thunder" Rodro and Alex "Lightning" Cruz. He won a victory over them because he was collaborating with his father and brother, Eddie Colón. Thunder and Lightning turned on González, who then pursued a Colón career, looking for him in various locations. He teamed with González to beat Thunder and Lightning at Aniversario 2001: Septiembre Negro. However, the relationship was short-lived, with González turning on Colón and regaining control of La Familia. Colón appeared in the X Wrestling Federation's television tapings on November 13, 2001. He defeated David Sierra in his first appearance for the promotion. Colón defeated González to win the Universal Heavyweight Championship on December 1, 2001, resurrecting the tradition of bringing foreign wrestlers to compete with him.

His next match was against Valianto, who won the first match between them but lost the title in a no-disqualification tournament. A rematch resulted in double disqualification, with the belt being held up after both the designated referees were assaulted. Colón defeated Vampiro to regain the Universal Heavyweight Championship, putting an end to the feud. He and his brother team battled Thunder and Lightning in the WWC World Tag Team Championship on March 16, 2002. Their reign lasted just a day, with the following match taking place the following day. He formed a Konnan team after winning the belts again on March 26, 2002 and now occupying them for nearly three months. Konnan retaliated with the narco in Thunder and Lightning by beating Stacy Colón with a guitar after losing the championships. He renounced the name during the ensuing feud, regaining it on November 23, 2002. Colón lost the championship to José "Chicky Starr" Laureano the following month, winning it back the following month. He lost the championship to Sabu on March 15, 2003, but recovered it two weeks later. Colón defeated in two tryout matches for World Wrestling Entertainment in May 2003. Tommy Dreamer and Jamie Noble were his opponents, with both contests ending in defeat. Three separate sources scrutinized his performance in a positive manner, with an official offering being made just days after the initial appearances.

Colón signed a developmental deal with WWE on June 2, 2003, and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling. At Aniversario 2003, he made his last appearance in WWC, defeating Mike Awesome in a match over Aniversario. Colón addressed the audience and vacated the Universal Heavyweight Championship, with the next champion being determined in a tournament following his departure. Due to the promotion's previous involvement with WWE, the staff of WWC's top rival, the International Wrestling Association (IWA-PR), was pleasantly surprised by the match. They hoped that the tryout would come to an end with the same result as WWE's (Germán Figueroa, Ricky Banderas, and Andy Anderson) who were unveiled, with the aim of defusing the signing's effect on a storyline that benefited from it. IWA-PR began the following month with the unveiling of the "son of a former world champion" and "legend that is universally recognised" to the competition, but it was not intended to be Colón, but it was actually a plot device to introduce David Flair. His music was played over the sound system before he was revealed, but the audience was warned by Savio Vega (Juan Rivera) that they should avoid "acting like morons."

Colón performed under the name "Carly" when he first joined OVW. In a loss to Tank Toland, Johnny Jeter, and Matt Cappotelli on July 5, 2003, he debuted by teaming with Luther Reigns and John Hennigan. Colón defeated Rob Begley and Mike Mondo in his first solo appearances. After a loss to Damien Sandow and Simon Dean that eventually, the team was broken, he joined Henningan in a loss to Henningan. Hennigan continued his winning against Colón and his new partner, Joey Mercury. This team won over Carl Lafon & Mondo before being dissolving itself. His ring name was changed to the more formal "Carlos Colón, Jr." later that day, his proper name was restored. His appearance in OVW was hampered by appearances in dark matches that occurred before WWE's main shows. He teamed with Dean in a dark match loss to Sean O'Haire and Matt Morgan that predated WWE Velocity on October 14, 2003. Colón turned heel for the first time in his career in February 2004, joining Bolin Services, a group led by Kenny Bolin and led by Shad Gaspard, Jerome Crony, Demond Thompson, Mike Mondo, and fellow Puerto Rican Lourdes Guenard. He was paired with several Mondo traders, who won against Mac Johnson and Seth Skyfire and defeated Adrenaline (a team made up of Chris Cage and Toland) twice. Shad Gaspard and Chris Masters' teams did not have the same success in three straight matches, two against Adrenaline and one against the British Knights. Colón defeated Micah Taylor on an individual basis but Cappotelli lost to Cappotelli.

