Adam Young Life

Owl City, an American electronica project launched in Owatonna, Minnesota, in 2007, it is one of many projects by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Adam Young.

Young created the scheme when playing with music in his parents' basement.

Owl City, like many musicians who made it to the late 2000s, began to flourish on social networking website MySpace before deciding with Universal Republic Records, now Republic Records, in 2008. Owl City became well-known with the 2009 major label debut album Ocean Eyes, which also includes the six-time Platinum single "Fireflies."

In April 2010, the album was named Platinum in the United States. Owl City's third studio album, All Things Bright and Beautiful, was released in June 2011, which was followed by The Midsummer Station in August 2012.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Wreck-It Ralph, The Croods, and The Smurfs 2 are among the animated films that have been recorded by Owl City.

Numerous charting singles have been released by Owl City, including "Good Time" and "Fireflies."

2007-2009: Early Years, Of June, And Now I'm Dreaming.

Adam Young, who was suffering from insomnia while loading Coca-Cola trucks, began to compose music and recording with a C-1 Behringer Microphone. Reason from Propellerhead was one of his first applications. He started posting songs from his parents' basement to Myspace. He began to receive praise for his music and then went out of his way to bolster this burgeoning fanbase by being a transparent and accessible web presence, responding to any messages he received and posting blogs. He has attributed the name Owl City to either his sister's pet owl that got loose in her church, or the 1962 short film An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. "People seem to know him because of how he approaches his online interactions," Young's manager Steve Bursky later stressed the importance of his online presence in his success. He began releasing the songs on iTunes as a result of a partnership with the digital aggregator CD Baby. Of June was the first EP released by Owl City in 2007, followed by the 2008 release of the album Perhaps I'm Dreaming. Of June, the No. 1 in the United States reached No. 78. The Billboard Electronic Albums chart has a 15th place, with Maybe I'm Dreaming debuting on the same chart at No. 1. 13.

The viral phenomenon that was spreading on Myspace attracted Universal Republic presidents Avery and Monte Lipman, who approached Young with the intention of signing the artist. Founded in late 2008, Republic recommended Young Partner Steve Bursky of Foundations Artist Management, 27-year-old boss Steve Bursky, and the two were able to work together. Bursky said that when HitQuarters asked why the label selected him for a big label act despite his relative inexperience, the company said it was because of his relative inexperience.

In February 2009, Owl City's label agreement with the Universal Republic was finally confirmed. "They were able to bring him into the studio with big producers and polish him up to try to become something he wasn't," Bursky said. We put our foot down and said, 'Look, the reason you signed this kid is because it's working.' Whatever it is about him — his music, his friendship with his followers, and his brilliance in the online space — these are all interconnected, and as soon as you lose what's special about this artist.' They listened and understood it," to their credit.

Following on July 28, 2009, Ocean Eyes, Owl City's big label debut, was announced on iTunes on July 14, 2009, with the physical release following. At No. 1 on the charts, the album debuted at No. 1. On the Billboard 200, there are 27. "Umbrella Beach," "Vivanilla Twilight," and "Fireflies" were three singles from Owl City's album "Fireflies." The US and Canadian charts topped "Fiestlies" for the first time. Ocean Eyes made it to the top ten on the US album charts, dominated the US electronic charts, and also hit Amazon MP3's top ten most downloaded album list. In the United States, it had been rated Platinum in April 2010. Owl City debuted on January 24, 2010 as the No. 10 in the United States. "Fireflies" has landed No. 1 on the UK Top 40 Singles chart, securing a 1st place in the UK Top 40 Singles chart. On Christian music radio stations, the album "Tidal Wave" received significant airplay. "Fireflies" was the 20th most downloaded song of all time in the United Kingdom on January 2, 2011.

Breanne Düren joined Young on several tracks; the most notable of which is "The Saltwater Room" is one. Breanne Düren (background vocals/keyboards), Matthew Decker (drums), Laura Musten (violin), Hannah Schroeder (cello), and Daniel Jorgensen (vibes) are among Owl City's live band members. Matt Thiessen, a retired singer from the United Kingdom, has toured and collaborated with Owl City on numerous projects, including "Fireflies," in which Thiessen can be heard providing the backup vocals. "Terminals" by Relient K's was also produced by the young.

Tapulous' "Fireflies" was included as a free download on the game Tap Tap Revenge 3. Steve Hoover was hired as a director on a music video for "Fireflies" prior to the Internet debut of Ocean Eyes and the "Fireflies" single on July 14, 2009. The video was supposed to have premiere on MySpace, but it had been leaked into YouTube and Dailymotion just hours before. For the week ending November 7, 2009, "Fireflies" became a big sleeper hit, peaking the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

"Sunburn," Owl City's song, was released on October 13, 2009, has been featured on Soundtrack 90210. The Scene Aesthetic, Lights, John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Brooke Waggoner have all been touring Owl City. He appeared on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland with a song titled "The Technicolor Phase" that had already appeared on his debut album.

