Vanessa Dale Sterling, the CBS daytime soap opera Love of Life's Vanessa Dale Sterling, was best known for her 21-year tenure. Peters was the third actress to play the role (after daytime veteran Peggy McCay and actress Bonnie Bartlett), but she became the actress most recognizable with the role. Vanessa's career came to an end in 1980, when the show was cancelled.

She appeared on another CBS soap, Guiding Light, seven years later. Peters was on contract with the show for four years, and he returned for Christmas episodes in 1993. Sarah was born in 1997 (offscreen), but Peters made several appearances before the show's conclusion in 2009, when Sarah's spirit would guide Reva through times of crisis.

Peters made several other appearances on daytime television, including brief appearances on Search for Tomorrow, Loving, and All My Children. Peters appeared in many Broadway plays early in her career. She was a dancer on The Toast of the Town before she was forced to stop dancing due to a back injury.

Peters died in Los Angeles, California, on August 2, 2019.
