Since being the first casualty of 'optical illusion' cycle lane, a pensioner was left bloodied

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 28, 2023
After becoming the first casualty of an 'optical illusion' cycle lane, which has seen almost 60 people injured in the last year, a pensioner was left bloodied and bruised. On Thursday, Dave Dawson (right), 76, was strolling up the high street in Keynsham, Somerset, when he stepped off the curb's edge, causing pain to his hands and knees. On Wednesday, it was revealed that 59 people had been injured on Keynsham High Street, where the cycle lane was first installed last year after nine months of service. Cyclists have attributed the grey kerbs' appearance on one side and the white painted lines on the other for making the path appear level, catching them out. Mr Dawson, a retired pedestrian, was the first victim on today's list of those injured after he was seen tripping over the curb (left) before being helped up.