Young's latest artistic project, Sky Sailing, deviated from his usual electronica style of music and introduced acoustic guitar and piano accompaniments to his performances in 2010. Before starting to make music as Owl City, the unrefined tracks were recorded in the summer of 2006. An Airplane Carried Me to Bed, his first album under this new scheme, was published on iTunes on July 13, 2010.

Young collaborated with British electronic composer, producer, guitarist, and composer Nick Bracegirdle in May 2010. Bracegirdle unveiled the single "Middledistancerunner" on August 1, 2010, with Adam Young on vocals. This is the first single from the fourth Chicane album Giants. Armin van Buuren, a respected Dutch artiste, appeared on a track called 'Youtopia' from the van Buuren album Mirage. "To the Sky" was released on iTunes on the soundtrack for Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole, released in September. Young's website featured a cover version of the praise and worship album "In Christ Alone" on his website on October 25, 2010.

Taylor Swift's song "Enchanted," which was announced on October 25, 2010, was estimated to be about the time she met Adam Young. Young began his rendition of "Enchanted" as a response, altering the lyrics to specifically mention Swift. The recording was posted on his website on Valentine's Day, 2011.

Flight, one of his other musical projects, was released on iTunes in November 2010. During the month, a new Christmas single called "Peppermint Winter" was also released.

Young's third studio album was released in mid-2010, with Young being announced as the executive producer of the project. Young wrote an article on his website describing his third studio album on October 18, claiming that the album was nearing completion.

In February 2011, All Things Bright and Beautiful was announced, and that the album would be released on May 17. Young, on the other hand, released a statement on his website on Monday, as well as long previews of four of his songs ("Dreams Don't Turn to Dust," "Alligator Sky Featuring Shawn Chrystopher," "Galaxies"), and "Deer in the Headlights") that the launch date for All Things Bright and Beautiful will be postponed to June 14.

On iTunes, "Alligator Sky" was the album's lead single. Tickets for the All Things Bright and Beautiful World Tour went on sale later this month and in early April, and All Things Bright and Beautiful became available for preorder. "Galaxies" will be the album's second single.

On May 6, the music video for "Alligator Sky" will be released. In a making-of video posted on Owl City's VEVO account, Young discussed the concept. "The idea is essentially about these two guys who are leaving Earth." Rather than this bleak post-apocalyptic vibe, it's more hopeful, and as a result, people are excited to leave the earth."

On May 23, "Deer in the Headlights," the album's third single, was released on iTunes. All Things Bright and Beautiful was released on iTunes in June of this year. Despite the fact that the album was only released a few days before May 20, almost all of it was leaked on the internet. "Deer in the Headlights" was released as a music video. Young is shown on the evening in a recreation of the DMC DeLorean from the Back to the Future trilogy. Lights, a Canadian singer, also appears in the video.

On July 19, "Lonely Lullaby" was released as a single on iTunes, which had previously only belonged to Owl City Galaxy members. Young was profiled in the Cliché Magazine's August issue. He also appeared on the front page of the magazine, and the issue also featured some of Young's finest works. Young revealed that the concert was being shot for a Live DVD later this month at the Club Nokia concert in Los Angeles. In November 2011, the album was finally released on iTunes.

Jumeirah unveiled a commercial for their opulent Burj Al Arab luxury hotel on November 15, 2011. Young was expected to compose the commercial's music.

He performed a new song titled "I Hope You Think of Me" in Young's final tour dates of 2011. Young wrote an article on his blog on January 2, 2012, addressing his fourth full-length album. Young said that he would be collaborating with more producers and writers, as his latest album, "Marks a flying leap in this direction." Around late summer to Fall 2012, Young predicted that the album would be released sometime in the summer or fall. Young said in a Billboard interview that the new album is 85 percent complete, and that Dr. Luke, JR Rotem, Norwegian production team Stargate, Brian Kennedy, and Emily Wright are involved with the album's development. He was also uncertain if "I Hope You Think of Me" would make it to the final track listing.

Young, as well as Jewel and Jay Sean, performed a song titled "Here's Hope" in support of ConAgra Foods' Child Hunger Ends Here campaign. "Dementia," a Young song that was supposed to be included on his forthcoming album, leaked into the internet on April 17, 2012. Mark Hoppus of Blink-182's addition vocals to the song.