Mondo and Gaspard's trio formed by him, won a couple of games against Skyfire, Mac Johnson, & Demond Thompson, Rob Begley & Steve Lewington. However, it also lost to Rod Steele, Mike Taylor & Rob Begley, Mac Johnson, Seth Skyfire, & Big Bad John. Adrenaline and Wavell Starr's team was defeated to a no contest by the trio. Colón began to appear in numerous World Wrestling Council activities while serving in OVW. Julio César López, a sporadic performer, and rivalised with him over the Universal Heavyweight Championship as the year came to an end. Colón won a November match by disqualification, effectively ending the possibility of changing hands. On December 20, 2003, he defeated the rematch and moved on to the Universal Heavyweight Championship for two weeks, losing it to Abdullah the Butcher at WWC's Three Kings Weekend. Colón also participated in several dark matches before being disqualified by Velocity and Null on Sunday Night Heat, as a result of Jim Steele and Mike Barton's loss to Jim Ballin in singles and second defeating Johnny Jeter in singles. On April 10, 2004, WWC selected him to compete in Abyss, but WWE refused to recognize him as an interpromotional match against its opponent, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Colón wrestled in dark matches for both the Raw and SmackDown throughout March and May! Brands are also known. These unofficial presentations resulted in victories over Paul London, Ruffy Silverstein, Wavell Starr, and Ricky Reyes, as well as Hardcore Holly, Shannon Moore, and Billy Kidman.

OVW's participation in WWC's year's biggest plot device was a key plot device. The promotion began on May 15, 2004, when Enrique Cruz told Eddie Colón that Carly Colón was wrestling as a heel in OVW, but only for José Rivera Jr. to dismiss it as "internet gossip." A subsequent phone call between the brothers resulted in no immediate answer. Carly Colón's role as a heel was made official in a segment in which he told his sister that he was no longer concerned about his father or Puerto Rico's people. Eddie Colón came to the United States to visit with his brother, Robert Colón. Upon arriving at the hotel where Carly Colón was staying, he asked to contact him, but the clerk refused to attend after being told "Mr. Colón says he has no brother" and receiving no response.

Eddie Colón was kicked out of the hotel and tried to attend his brother's classes, but he got the same reply and was refused admission to a OVW show that night. Carly Colón arrived late and being scolded by Jim Cornette at the beginning of the festival. This skit depicted real differences between both sides of the conflict. Cornette has said he considered him a "very good performer" during Colón's time in OVW, but only did it "was on" because he was branded "wrestling royalty" in his position as "the boss's uncle" during his time as "the boss." Cornette continued to discuss the limited role, saying that "I didn't include Carlito because he was more advanced than the rest of the guys and was cruising... but not what I wanted to see." Colón denied this by saying that "they should have done more" with him in OVW, and that the reason for not doing it was because "Jim Cornette [doesn't] like" him.

Eddie Colón sneaked and waited outside the locker rooms and confronted Carly's heel tactics from the public, resulting in a confrontation that culminated in a faceoff that ended with the heel locker jumping him. Colón Sr. travelled to Kentucky and interrupted an OVW investigation, resulting in Carly Colón's request for his removal from the building. This served as the beginning of a brother feud, with Carly Colón returning to Puerto Rico and blaming the fans by claiming to be "conformists" for celebrating a single victory. On August 21, 2004, the first match between brothers Aniversario was broadcasted. Carly Colón won the match by faking a knee injury and then shoving his sister into Eddie Colón when she stepped in to assist, despite the interruption causing the confusion. The following month, two rematches were held at Fase 3, the first of which ended in a time limit draw. He lost the rubber match, which culminated with the heel groups attacking both brothers and Colón Sr. who were futilely requesting their assistance.

