Early life
Hales was born in Ithaca, New York, on May 20, 1990, in a Mormon family, but the faith is no longer practiced. His father, a pharmaceutical salesman, moved his family from New York to New Hampshire and then to Bountiful, Utah. Despite growing up in various places, he calls Utah his home state. He attended Brookfield High School for a large portion of his life, and graduated from the 2008 Brookfield High School class of 2008 before heading to Utah Valley University for three years.
