Zachary Michael "Zach" Gilford (born January 14, 1982) is an American actor best known for his role as Matt Saracen on NBC Sports drama Friday Night Lights.

Early life and education

Gilford, the son of Anne and Steve Gilford, was born in Evanston, Illinois. His mother is Lutheran and his father is Jewish. He graduated from Evanston Township High School and Northwestern University. He served as a trip leader for Adventures Cross-Country and has led wilderness and adventure trips for children in Alaska, British Columbia, Hawaii, and the South Pacific. Gilford spent time as a Fremont, Michigan staff member for YMCA Camp Echo.

Personal life

In the spring of 2010, Gilford began dating actress Kiele Sanchez, whom he encountered on the set of the television pilot for The Matadors. The couple got engaged in November 2011 and married on December 29, 2012. In The Purge: Anarchy, the couple also appeared. Sanchez revealed in August 2015 that she and Gilford were expecting a son in November. Sanchez had suffered a late-term miscarriage in October 2015. The couple have one child, who was born in November 2017 via survivacy.

He appeared in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2005. Gilford appeared in Friday Night Lights in which he appeared as Matt Saracen in the main cast from Season 1 to Season 3. Gilford was added to the recurring cast of Seasons 4 and 5. He made his feature film debut in The Last Winter (2006) while co-starring. In an episode of Grey's Anatomy, he appeared in Rise: Blood Hunter and guest starred.

He co-starred Adam Davies in the romantic comedy Post Grad opposite Alexis Bledel in 2009. Johnny Drake appeared in the romantic drama Dare opposite Emmy Rossum. He appeared in The River Why, an indie drama film starring Amber Heard in 2010. In the film Superman, he appeared in a cameo.

Off The Map, ABC's medical drama, debuted in 2010, but after 13 episodes, he was canceled. In 2011, he appeared in Taylor Swift's "We's" music video, in which he played her love interest. In the drama film Answers to Nothing, he played Evan. Seth appeared in In Our Nature, a comedy drama film starring Jena Malone in 2012.

He was cast in another medical drama, The Mob Doctor, on Fox, opposite Jordana Spiro; however, the show was also cancelled after 13 episodes. In January 2013, he appeared alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand. In the film Crazy Kind of Love, Matthew Iris appeared.

He co-starred with Allison Miller in the horror film Devil's Due (2014), which was shot in New Orleans and the Dominican Republic and published on January 17, 2014. He appeared in the film sequel The Purge: Anarchy, which was also released on July 18, 2014. He guest appeared on shows such as Drunk History, Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories, and Kingdom. Danny Warren appeared in ABC's drama series The Family in 2016. In the YouTube Red futuristic web series Lifeline, Gilford starred as Conner Hooks in 2017.

Since 2018, Gilford has appeared in NBC's Good Girls as Gregg. Gilford appeared in the Bad Boys spinoff drama L.A.'s Finest in 2019. In 2021, Zach played a leading role in Midnight Massacre.