As an alternative to this story, IWA-PR started hinting that Colón would join "Capitol Sports" (borrowing the name WWC used during the 1970s-1990s), which in the storyline was being secretly operated by González in collaboration with his "business partners" (a reference to Colón Sr. and Jovica) with the intention of taking over the role. The company produced a script where a surprise arrival was announced as "a young wrestler [...] with a vibrant future in the United States [...] with Capitol flowing through veins" and with whom González had historical inconsistencies when he opened his eyes, so he could "complete" an unspecified task in the invasion. In a skit in which Savio Vega dismissed this story, IWA-PR reiterated insulted Colón, citing video evidence of a match where Flash Flanagan (who was also known as "Slash Venom") pinned him at OVW. This segment was brought to an end in González's segment where he mocked an unknown individual for refusing to appear in a card, saying that "he [was] a failure like [his] father and brother."

The WWE's creative team began creating new characters for him to use in preparation for his debut. The first attempt involved copyright protection for the use of "Carlitos Colón," which is the name commonly associated with his father in Puerto Rico. Colón lost in a dark match on June 7, 2004, this time losing to Sean Morley. However, the name was changed to Carlito Colón later that month, implying that he would be teamed with Rico Constantino after being promoted. However, this theory was dismissed when Constantino was clearly injured in a match. During the last week of June, when he lost to Shane Helms in another dark match, an afro was added to his gimmick. As his promotion grew closer, Mondo's team lost to Capotelli and Nick Dinsmore and Flash Flanagan. However, it won a match over Capotelli and Steve Lewington. He was defeated by Elijah Burke in singles. In a SmackDown match on September 19, 2004, he wrestled under the name "Carlito Caribbean Cool" for the first time. A house show and a landslide with Scotty the 2 Hotty. In two more dark matches prior to Velocity, the creative team decided on this person and he wrestled under it. Moore and Chris Cage were scheduled in victories over the weekend.

Colón made his SmackDown debut on October 7, 2004. "Carlito Caribbean Cool" was later shortened to simply "Carlito"), and his gimmick was an apple toting big mouth who would spit apple "in the face of people who don't want to be cool." Carlito knocked out Cena in his first match on the main roster by using a steel chain to knock out Cena. He immediately began an undefeated streak of 14 contests, winning the championship against Rob Van Dam, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, and Hardcore Holly, as well as defeating Shannon Moore in a non-title match. Carlito was stabbed Cena in a nightclub by his bodyguard Jess. Carlito competed in the United States Championship for forty-two days before losing it to Cena due to a legitimate injury. Carlito made his pay-per-view debut at the 2004 Survivor Series, where he represented Team Angle in an eight-man tag team match against Team Guerrero, but did not attend the contest due to being chased out of the building by Cena.

Carlito was recovering from an injury, but he was involved in a comedic role with SmackDown! Theodore Long, the company's general manager, was in charge of the operation. Carlito was compelled to perform demeaning tasks around the stadium, including: selling hot dogs, removing snow from parking lots with a shovel, and mopping floors. Carlito initiated a petition in favor of Long's destitution, but it was unsuccessful. Carlito made his WrestleMania debut in a non-wrestling role at WrestleMania 21, in which he interrupted an edition of Rowdy Roddy Piper's Pit with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the special guest. Carlito's Cabana, a wrestling segment, appeared on WrestleMania. Carlito's relationship with The Big Show came after the Big Show refused an invite to work in an enforcer capacity for Carlito. Carlito tricked Big Show into consuming a poisoned apple, and Matt Morgan became Carlito's enforcer in this feud. Carlito defeated Big Show at Judgment Day due to Morgan's interference.

In the 2005 WWE Draft Lottery, Carlito was drafted to the Raw brand. On the 20th episode of Raw, where he defeated Shelton Benjamin for the Intercontinental Championship, he made his brand debut. At Unforgiven, Ric Flair took the Intercontinental title from him. Carlito was embroiled in a brand rivalry that culminated in him deciding to leave Carlito's Cabana. With Carlito battling for Team Raw against Team SmackDown, the match came to an end. In a Survivor Series match at Survivor Series, Team Raw lost.

