Early life

Takia was born in Bombay on April 10, 1986, to a Gujarati Hindu father and a Kashmiri Muslim mother. Natasha is her younger sister. She attended St Anthony's Girls High School in Chembur, Chembur. Farhan Azmi, son of Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, married her on March 1, 2009, with whom she has a son.

Personal life

Takia is very popular on social media, especially on Twitter, and has been a promoter of wildlife conservation. Ayesha's father-in-law, Abu Azmi, was chastised for saying that rape victims should be punished equally in April 2014. Although posing for a vegan ad for PETA India, she declared herself a vegan in a public address. After marrying, she revealed her last name as Takia Azmi on social media.

Career

Takia appeared in several commercials before beginning her career as an actress. She began modeling when she was thirteen and appeared in the I am a Complan Boy.

Shahid Kapoor and I worked together in a campaign together. Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye's first public appearance was in the music video for Falguni Pathak's song Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye. Nahin Nahin Nahin Abhi Nahin Nahin Nahin Nahin Nahin Nahin Nahin Nahin Abhi Nahin remixed later in the music video Shake It Daddy, a collaboration between actor Keith Sequeira and actress Nahin Nahin Abhi Nahin. Both the songs were directed by Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao, who attracted her to Bollywood's notice, and a few film offers followed.

Takia appeared in Abbas-Mustan's supernatural action thriller film Taarzan: The Wonder Car, alongside debutante Vatsal Sheth in 2004. The film, which was loosely based on comradey drama Christine (1983), was financially unsuccessful. However, she was lauded for her glamorous role in the film. Female (2005), Takia's portrayal received her Filmfare Best Female Debut Award (2005) and an IIFA Award for Female Debut of the Year (2005). Takia continued to act in the multi-star romantic comedy Dil Maange More! (2004). Takia's career as a hero, combative teen named Shagun earned her two awards viz. Female and Zee Cine Awards for Best Female Debut. The film was unprofitable at the box office, but it was nonetheless a success, as it helped boost Takia and Kapoor's careers.

In 2004, Takia appeared in three films. Imtiaz Ali's romantic comedy Socha Na Tha was her first release of the year. Socha Na Tha, as well as Imtiaz Ali's first film as a producer, was also responsible for Abhay Deol's debut as a director. Despite this, the film was an average grosser at the box-office and earned around 3.53 million (US$430,000) worldwide. Shaadi No. 2 is a multi-starrer comedy starring David Dhawan. An ensemble cast appeared in the film that tells the tale of three couples (Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, Sharman Joshi, Esha Deol, and Soha Ali Khan). Critics loved the film, and the box office did well. It was based on a 5 crore (US$630,000) budget, and it earned around $112 million (US$1.5 million) worldwide. She appeared in Sujoy Ghosh's comedies Home Delivery, which was also her last release of 2004. The film received critical feedback, with criticism directed at the unoriginal plot and humor, and it was underperformed at the box office. Nonetheless, Takia was praised for her work. "The other attraction of the storyline in the film, played by Ayesha Takia," the Hindu wrote.

Takia made her debut in South Indian cinema in the Telugu-language action heist Super, alongside Nagarjuna Akkineni. The film was a financial success, but the critics had mixed reactions. "Ayesha debuts in Telugu films in a glamorous role," B. Anuradha of Rediff.com wrote. "Ayesha is cool and chic," Indiaglitz wrote. Her angles and curves add a touch of glamour and keep you enraptured." Siri Valli, a doctor, received her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu at 53rd Filmfare Awards South. Robbery was also dubbed and released in Hindi as Robbery later in the film.

Takia appeared in Satish Kaushik's comedy Shaadi Se Pehle in 2006. It began with primarily critical feedback, being inspired by an old Hindi film Meri Biwi Ki Shaadi. The film, which was released on 6 April 2006, eventually underperformed at the box office grossing 16 crore (US$2.0 million) worldwide. "Ayesha Takia has little to do, and it's a shame because she's such a spontaneous actor." Rajeev Masand characterized her performance as, "Ayesha Takia has precious little to do." She appeared in Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota (2006), co-starring Konkona Sen Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Jimmy Sheirgill, Paresh Rawal, and Boman Irani. The film, which takes place in the United States, follows the lives of a group of people who will eventually become interwind with 9/11. Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota Hota earned little at the box office and received mixed feedback.

In Nagesh Kukunoor's drama Dor, the actress played a Rajasthani Hindu woman later this year. The film also stars Gul Panag and Shul Talpade as the lead actors. The film, which is an official Malayalam film, Perumazhakhakam (2004), tells the tale of a widow woman. It did a good job commercially. "Apart from the unusual plot, it is Ayesha Takia who simply blows your breath away," The Times of India cited, "Apart from the extraordinary plot."

Takia has appeared in a number of films that did not do well at the box office. However, she has been lauded for her role in the 2006 Dor, a smaller budget film in which she plays a young widowed Rajasthani woman living in a traditional joint family. She went on to win numerous accolades for her role in the film, including the Zee Cine Critics Award for Best Actress.

Takia has also appeared in the 2005 Telugu film Super, starring Tollywood actress Nagarjuna, for which she was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu. Prabhu Deva's Wanted, co-starring Salman Khan, was one of the 2009 biggest blockbuster hits. The film was the third-highest grossing movie of the year, and positive feedback accompanied it.

In 2011, she appeared in Mod, which received a positive response. Sur Kshetra's only season of musical-reality television show Sur Kshetra premiered in 2012.
