Ari Millen (born January 19, 1982) is a Canadian actor.

He is best known for his role in the Space and BBC America science fiction television series Orphan Black (2014–2017), for which he received a Canadian Screen Award in 2016.

Early life

Millen was born in Kingston, Ontario. He wanted to play in the National Hockey League as an infant, but a friend of a friend suggested him a small play but he instead went into performing arts. He spent his Ontario Academic Credit year studying theatre in secondary school at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute. He later attended Ryerson University's Theatre School and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Career

Millen joined a talent agency in his fourth year of university, and one of his first appearances was in a 2008 episode of ReGenesis. He appeared in a Halifax production of Vern Thiessen's play Vimy in September 2008, and in December 2008 he appeared in The Veil, a play directed by Shahin Sayadi. The Veil opened in Halifax before relocating to Iran in January 2009, where the performance was presented in the Fajr International Theater Festival in Tehran. Millen appeared in a number of small roles in television series Nikita, Rookie Blue, and State of Syn, as well as horror films Monster Brawl and Exit Humanity from 2010 to 2013.

After two failed auditions during the show's first season, he successfully auditioned for a role on the second season of the science fiction series Orphan Black in August 2013. In October 2013, it was revealed that Mark had been cast in the role. He spent six months filming Orphan Black's second season, which aired in 2014, and returned in 2015 for its third season. He now has several parts on the show, having been promoted to the main cast. Millen would be back for season four at PaleyFest on October 18, 2015. In 2014, he made a return to Reign as a guest.

Millen received a Canadian Screen Award for his film Orphan Black in 2016.
