Life and career

Sexton, a native of Staten Island, New York, made his film debut in Todd Solondz's Welcome to the Dollhouse, portraying the obnoxious bully Brandon McCarthy, for which he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. He was the lead in Hurricane Streets and Desert Blue, as well as the cult films Empire Records and Pecker.

In a radio interview, Sexton said that the version of Black Hawk Down, which made it to theater screens, was drastically different from the one depicted in the original script. Many scenes involving real difficulties of war, the true meaning of their mission in Somalia, etc., were cut out, according to him.

In interviews, Sexton claimed that speaking out against the film resulted in him being "blacklisted" and barred him from working in major films.
