Faruk Koca erupted after his team MKE Ankara conceded a late equalizer against Caykur Rizespor, resulting in a 1-1 draw. He launched the brutal assault, striking Umut Meler in the chest and knocking him to the ground, where he had also been kicked. Meler said that Koca threatened to murder him and his coworkers, according to state-owned Anadolu news agency, though Koca denied ever touching the official, despite a shocking video clip and photographs proving otherwise. On Tuesday, Koca and two other suspects were arrested in connection with 'injuring and attacking a public official,' a big embarrassment for the president. According to online reports, the Ankara native has been president of MKE Ankara since 2021, but his public persona goes back further than that.

As he awaits a verdict, Turkish football club president Defends himself, saying 'I only meant to SPIT in his face' and that the official'threw himself to the ground' while waiting for a hearing

Faruk Koca, the president of MKE Ankara, has issued an extraordinary defense of his on-pitch assault on referee Halil Umut Meler by arguing he only meant to spit in the official's face. After watching Koca's fist connecting with Meler's cheek underneath his left eye in the Turkish Super Lig on Monday night, a shocking picture of him appeared. Meler was knocked to the ground, with others immediately throwing him with a series of kicks as he curled up on the grass covering his face.

As he was being kicked on the ground, the Turkish football president screamed "I will kill you," the victim says. Since the 97th-minute penalty cost them victory, the club's president admitted he went "goof."

Since his team lost 1-1 against Caykur Rizespor in the Super Lig, MKE Ankara Koca unleashed a brutal assault on referee Halil Umut Meler. Koca's fist is seen under Meler's cheek under his left eye, exposing the official to the ground, according to shocking photos of the on-pitch sucker punch bringing the official to the ground. As he curled up on the grass covering his face, some people leapt onto him with a series of kicks. Koca appeared to be incensed by Meler's 97th-minute penalty kick, which allowed visiting Caykur Rizespor to leave the capital with the draw. The 37-year-old match official was seen standing minutes later with a black eye that had swollened up the left portion of his face. After being rushed to the hospital, he released a statement saying that Koca had endangered his life.
