Club career

Maher scored a goal on his debut in AZ during a 2010–11 UEFA Europa League match against FC BATE Borisov. He was the youngest player to score a goal in the Europa League and UEFA Cup. When AZ defeated PSV Eindhoven 2–1 in the 2013 KNVB Cup Final, they scored the first goal on the field.

Adam Maher migrated to PSV for a €6.5 million fee on July 1, 2013. He was one of five players to sign and he had been on a five-year deal.

Maher played for Arizona during the 2018/2019 season before joining FC Utrecht in the summer of 2019.

FC Utrecht reported the transfer of Maher to Damac FC on July 11, 2022.

International career

Maher was a member of the Netherlands squad for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Adam Maher was called to the Dutch team's preselection by Bert van Marwijk in February 2012. He was listed on the provisional list of 36 players for the Euro 2012 tournament on May 7, 2012, as one of nine uncapped players to be selected by Netherlands manager Bert van Marwijk as part of the preliminary team, but he did not make the final cut. In a friendly match against Bayern Munich, he made his Netherlands debut. Maher won his first official cap under new coach Louis van Gaal in a friendly match against Belgium on August 15th.
