Asser Ashraf Fouad Yassin (born February 25, 1981) is an Egyptian actor, writer, and film director.

For several of his creations, he has been named Best Actor for several of his performances.

Yassin began his career on the stage of the American University in Cairo, where he was invited by director Khairy Beshara to appear in his first role on television in Qalb Habiba in 2006 and then the block buster The Yacoubian Building in 2007.

Zay El Naharda (2008), his first major film release, where he was recognized for his service in portraying the role of a drug addict.

Yassin appeared in the film "El Waad" a.k.a.a. a.a. The Promise, starring Mahmoud Yassin, a legendary actor and super star.

Yassin appeared in a Daoud Abdel Sayed film Messages from the Sea, in which he was named Best Actor at the Carthage Film Festival and Malmö Arab Film Festival.

The Tetouan International Film Festival has also named Aswar El Qamar (2015) as the best actor for his latest film release.

Early life

Yassin studied engineering at university, but family members begged him to stand in for an absent actor in a university play. As a result, he decided to take a theater class and perform in more productions.

Yassin spent time as an engineering teaching assistant at the American University in Cairo before deciding to abandon a flourishing career in engineering and academia to pursue his passion for acting.

Personal life

Yassin is the oldest of two boys. Both his parents are engineers. Yassin is a single mother with three children.

Yassin appeared in the controversial and lauded Beit Men Lahm (House of Flesh), based on Yusuf Idris' Arabic novel and directed by Rami A. Jabbar. Khairy Beshara, the director, gave him a role in Qalb Habiba, the TV series that marked Soheir El-Bably's return to form. His debut cinematic role was followed by small roles in The Yacoubian Building and Halim, just short of this.

In Aala Ganb Yasta, Yassin appeared in supporting roles such as "Marei," the villain brother of Ashraf Abdel Baqi, and Mo, the drug addict in Zay El Naharda. In the action film Al Waad or The Promise, written by Waheed Hamid and directed by Mohamed Yassin, his first leading role was alongside Mahmoud Yassin.

Yassin's turning point was his leading role in Messages from the Sea, written and directed by Daoud Abdel Sayed.

Rags and Tatters (2013) was Yassin's first co-production experience when he worked with Film Clinic and Graal on a film about Egypt's poorest residents and their living conditions after the Jan 25 revolution. Although Yassin was primarily silent, he also played a leading role. At the Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival, Golden Antigone was selected and honored at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, Munich Film Festival, and Thessaloniki Film Festival, and the Montpellier Film Festival were both honoured.

In 2015, Yassin was named best actor at the Tetouan International Film Festival for his latest film, Aswar El Qamar.

Al-Arab's upcoming film "Venous" (Arabic: ) starring Yassin with Egyptian actor and singer Ruby in August 2021.
