Ariel Aquino Muhlach (Tagalog pronunciation: ['mulax]) is a Filipino actor and product promoter who appeared in May Isang Tsuchi and the 1976 film Babay Sa Asawa, but he only became well-known (under his new screen name "Aga Muhlach") after which he became a well-known matinee idol.

He ran for a 2013 congressional seat in Bicol but lost by almost 3,000 votes. Muhlach announced in October 2015 that he has returned to ABS-CBN after more than three years with TV5.

He is a devoted follower of Rodrigo Duterte's Philippine Drug War.

Early life

Aga Muhlacha was born at 2:30 p.m. on August 12, 1969, at the Galang Maternity Clinic in Santa Cruz, Philippines, to lvaro Amador Muhlach (Jan. 16, 1944-May 12, 2018) and Anita Adis Aquino (May 26, 1949-Nov. 18, 2007). He is one of nine children, three sisters Arlene, Almira, and Andrea; five brothers AJ, Andrew, Anton, Aaron, and Albert. He attended Aquinas High School in San Juan City and then enrolled in San Beda College to study Commerce. When he concentrated on his acting work, he stopped studying.

Muhlach comes from a well-known show business family. His father is younger brother of former dramatic actress Amalia Fuentes; his uncle, Nio Muhlach, was the leading children actor of the 1970s; his brother, AJ Muhlach, was also an actor.

His family has Spanish (Asturian), German, and Chinese roots. His paternal grandfather, lvaro Muhlach Agüera, was born in Barcelona, Spain, to Alejandro Muhlach Agüera and Enriqueta Agüera Iglesias, both in Cantabria, but their ancestry comes from Asturias. Concepción Borja Amador, his paternal grandmother, was born in Xiamen, China, to a Chinese father and a Bicolano mother from Goa, Camarines Surrection.

In the 1975 film, May Isang Tsuper ng Taksi and 1976 film, Babay Sa Asawa, he began his career as a child actor; his aunt, Amalia Fuentes, was the lead in the second film. He was still using his real name in the credits at this point. Fernando Poe Jr. and Christopher de Leon appeared in the 1980 film Aguila, which also starred Fernando Poe Jr. and Christopher de Leon.

In Viva Entertainment's 1984 film Bagets, Muhlach was cast as one of the male leads. William Martinez, Herbert Bautista, JC Bonnin, and Raymond Lauchengco appeared in the film, which depicts daily life in the 1980s. The film was a hit, and Muhlach became a well-known matinee idol, as the majority of the target audience could relate to it.

As a result of his fame, he was cast in Ang Batang Rebelde's prestigious role, in which he played a rebellious teenager in a conflict with his mother. In the Gawad Urian Awards, he was nominated for "Best Support Actor" in the FAMAS Awards and "Best Actor."
