Anders Rozenkrantz Lindegaard (born 13 April 1984) is a Danish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Helsingborg's IF.

He has earned five caps for the Denmark national team. Lindegaard began his football career with Odense Boldklub in hometown, but a lack of first-team opportunities led to a transfer to Norwegian club Aalesund in 2009, where he won the Norwegian Football Cup.

Lindegaard was signed by Manchester United, where he spent five years as a back-up to Edwin van der Sar and David de Gea after winning the Goalkeeper of the Year award in both Denmark and Norway in 2010.

Anders Lindegaard Career

Club career

Lindegaard, a native of Odense, began his career with local Danish Superliga team Odense Boldklub (OB). In a 3–1 win over Silkeborg IF on November 19, 2006, he made his Danish Superliga debut. In a 4–3 victory over Rabotniki on July 30, he made his UEFA debut on his debut in the UEFA competition. During the majority of his time with OB, he was kept out of the team by Arek Onyszko, and he had two loan spells with Kolding FC, where he remained undefeated in the team's first four games of the season, as well as Aalesunds FK, who would later return to the team. Onyszko was fired by Odense in June 2009 due to his ex-wife's assault, Lindegaard was hired as his replacement.

He joined Aalesunds FK on loan and later permanently. He won the Norwegian Football Cup with Aalesund in 2009. Lindegaard was named Goalkeeper of the Year in both Norway and Denmark in 2010.

He was reported to have been a target for English club Manchester United in early November 2010. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to finish the player's transfer in the "next two or three weeks," according to a tweeter on November 23, 2010. Lindegaard joined Manchester United on a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee that was believed to be about £3.5 million on November 27, 2010. He trained with the first team in December but was unable to play for his new club until the transfer window was re-opened on January 1st 2011. Lindegaard was officially registered in the Premier League on January 6 and under the number 34 jersey.

Lindegaard won by 2–1 over Southampton in the FA Cup Fourth Round on January 29th. He made his Old Trafford home debut on February 19th in another FA Cup match against Crawley Town, this time against the Conference National side, who beat United 1–0. He underwent knee surgery in March, which would keep him out of action for five weeks.

Lindegaard appeared in the Manchester Senior Cup final against Bolton Wanderers Reserves on May 16th, which United gained 3–1.

Lindegaard made his first UEFA Champions League appearance for United against Portuguese side Benfica on September 14th. Lindegaard earned critical praise for his efforts during the match, despite losing 1–1 draw. Sir Alex Ferguson, on the other hand, has chosen first-choice keeper David de Gea for the next match in the Premier League against Chelsea. "What answer do you expect to hear when asking for the first-team position?" Lindegaard said when asked about competing for the first-team spot. I've said a thousand times before, but I'm not here to pick my nose." Lindegaard was given his second Champions League debut for United on October 18th. He was playing against Oţelul Galaţi, with the match deciding in a 2–0 win for United, earning them their first Champions League group stage victory.

Lindegaard scored 2–0 victory over Old Trafford on October 1, 2011, his Premier League debut for the club. In his next four appearances in the Premier League, he continued his streak of clean sheets, including a 1–0 home win over Sunderland on November 5th, a 1–0 away win over Aston Villa on December 3rd, a 5–0 home win over Wigan Athletic in United's Boxing day fixture. After losing 3–0 in a game that United lost 3–0, his streak of clean sheets in the league came to an end on January 4th. Lindegaard's best game for Manchester United so far this season came on Monday, a 3–2 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup. He was picked again for the starting lineup of United's 3–0 victory over Bolton Wanderers the following week. Ben Amos, a youngster, and the unwell first-choice David de Gea missed the game against Stoke City on January 30, 2012, causing him to miss the game against Stoke City the next day. Lindegaard will miss the next four to five weeks, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, who will not be expected back until the home game with West Bromwich Albion.

Lindegaard signed a new four-year deal with United on August 3, 2012, extending his stay at the club until June 2016. He also left the number 13 jersey unoccupied following Park Ji-sung's departure from the club for Queens Park Rangers.

Since the game against Norwich on November 17th, 2012, first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea was sidelined with wisdom teeth issues. Lindegaard was held in place for United's next five games until De Gea was called to De Gea for the Champions League match against CFR Cluj. Lindegaard returned to the first squad against Reading on December 1, 2012, a match that ended 4–3. He came out for criticism by former United goalkeeper Alex Stepney, who said that he lacked "authority at the back" after the match. Lindegaard started on goal for Sir Alex Ferguson's last game as United boss against West Brom at The Hawthorns after a long time on the bench as an understudy to De Gea, and with United having already secured the Premier League crown a month earlier, the match ended 5–5. Lindegaard's appearance was his tenth of the season, thus qualifying him for a Premier League champion's medal.

Lindegaard made just three appearances for the Manchester United first team in 2013–14, against Norwich in the League Cup, Swansea City in the FA Cup, and Newcastle in the Premier League, keeping clean sheets against Norwich and Newcastle.

Lindegaard joined West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal on August 31, 2015.

Lindegaard joined Preston North End on loan for the remainder of the 2015–16 season on January 23, 2016. He made his debut against Derby County on February 2nd, where he held a clean sheet against Derby County. On his home debut against Huddersfield Town, he was named Man of the Match.

After the mutual termination of his West Brom contract, Lindegaard signed a one-year permanent deal with Preston North End on July 2nd.

Lindegaard joined Burnley on a free transfer on September 21, 2017. During the Europa League second qualifying round on July 26, 2018, he made his Burnley debut as a substitute for the injured Nick Pope. His deal was not renewed after making another Europa League appearance against Aberdeen, and the club was cut from the team.

Lindegaard signed for Helsingborgs IF until December 2021, on July 18, 2019. In a 2–2 draw against Falkenbergs FF on July 19, he scored his first goal of his career.

International career

Lindegaard has worked for Denmark at the under-19, under-20, and senior levels. He made his U-19 debut in September 2002 and defeated Switzerland 1–0 on October 13, 2002 in UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship qualifying, which was held in September 2002. He appeared in six youth international tournaments before September 2003.

Lindegaard made his international debut against Iceland on September 7, 2010, which Denmark defeated Iceland 1–0. Denmark defeated Portugal in another Euro 2012 qualifier on October 8, 2010. With Denmark trailing 2–0, Lindegaard came out early in the game, with the starter goalkeeper Thomas Sneen taking the field. He made several saves to keep his team in the game, but in the 85th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo conceded a goal, resulting in the game winning 3–1 in Portugal's favor. Lindegaard began his Euro 2012 qualifier against Cyprus in which he kept a clean sheet as Denmark defeated 2–0. He had been expected to play for Denmark in the Euro 2012 finals but due to injuries while playing for his club and a lack of adequate game time post-recovery, Stephan Andersen, his national teammate, took over after normal second-choice goalkeeper Thomas Srensen was injured in a pre-tournament friendly against Brazil.
