Club career

Herrera began his soccer career at Monagas SC before moving to Atlético Venezuela in 2016.

Herrera had signed for Manchester City on January 31, 2017. Herrera was immediately transported to New York City on a two-year loan. In a 4–0 victory over D.C. United, he made his debut on March 12 as a replacement in a 4–0 victory.

Herrera was loaned to Huesca in the last six months of the 2018–19 season following the conclusion of his two-year stay in New York City.

Herrera was loaned to Granada for the 2019-20 season on July 26, 2019. His loan was extended for the 2020–21 season on August 30, 2020.

Herrera transferred to Espanyol, a La Liga team, on a one-year loan contract from August 31.

Herrera joined Girona's newly promoted side on a season-long loan on August 2, 2022.

International career

Herrera made his international debut for the Venezuela national team on October tenth, coming as a replacement in a 2–0 loss to Brazil.

Herrera was named captain of the Venezuela U20 team for the 2017 U-20 World Cup. In the 108th minute of their Round of 16 victory over Japan, he scored his first goal.
