Aurélien Collin (French pronunciation: [oelj]; born 8 March 1986) is a French former professional footballer who played as a defender. He spent the majority of his time in Major League Soccer.

Personal life

Collin started studying for an online degree in fashion design while playing for Sporting Kansas City. "I was young and following the best designers and going to fashion shows," he explained. "I read the fashion magazines every day." I adore it. It's one of my passions. I have a lot of projects on my mind. I've learned a lot of stuff here. However, I must research first to be the best so I can properly begin my projects." Collin was a fan favorite at Sporting Kansas City, giving his game-worn jersey to a fan after every home game.

Career

Collin began his career with Sedan's youth team in 2004 and stayed with the club until joining Amiens a year later. He left for Spain in 2007, climbing Mallorca's youth ranks.

Collin joined Gretna, a La Liga club Mallorca, in August 2007, winning international permission to play for the club on August 14th. He has been with the club for two years. In a 1–1 draw with Hearts on August 18, he made his club debut. In a 4–0 loss against Rangers on September 1, 2007, he scored his own goal.

Collin spent a week on trial with English Championship club Blackpool, as well as Preston North End and Wolverham Wanderers, following his release from Gretna. However, no of these trials resulted in a permanent contract. He then signed a one-year deal with Greek club Panserraikos.

Collin joined Wrexham on a one-year deal before the season's end, making his debut in a 0–0 draw with Ebbsfleet United on February 5th. On August 5, 2009, he joined Vitoria Setubal in Portugal on a free transfer and a two-year contract. In a 2–2 draw with Vitória Guimares on January 16, he scored his first goal for Vitoria in 2010. Collin was involved in 37 games and scored five goals while on the Portuguese side, but not on the Portuguese team.

Collin signed a Major League Soccer contract on April 15, 2011. Collin's first season in Kansas City, he established himself as a starter, alongside Matt Besler. He was instrumental in winning the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for Kansas City. Collin scored the game tying goal in the 2013 Major League Soccer Cup Final on December 7, 2013, rifling home a header from a Graham Zusi corner kick against Real Salt Lake. Sporting Kansas City defeated the tournament on penalties to claim the trophy, earning him the 2013 MLS Cup MVP. Collin played in 5 games and scored three goals during the club's championship run.

Collin was transferred from Sporting Kansas City to Orlando City, SC, for allocation funds and defender Jalil Anibaba on December 8, 2014. On his debut against New York City FC, Collin was suspended for a challenge brought on David Villa. In his first season with the club, he played in 28 league games, scoring two goals.

The New York Red Bulls acquired Collin from Orlando on April 29, 2016. He made his club debut in a 1–1 draw against his former club Orlando City SC on May 6, 2016. He led his new team to consecutive shutout victories, including a 7-0 win over New York City FC on May 21.

Collin was cut by the Red Bulls at the end of the 2018 season. Collin had joined the Philadelphia Union on January 22, 2019. Collin's deal with Philadelphia came to an end at the end of the 2020 season. Nevertheless, he re-signed for the club ahead of the 2021 season. Collin's employment choice was rejected by Philadelphia during the 2021 season. Collin announced his retirement from football on March 24th, 2022.