Carlito was added to scenes involving the WWE Championship in late 2005. Carlito was welcomed to the main event of New Year's Revolution in early 2006, after defeating Shelton Benjamin in a qualifying match. After removing Kane, Chris Masters, and Shawn Michaels, he was one of the top two wrestlers left standing. He then lost the match to John Cena. Carlito and Chris Masters joined forces as a tag team following the New Year's Revolution. At WrestleMania 22, they competed against Big Show and Kane for the World Tag Team Championship. When Masters mistakenly hit Carlito, Carlito and Masters lost. Carlito confronted Masters after the match, sparking a feud between them. Carlito made a comeback when he smacked Chris Masters after his "Masterlock Challenge" on Raw the next night. Backlash, where Carlito defeated Masters with an unlawful help from the ropes, came to an end.

Carlito defeated Shelton Benjamin and Johnny Nitro in a Triple Threat match for Benjamin's Intercontinental crown at Vengeance. Nitro took the match after knocking Carlito out of the box and pinning him. Carlito began an on-screen relationship with Trish Stratus following Vengeance. He was also involved in a brief feud with Johnny Nitro and Melina that culminated after Carlito and Stratus defeated Nitro and Melina in a mixed tag team match on Saturday Night's Main Event XXIII. Following a scene where Orton threatened to assault Stratus during a backstage segment, Carlito next feuded with Randy Orton. The two wrestlers were scheduled for a match at Unfortun and a rematch on Raw; Orton won both matches. In a match at WWE's annual Tribute to the Troops event, where Carlito defeated by pinfall, the feud came to an end. Following Unforgiven, Carlito's friendship with Trish Stratus lasted until Stratus' withdrawal from wrestling.

Carlito participated in several matches involving the Intercontinental Championship in the final months of 2006. After being elected by the fans to face Jeff Hardy for the championship, his involvement in this story came to an end on Sunday. Carlito, on the other hand, lost the match. Carlito's gimmick underwent a minor change and was listed as a "ladies man" during his time as an actor in another fictional friendship with Torrie Wilson. Carlito was defeated by The Great Khali in the 2007 Royal Rumble. Carlito started a feud with Ric Flair, in which Flair insulted Carlito for leaving a show early, claiming he had no intention, no passion, and was unworthy of his position on the roster. Carlito's defeat and loss to Flair in a game, they were booked as a tag team, with Flair serving as a mentor to Carlito. Since The Great Khali stepped in, the team was involved in a Money in the Bank qualifying match, which was proclaimed a "no contest." The following week, Randy Orton defeated and a triple threat match ensued, leading to a triple threat match.

Colón expressed disappointment with WWE's decision not to book him to attend the pay-per-view and chastised their procedures for selecting performers to push, referring to backstage politics. Carlito did compete in a dark match at WrestleMania, defeating Flair as his partner against Chavo Guerrero and Gregory Helms' team. Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch also lost a top-one contender's match for the World Tag Team Championship. After the loss, Carlito became heel again, he went back to Flair. Carlito lost to Flair by submission on Judgment Day, capping their feud. Colón appeared in the World Wrestling Council's Aniversario 2007 match, where he met Scott Hall, who retook his WWE gimmick, Razor Ramon, for the first time since leaving the sport in 1996. Hall claimed that the "Carlito Caribbean Cool" character was an imitation of him, giving it the designation "Mini Razor." In a match that included interference by the then-Universal Heavyweight Champion Apolo, Colón defeated Ramon with his Back Stabber finisher. The three three threesomesome were in a three-way match for the title the next day, with Ramon defeating Apolo.

