Career
He replied to a newspaper advertisement for a singer in 1985, during a period in which he was selling women's shoes and was playing in a band called the Void. Vince Clarke had been Bell's "hero" at his audition; Bell was a hit in his audition and joined the group Erasure;
Bell performed Montresor in the opera The Fall of the House of Usher by Peter Hammill and Judge Smith, 1991, but a new recording was released in 1999.
Bell's first solo album was released in July 2005. He has signed a worldwide solo recording deal with Sanctuary Records, and he's reveals the full details of his debut album, which was titled Electric Blue on October 3, 2005. Claudia Brücken of Propaganda and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters performed fourteen tracks on the album, including three duets.
The first single, "Crazy," was released on September 26, 2005, featured club remixes from Vince Clarke's Erasure partner Vince Clarke, plus Cicada, MHC, and King Roc. Electric Blue was co-written and recorded with Manhattan Clique (Philip Larsen and Chris Smith), who have performed with Erasure, Moby, the B-52s, Stereophonics, and Goldfrapp.
Bell's second solo album, Non-Stop, was released on June 7, 2010. Bell and Pascal Gabriel, who had previously remixed "It Doesn't Have to Be" for Erasure, co-written and co-produced it. It also stars Perry Farrell in a match.
Bell released two Pascal Gabriel-produced singles on Mute Records: "Running Out" (2009) and "Will You Be There?" using the pseudonym Mimó. Prior to his second solo album, (2010), he performed ten years ago. The name, which was used as a "thanks to good friend Tomeau Mimó," was not used on any subsequent solo debuts, as a court block was issued against Bell by another artist already using the Mimó symbol. Both songs appear on Non-Stop and have since been rebranded as Andy Bell.
He appeared on the second season of the ITV series Popstar to Operastar in June 2011 and finished fifth in fifth place.