Young announced that a new EP, Shooting Star, would be released on May 15 and would feature four songs from his forthcoming album, so that fans would have a clear idea of what the song will be like. Young revealed on Twitter on May 24, 2012 that Owl City's fourth studio album, The Midsummer Station, would be released on August 14, 2012, worldwide, except in the United Kingdom, where it will be announced on September 17, 2012. Young announced on June 21, 2012, that the album's release date would be postponed to August 21, 2012, but that the UK release date will remain unchanged. Young revealed on Twitter that he will be collaborating with Carly Rae Jepsen on a new album and he said it would be announced on June 26, 2012. Via his SoundCloud page, he announced "Good Time" on June 20, 2012. On June 26, 2012, the album was released on iTunes. "It's only makes sense that he's joined by Jepsen [on] a track that might become a radio staple for the remainder of the summer," and Entertainment Weekly's "Good Time" goes down quicker than a frozen margarita at a beachfront tiki bar, with generally favorable feedback." Matt Thiessen, Brian Lee, and Young himself wrote "Good Time." The album debuted at No. 1 in the United States. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and later peaked at No. 1 and then soared to No. 184. Universal Republic Records subsidiary Universal Republic Records would be shut down in mid-2012, with the brand's entire roster being moved to Republic Records; as a result, all future Owl City content will be published on Republic Records.

Adam Young published a cover of the Art Garfunkel song "Bright Eyes" from the film Watership Down and posted it on his SoundCloud page in December 2012; he's previously cited Watership Down as one of his favorite books; "Probably the book that is most inspiring is a Richard Adams book Watership Down." It's from the late 1970s, about talking rabbits, and it's a very grounded-in-reality book. This isn't a kid's book, but it does have to do with these talking rabbits and their adventures, and there are a lot of metaphors and nutty stuff. And that's always been a very inspiring thing. If ever I'm feeling bloated, or going through writer's block or something, I'm like 'Whoa, I have to go make music!'"

Despite such rumors, Owl City did not produce a complete studio album in 2013. Young said in January 2013 that his latest album would have more EDM songs than his previous studio efforts. He wanted to record a song for the album with Ellie Goulding and promised that his new album would be "edgy." On July 30, Owl City released The Midsummer Station—Acoustic EP instead of a full album. The EP featured acoustic interpretations of the songs "Good Time," "Shooting Star," and "Gold," which were taken from his latest studio album. "Hey Anna" and "I Hope You Think of Me" were also included in the EP, which included two previously unreleased B-side tracks: "Hey Anna" and "I Hope You Think of Me."

In the meantime, Young appeared on several songs for animated films and television commercials. On March 4, the song "Shine Your Way," starring Young and Yuna, was released on iTunes from the soundtrack to The Croods. In May 2013, Owl City completed a 90-second jingle for Oreo's "Wonderful" commercial. It was announced in June that Owl City would be featured on The Smurfs 2: Music From and Inspired by Soundtrack. In the soundtrack album, the track "Live It Up" was released. On October 22, Owl City released the single "Light of Christmas" starring TobyMac. The song was created for the 2013 VeggieTales Christmas film Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas.

"Beautiful Times," a violinist Lindsey Stirling song, was released on April 8. Young said he wanted to release a "series of EPs" in 2014 rather than a larger one, but he later considered and announced that a full studio album would be released in 2014. Young revealed in June that the first extended play would be named Ultraviolet, and that it would be announced on June 27. The "Beautiful Times" music video premiered on Rolling Stone's website the day before.

"Listen to What the Man Said" was one of Owl City's tribute album to Paul McCartney.

On June 29, 2015, Hanson was the subject of an animated film for "Unbelievable" in which he appears.

Young revealed on December 18, 2015, that he would concentrate on "Adam Young Scores," a new venture. He produced and published a score based on a topic of his choice during each month of 2016, something he had wanted to do for a long time. The first score, which is based on the Apollo 11 mission, was announced on Young's "Adam Young Scores" website on February 1, 2016. On the first day of each month of 2016, there was ten more scores. Each song, ten scores, were all based on historical events that affected Adam Young in some manner during his entire career as a musician and personal lifetime.

On November 24, 2016, Owl City released "Humbug," a new Christmas song that also came with a music video. "Not All Heroes Wear Capes" was released by Owl City as an individual song on the album without an album on June 15, 2017. Young revealed on October 30, 2017, on his social media pages, that he would be releasing Cinematic, an 18-track album, ahead of a launch date of June 1, 2018. Each song has three alternative versions on the album, including the Cinematic Album.

During the eight months from October to June, three EPs, which he has dubbed Reels, will be released, each with three songs. "The amazing people he has encountered and the destinations he has visited" inspired this collection, according to him. "All My Friends," the album's second single, was released on November 3. Owl City unveiled Reel 1, the first of its kind, on December 1, 2017. "Lucid Dream," an album track, was released on January 12, 2018. On January 1, 2021, and "All Star" by Smash Mouth, Owl City unveiled a remix of "Jesus Freak" by DC Talk on January 1, 2021 and 2022.

Owl City first posted the word "I'm back" on social media in June 2022. Since then, he has been leading his followers on a journey to find clues about his return with cryptic clues and a special website, with a countdown that began on September 16, 2022.

Armin van Buuren and Gareth Emery's album "Forever and Always" was released on August 12, 2022.

Owl City's YouTube channel biography claims that the 2023 album would be titled as "...a remarkably inventive body of work revealing his deep devotion to creativity's unethical mystery."