Following his feud with Flair, he was involved in angles with The Sandman and Triple H at Unfortun, where the no disqualification rule was only applicable to Carlito. Colón, a late 2007, demanded that he be released from the WWE because he was dissatisfied with his character's course. Following a consultation with Vince McMahon, he was compelled to stay. He was featured in a ladder match at the WWE Intercontinental Championship, which Hardy won on December 10, 2007. In the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania XXIV, Carlito defeated Cody Rhodes to qualify for the Money. At the time, he did not win the competition. Carlito formed a tag team with Santino Marella, who later developed it. The team was involved in several tournaments involving the World Tag Team Championship, twice being named number one candidates; however, they failed to qualify for the relevant championship tournaments.

Carlito was drafted back to the SmackDown brand as part of the 2008 WWE Supplemental Draft. He requested a vacation after the draft, after going to Aniversario 2008, where he also competed against Ray González.

He re-debuted on the brand's turning front by forming a tag team with his brother Primo on September 12. Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder were defeated in the match to earn their first victory as a team. Both teams met in a championship match two weeks later, with the Colóns winning to become WWE Tag Team Champions. Carlito and Primo followed each other in a feud with World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz. The Colóns won a tag team unification match against Miz and Morrison on WrestleMania 25, becoming the first team to hold both sets of the company's Tag Team Championships since its inception.

Both Carlito and Primo were drafted back to the Raw brand on April 15, 2009 as part of the 2009 Supplemental Draft. In a Triple Threat Tag Team Match involving Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes, the duo dropped the Unified Tag Team Championships to Edge and Chris Jericho at The Bash. Carlito and Primo invoked their rematch clause on Raw the next night, but they were dissatisfied. Carlito lost on Edge and Jericho on July 6th and Jericho, but she came back to a nirving Primo. Carlito was competing for the United States Championship in a Six-Pack Challenge, which also included Primo, but neither of them were able to win the title at Night of Champions. Carlito defeated Primo to bring an end to their feud on August 3 on Raw's episode. Carlito defeated Kofi Kingston and Mickie James on August 13 on WWE Superstars. Mendes would then become Carlito's boss until she was transferred to the ECW brand in September. Carlito came out to confront John Cena on the November 30 episode of Raw, telling him everyone on the roster was sick of him and that they should spit apple in Cena's face, resulting in his being branded with Attitude Adjustment, Cena's finisher. Carlito was defeated by Cena the following week.

Carlito was dubbed one of the eight WWE Pros for the first season of WWE NXT in February 2010. Carlito was defeated by Christian in a Money in the Bank Qualifying match on February 22nd on Raw. Carlito and his NXT Rookie Michael Tarver were teamed with his NXT Rookie Michael Tarver in a losing battle against Christian and his NXT Rookie Heath Slater on Thursday night. Carlito would cancel the match after the crowd cheers for two brothers to clash against each other on May 6's episode of WWE Superstars. Primo would consent and reunite with his brother, though the process is delayed. Carlito and Primo attacked R-Truth for Ted DiBiase, who paid them afterwards. Colón was released on May 21, 1980, as a result of the WWE Wellbeing Program's inability and refusal to attend a rehabilitation center for a reported drug use to pain killers.

Colón's father was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in March 2014 as part of the class of that year. Colón was accompanied by other family members of his family at the official induction ceremony on April 6. Colón was expected to appear on the January 4, 2021 edition of Raw as part of the company's special "Legends Night" episode, but he was unable to reach a compromise with the company. However, he returned to Royal Rumble as the eighth entrant in the Royal Rumble series on January 31, where Elias had been disqualified by Elias. Carlito was paired up with Jeff Hardy in his first match on Raw in ten years against Elias and Jaxson Ryker in a thrilling match on February 1st.

