Achraf Lazaar (born 22 January 1992) is a Moroccan international footballer who plays as a left midfielder or left back in Italy for Cosenza on loan from Newcastle United.
Club career
Lazaar, a born in Casablanca, moved to Italy with his parents in 2003. At the age of fifteen, he began his football career with Varese's youth team. In 2012, he made his senior debut with the team in Serie B, and he quickly established himself as one of the team's most intriguing prospects.
He was signed by the top of Serie B Palermo in January 2014, on loan, with the option to make the transfer permanent by the end of the season. Lazaar came out of the undercover to the more experienced Fabio Daprelà, gaining a starting spot as a result of his outstanding results. He was later signed by Palermo and announced as part of the club's 2014–15 roster.
Lazaar joined Newcastle United on a five-year contract on August 28, 2016. On September 20, 2016, he made his EFL Cup debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers. On October 15, 2016, he made his league debut when he took the field against Brentford as a 72nd-minute replacement. On August 31, 2017, Lazaar returned to Italy on a loan to Benevento. Lazaar joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the season on January 31.
He joined Cosenza, an Italian Serie B club, on loan from September 2nd.
On the 4th of February 2021, Lazaar and Newcastle United mutually agreed to end his employment.
On February 20, 2021, Lazaar signed for Watford on a contract that would run until the end of the season, with the option to extend a further year. Following the expiration of his deal, he left Watford at the end of the 2020-21 season. Following his release from Watford, Lazaar went on trial with Reading in July 2021.
He joined Portimonense in Portugal on a two-year contract on August 26th, 2021.
International career
Having been born in Morocco, Lazaar is eligible to play for Morocco from birth, but Italy has been ineligible to play for Italy from 2015, despite being raised there. Since being a citizen of Italy since April 2015, he has been a citizen since 2015. He never said he had never stated a strong preference for Morocco or Italy, but instead announced that he would play for the first international team with a genuine desire in calling him up. Palermo's outstanding Serie B results intracted the Moroccan national team, who called him up for a friendly match against Mozambique on May 23. He won 4–0, his first senior international appearance.