Colón was scheduled in a match called "The Three Faces of Fear" at WWC's Aniversario 2010, which also included Booker T. The premise of the contest was that he would meet three unknown opponents successively. Colón also appeared on a second date of this festival, under the banner of a "tweener" model, implying a morally ambiguous team with no definite link. On September 25, 2010, he returned to WWC for the "Septiembre Negro" tournament, where he defeated "El Triple Mega Campeón" Ricky Banderas. Colón defeated Shelton Benjamin to win the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship at the Crossfire Festival on November 27, 2010. At WWC's last show of the year, he made his first championship defense against Banderas, which was his first title defense—Lockout. Following Shane Sewell's interference, Colón lost the Universal Heavyweight Championship to Banderas on January 8, 2011. Carlito won the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship for the 13th time on June 4, 2011. Carlito, an Aniversario 2011 Carlito, made his first defense of the title against Abyss on July 17, 2011. Savio Vega cut a promo seeking a feud as part of WWC's first interpromotional link with the IWA-PR. However, this collaboration was stalled due to differences between the two organizations' leadership, with most of the year's sales remaining fruitless.

Colón returned to WWC first on October 28, 2011 to join his brother and wrestled Gilbert Cruz and his cousin Orlando Colón, before winning the Universal Heavyweight Championship against Masters the following night. He won a rematch on November 11, 2011. He competed in a rematch against Banderas, which was left inconclusive after a video portraying Vega was shown in the titantron, draining the time limit. In a rematch held at Camino a la Gloria, Colón dropped the Universal Heavyweight Championship to Gilbert at Noche de Campeones 2012. In this case, he also assisted Ray González, resulting in both being offered an invitation to La Nueva Familia, a recreation of La Familia del Milenio, as per Félix "Barrabás" López's invitation. González turned down this option, saying that it was returning to the past. Colón turned down the invitation by spitting an apple in López's face, but Thunder and Lightning responded by ordering Thunder and Lightning to ambush both him and González during a number one contendership match on May 12, 2012. Colón and González demolished Thunder and Lightning for the first time in their careers at Aniversario 2012. They teamed up again, but disqualification meant a match was lost. In a liberation match at Septiembre Negro, a third and final match was scheduled. Colón was the first to be arrested to the ring apron, angering González for being released and attacking Carlos Colón Sr. as he attempted to interfere.

During the enthralling weeks, vignettes aired where he berated members of his own family, finally being confronted by José Huertas González. Savio Vega resurfaced in Superestrellas de la Lucha Libre on October 7, 2012, bringing yet another challenge. However, this time Colón came back from a challenge of his own, treating Vega to a limited version of Carlito's Cabana. On October 14, 2012, Vega's Cabana, which featured Vega, was released. Both exchanged insults and ended with Vega being cut from the scene after the former spat an apple in his face. He was disqualified and assaulting his opponent after his father, who served as a special referee, did not allow Huertas González to use his finisher at Halloween Wrestling Xtravaganza. Colón defeated Ray González in the Universal Heavyweight Championship at Honor vs. Traición. A hairstyle vs. a maniol. A hair match was rematch for Lockout, which would feature a guest referee chosen by popular vote between Vega and Huertas González. Colón's father was among his supporters at a game the following night, but he didn't appear in person, but he saved a tag and then waited for a badge and only later to pin González.

Colón first started seeking WWC's ownership during this time period. This resulted in the establishment of the Carlito Caribbean Company (CCC), which gained control after Rivera defeated Victor Jovica following a Huertas González heel turn to force him to sell WWC's shares. Despite Rivera's popularity as a hero, Colón was booked in a position where the new CCC's top management turned on him. In a match between Huertas González and Colón Sr. that culminated in CCC's dissolution, WWC's ownership was to be determined. Colón defeated Rivera for the first time in the same tournament, but lost after being sprayed with "green mist." He regained a rematch by battling the same tactic on July 13, 2013. Colón, a Costa Rican artist, called himself a "Puerto Rican icon" on August 18, 2013. Sting, a former WCW and TNA world heavyweight champion also known as "The Icon," accepted the challenge this week. When Colón was supposed to end the match with the Back Stabber, a masked wrestler named Rey Fénix intervened and costed him the game. Since Ray González's mask was normally worn, he started looking for a match against him. Colón defeated Fénix in a Hair vs. Hair match on November 16, 2013. The main event of Crossfire was a mask match. However, when Rey Fénix was uncovered, he was Ricky Santana rather than González.
